The chaincase cover where the bulge sticks out is where the tensioner was. Models came in Sachs Engine was standard 15HP $695, LLoyd Engine Delux 22HP $895 and Kohler Engine 399 Super 24 HP $1095. Sold in Woolco (Woolworth) Department Stores. So you have the middle model with 22 HP LLoyd engine. Use a steering wheel puller to take the lower sprocket off.
Vice Grip Garage made a windshield for an older snowmobile and it came out pretty nice. I think he made it out of some blue Plexi-glass. You could take a look at what he did and probably do something similar.
That looks like a Tillotson carburettor, parts and gasket kits still readily available 👍👍🏴
Unless I missed it, that machine was built in Quebec by Sno-Prince later owned by Lionel. They built several different brands but were basically a Sno Prince with different decals and minor detail differences. As for the chain tensioner, some older snowmobiles had an eccentric upper chaincase bearing. Check there too. And most snowmobile aftermarket parts suppliers have windshield material you can cut easily to make a new one.
I have a sno prince and i can see tons of similarities between them because they were both made by that lionel company
You don’t need a puller for that. If you remove the grub/set screw, you can insert a couple of bolts into the two threaded holes and that will push back on the sprocket to remove it. I do this at work all the time. Hope this helps!!!
I will try it, thanks!

Yes there's suppose to be a tensioner where you pointed to. Some had a wheeled tensioner and some just had a curved slide tensioner. When the Bearing went out the chain slop most likely destroyed the tensioner.
Haven't heard of that brand. Back in the early 70s, there were about 120 different brands of sleds. By 1987, they were down to four, and next year one of these is also ending.
Yeah, it sucks Yamaha is stopping it's sleds in 2025
Joe, I am pretty sure you can make a new and better windshield with a piece of unbreakable polycarbonate sheet like Lexan, that can be shaped with a hot air gun. Hope this tip makes you feel less sad.
Can't believe how much compression it has, crazy!!! Beast!
Yeah 175 is wild
Thank you for your consistant videos! I hope you read this in time because you tightened down the upper sprocket with the an impact gun. THERE ARE TAPERED ROLLER BEARINGS THERE. Adjust the castle nut as you would a wheel bearing! Another disaster awaits if you don't.
You never cease to amaze me getting things running.
Joe you can buy a universal windshield kit and cut it to your own shape, just reference that brochure you got with it for approximate shape and height. I've been out of it for a few years but companies like Dennis Kirk, shade tree sell them.
Nice seeing some of the old sleds I grew up with, here in Michigan we had a blast with those old sleds as a young kid it felt like we were going 100 mph but we were only doing 35-40mph.
Lol, I'm from Michigan as well!!
finger nail file to clean up those points bud. works great. I use to do it all the time!
Love your stuff as always! Looking forward to see how this one turns out. Hope things are well in your world brother.
I really appreciate this video Brother👊🏻!!! I needed this.
I’ve Been home since Wednesday lastweek cause I had to put my BFF Pug down Thurs and then got crazy sick from digging the hole for 4hrs in the cold and rain. I freaking miss my boy.
I’m so sorry for your loss… Joe & Vinnie certainly bring some joy, don’t they?!
@@nigelcox7477 Thank u. Ya Vinny is a Gem forsure.
Vinny knew, he could smell the burnt bearing.
They have the windshield on Amazon 😅
Im ready to see you build a mini bike. There's some vids out there but nobody would do it better than you. I bought one for $200 a few weeks ago and it's a blast
You are correct there is a chain tensioner missing. One off an old Arctic Cat Lynx will work if you drill out the guide rivets and turn the arch the other way. I hope that helps you
Definitely a cool piece. Love the channel Joe., never know what your coming home with!
I love it that thing has a perfect face on it kind of reminds me of a rupp in their early ones actually had cooling bar which was the front bar on them and it got hot and you can warm your hands😊 one of the very early liquid cooled snowmobiles
Love the level of skill and knowledge you show in your videos. Just one thing, the sandpaper you use to clean grounds and points is called Emery Cloth. Used for metal…
Another awesome video. Pro tip, use a small finger nail file ( the tiny foam type) to sand the points. Always carried one in my tool box for my VS sandrail.
The super cheap thin ones at the dollar store work great!
We used to keep a small piece of fine sandpaper in our toolbags when we still had vehicles with points. Fold it in half and slide it into the points gap. The biggest issue we had was bad quality condensors.
