Slowdive is very, very similar to their primary influence, Cocteau Twins in that, if you only listen to the albums, you've missed at least a third of the picture. Their initial three ep's dwarf all of their albums other than (of course) Souvlaki for quality. Those ten tracks are the foundation of their catalog. And then there's what we have of the 40 rejected Souvlaki demos, not to mention their other non-album material.
S-tier absolutely the initial three ep's and Souvlaki (which, great as it is, would be a far better album if "Altogether" were replaced with nearly anything from the demos, and if this version of "Melon Yellow" bore a many times closer resemblance to their much more sturm-and-drangy-y live versions of the same song).
    A-tier - the Souvlaki demos
B-tier - Slowdive, Just for a Day, Pygmalion, Everything is Alive, the "Some Velvet Morning" cover. Yes, all four of the non-Souvlaki albums. Very hard to rank them. They abandoned their original shoegaze style just as Souvlaki was being released (long after it was recorded) and never completely returned to it. The initial ep's through Souvlaki is their true canon, and as good as their later and reunion stuff is, that original canon is why people have been lined up to see them for the past ten years, 100% and final answer for the million. That amazing reverb-guitar bliss idiom is their deathless contribution to music.
    C-tier - the Pygmalion demos, assorted b-sides
D-tier - Outside Your Room, the In Mind ep.

My favorite band, lol. Great list.
    Mine would look like:
    S - Slowdive, Pygmalion, Souvlaki
A - everything is alive, Just For A Day
I was happy when you put their self-titled in S tier, it's always been my favorite. I feel like souvlaki is a better record overall, but the best tracks on ST are better than the best tracks on Souvlaki, if that's makes sense lol. (Sugar for the Pill, Don't Know Why, No Longer Making Time, Go Get It) No Longer Making Time being my absolute favorite track from them.
Wasn't too into Pygmalion at first because of how different it is from the rest, but it's probably the most any album has grown on me. Amazing

@@MikeGodetteMusic After listening to this album many times, my heart has not opened for him. I do not know why, I feel cold.

Great list and I agree with everything except I feel the new album is flawed for different reasons. I think Chain to a cloud is the high point of that album and is the only masterwork on that record
