I was working in college radio when I first came across Curve and they quickly became one of my favorite bands. In fact, "Coast Is Clear" used to be our sign-off song every night for several years. Cuckoo is probably my favorite album, but barely winning that as I love them all. "Unreadable Communication" is a song I love playing while driving down the highway at night, like something out of an action movie...
A big shout out to you to give Curve their due. They are often overlooked in so many of the Shoegaze documentaries. Another of my favorite acts of the time (The Boo Radleys) also gets overlooked. Other bands seem to get all the love nowadays and I wonder why groups like these are so overlooked. I do regard them as part of the shoegaze scene although they had a unique sound which made them a little of an uncomfortable fit. I agree with your analysis of the first two albums being the best but to me Doppleganger really wins out. I Think side 2 of Cuckoo is also great - I prefer their dreamy stuff over the darker material. My favorite track of theirs is Recovery from their third album which I agree is pretty inconsistent. I would rate gift higher than you but overall I am glad to see this review here. Keep it up and please do more
I mostly agree with your evaluations. I do think that "come clean" and "beyond reach" specifically are much better than you said. I do think that "signals and alibis" is one of their best songs ever. BTW, where is "open day at the hate fest"?
Thanks for listening! Normally on these videos I stick to just studio albums but I included pubic fruit just because of its popularity within the community so I made an exception for that 1 specific compilation but didn’t include the others.
I don’t think any “shoegaze” band really likes the label “shoegaze” because it’s a term coined by the music press and for the most part the music press has not treated these bands very well.

As a fan from back in the 90s, Curve just rule 🖤
One of my favorite bands. I think you nailed it, I don't disagree with any of your ratings -- great commentary on each song. Thank you.

I didn't know They New Adventures of Curve was ever officially released. What about Open Day at the The Fest?