You sir are a MACHINE, please tell me you have help with editing, pumping out so many videos, seems like more than 1 a week.... LOVE THIS CHANNEL!
Ditto, I like the explanatory nature, and the focus not on him but on the project. At its core, the basics, going through a 120cc engine (spark, fuel, compression) not unlike going through a 350ci or 472ci
hes making a living doing it,so he has to get them out!!!did you see the house he bought?more payments means more videos!!!2,3,4 a week he needs to do
@@yeahright302 More videos, more subs, more views, more RUclips $$$
Reminds me of the 1960s Moto Ski my dad bought for me to ride when I was a kid. I broke the windshield riding around a trail barrier. Got grounded from riding for a week!
Great project on a classic, and good timing as there is a chill in the air (Minnesota) and a winter storm is brewing for this weekend.
Sucks about the windshield but if it didn't break on the highway it would have on your first test ride
Maybe but the original added to the machine in a way that an aftermarket one from China isn't going to bring back.
That was his point being annoyed for breaking it.
The plastic of the windscreen was petrified. It was going to shatter soon, no matter what you did. You can take the dimensions and look for a replacement. Don't let it bother you.
I was thinking the same thing but as for finding a replacement it would be better off taking the dimensions and going to a place that can form the plastic to make a brand new one
@@186scott He can do it himself. There's quite a lot of info online. He's a clever guy, I'm sure he'll get it sorted.
Not sure l believe that it broke because it was 'on the highway' More like a mishandled loading.
@@bananabrooks3836 i believe it chances are it wasn't the wind from how fast he was going but more likely something flicked up hit it and it broke
@@186scott Fair comment.
Honestly Joe, how can you NOT clean the exposed body of the carburetor?
Unfortunate about the wind screen.😢
Class! What a sweet machine, it's got a friendly face if you know what I mean. I absolutely love your content dude, it takes me back to days of smelling of petrol, burnt 2 stroke oil, and hands that were impossible to get clean! You've inspired me to dust off my tools and start looking for a project. I'm sure you've inspired others. Keep up the great work brother.
Wow, what a classic, great project
You should be able to find a similar windshield from another make that can be cut to fit the metal trim. They newer plastic is a lot less brittle and can be bent to fit the trim.
That old manual is super cool
Hey man, you should pick up a couple cans of fogging spray for outboard engines. It's excellent for engines that have been sitting a long time and the best part is the end of the tube it fogs in all directions so everything gets lubricated.
Wouldn't be hard to make another windscreen. This looks like something out of the 60s. I mean I had my first snowmobile ride in 66 in northern Canada and there were machines more modern looking and more sophisticated than this. Mid 60s OMC Snow Cruisers and Evinrude's come to mind. Pretty damned nice shape though. :)
Vinnie has good dog sense, he is a master.
For $400 I still think you did well, I'm sure you will get it working great. Thanks for the videos!
Such a great pitch to the sound of that engine plus the face of the machine… reminds me of the Crazy Frog!!
That title defines my life: "sat 40 years after losing his spark" 😂
Might have to upgrade to a enclosed trailer. Beautiful sled still.
An enclosed trailer would be a good upgrade especially for your winters.
You can contact Koronis Parts in Paynesville, MN and I'm almost certain that they'd still make a windshield for you...they've been making replacement parts for vintage sleds since they were new and still have all of the dies and forms for them...if they can't help, then just get a windshield from a similar year Herters Husky, as they look like nearly identical body/windshield shapes...
If the bearing housing cant be fixed I would either make a weld or bolt in part , it will be stronger than trying to weld the bearing housing back together and machine it as it is cast aluminium so prone to breaking again.
The engine sounds great just needs a diaphragm /gasget kit for the carb and it should run spot on.
Another great find and rescue 👍
Lexan for the windshield and white strip , paint the white on the back side of the strip . I did that on my 70 Snowcruiser , It came out minty .
Oh man! An old Bolens Diablo Rouge sitting in the background
Man are you busy all the time bro! I keep seeing your uploads! I know we would make great best friends with all the wrenching you do!!! 😂 Keep up the good work!!!
Be sure to remove the broken wind screen before you ride it! Major safety concern! Maybe take it to a lexan mold shop and have a custom one made if you cannot find an oem one. 🤷🏻♂️😎
There is actually a kit that molds plexiglass perfectly. Joe has the most important part of the windshield, and with his skills, Joe can reproduce the windshield himself.
