  • After testing we get to embark on another fitness journey and dive into winter training! I have a little chat about what makes winter training a little different to normal. Hopefully throughout the winter I can talk about what gets me through!

Hi, i was wondering if you could show more of the core exercises you use at the club. And I was wondering if you have ever heard of Faroese rowing? Great video as always.

Great video, it's really interesting to learn about the training and prep that goes in behind the scenes. More indoor rowing videos would be great. I am a newbie to rowing - indoor only for now, rapidly getting hooked and keen to learn good technique and effective workouts rather than to just row away ineffectively for a set time.

One today for you! I am trying to do more videos related to the machine. It's just finding the time!

Can you do a video about imbalances due to rowing a specific side? Perhaps get some guys from both sides in discussion? Thanks!

Yeah, I think that's good advice. Most athletes probably won't benefit from maxing the training over the winter only to run out of steam come the Springtime. Seems that during this period a lot of programmes put the emphasis on steady low-intensity training (eg. 90% of the distance) with a much smaller amount (maybe 10%) at AT and above.
The way it was explained to me was that during the low intensity work you are aiming to improve the aerobic function of muscles, maybe grow more capillaries between the fibres and also make chemical changes in the muscle cells. These changes occur slowly, so you need to do the mileage. But on the plus side, as long as reasonable force is there in the stroke, there's no need to get the heart rate up.
The cardiovascular system needs high intensity to force adaptations like increasing lung volume and ventricle pumping ability, but it adapts relatively quickly so there's no need to do so much. It is also very tiring, so most athletes can't do high volume anyway.

Cam… You mention often in your videos that keeping the easy sessions easy and the hard sessions hard is important. Curious, in winter training how often do you do hard sessions?

    • @CameronBuchan
      @CameronBuchan  4 года назад

Grwat question. Out of the roughly, 16-20 sessions/week there will be roughly 2-3 high intensity sessions!

What is ur 5k record and 2k record?

    • @CameronBuchan

2k has been done in the channel, last November trials. My 5k was pre vlogs which is quicker than I've done on the channel!

Anyone notice how inaccurate the captions are, Cameron says “erg” and caption says “air” and “egg”

Nice idea but why not make your videos more engaging and concise than predominantly talking into the camera? Like 'Top 5 strength exercises' or 'my favourite warm-up routine before a 2k' or 'best stretch routine' etc with a walkthrough. See Ben Parkes most viewed videos for inspiration. Your view count will rise massively.

      John Mount disagree
Video format is fine as is. We’re not here for click bait warm up vids

@@joequinnrules I agree with you Joe. But for Cam, as it is interesting for him to gain new followers, it might make sense to try John's drafts out! I either appreciate, if Cam try new stuff. I think it is also a good support from each other in the #YAMSQUAD to give good hints :)

Hey John let's connect! Some really good ideas. As you can see from the other comments, currently people enjoy the current format although there can always be room for a mix. One of the biggest reasons the videos are how they are is to reduce the amount of time actually spent filming. Rowing comes first then filming and editing.