Time for Jade' s toothbrush and nail file😂😅😊
@@allan9603yea Right
@@ravioli9728, OK run outside and play now..
@@allan9603 ok time for you to go suck up to joe
Did you know when ski mobiles were first invented it was not for pleasure or fun. Customizing an glorify that relic. And you have that Big field. I think we would like to see. What can take you from a to b the fastest. It would make it more fun for me to watch at the end of your videos. Keep up the good work. We like them all..
Nice work getting the old beast going! Next time when a chain has been sitting for a long time, soak it in a jug of oil overnight. It will loosen the chain up and help with stretching.
Glad to see you're starting to get more sleds I got some four sale if you want to come to up Michigan
Scott from California. You can make your own windshield by heating up lexan! Make a pattern out of non corrigated cardboard.
This should be interesting. I pray all your knowledge and effort pays off. It would be a terrific ride once completed. Finding parts might be tough. I believe your time will be rewarded with success..
That's too bad about the windshield. I wonder if you might be able to find another one from another older snowmobile or a motorcycle fairing that might work. It's cool you are preserving a well-made machine.
Toiletson carb kits available at any SkiDoo dealer, about 10 bucks. Crank seal on clutch side needs replacing by you description of your plugs. Have fun
Cool bit of history
You can easily make a windshield. Use what's left for a template for that radius. Diamond tipped 4.5 " blade and polycarbonate . Good luck.
I had mentioned in another video of yours about making your own windshield out of plexiglass. I had no previous experience working with plexiglass but found it quite easy to work with using a heat gun and torch you might you tube it im sure someone has a tutorial on plexi.
definitely could make a new wind scree...bend it with a heat gun...just follow the shape of the trim mold...nice score...great channel...learned a ton from you.
I have another tip for you your chrome on the snowmobile to safely remove the rust and polish try using a SOS pad you will be amazed at the results it makes it look like new.
You could make a new windscreen for that, using a piece of polycarbonate, and a heat gun to shape it. use what's left of the old screen, as a template to drill the mounting holes.
Cool sled that one. super rare
Your channel is my favorite to watch on youtube! You should be able to find the right flexible plexiglass and make your own windshield.
Love the channel and would love to see some Artic Cats on here maybe 90s to early 2000s they absolutely rip there cheap sleds easy to work on and would make great content.
Oh boy the Lloyd 399. The engine that was part of Ski Daddlers down fall. Engine fires and seizures cost them thousands. Jet it rich and use premium synthetic in the fuel friend, keep it cool and no running on hot days. You might make out ok. It’s good to preserve the odd sleds.
Back in the old days a dollar bill came in handy for cleaning “points “
I still use them to clean flame sensors on gas furnaces 😁🙃
He the smart one showed up after the hard work is done 😃
You can cut and bend polycarbonate plastic sheet. Brand name in those days was Perspex. Bend using a heat gun. Trim using a hand saw.
Cute, it looks like a Playskol My First Sled
I am sure you can find a carb kit online. There are many vintage sleds out there
I drove a similar one when I was a kid , called a scorpion was so fun and tuff as nails
A good tip for cleaning plugs& points inside the flywheel is to use a women's nail sanding stick.there the perfect grade of sand paper & the right shape to access the points..my Mrs can't understand where hers keep disappearing to..😂👍
great way to stretch the end of lines to fit over a nipple. Get a small set of needle nose pliers, close them and insert it into the hose and spread the pliers. Put a small amount of oil inside the hose. The hose will slowly shrink back to the original diameter but will give you time to insert the nipple.
Lexan from Lowe’s or Home Depot and you can make your own replacement windshield lexan is very tough but flexible and workable good luck with the machine!!
Those were made in Québec, Canada and sold for about 1000$. It has a 400 cc Lloyd engine producing 22 hp.
Fortunately for you. Trail King sells replacement wind shields( about $70)
The add for it is still on Facebook. You could probably get the pictures and have a windshield made for it.
Joe, doesn’t the snow mobile manual show a parts breakdown on the back cover? You showed us every page except that one. Rich in California
I thought I saw a pic of that chain drive on the manual when you were checking it out? Don’t recall seeing a tension unit in the pic.
Most of old Snowmobiles had an eccentric on the top Bearing to tension the Chain' take a look at your chain case and you will see if your sled has this.
That's why snowmobile trailers have a ram deflector
The man with a bunch of these sleds (possibly a bunch of parts too) is Bernard Blain of Michigan. Feel free to reach out for more info
That carb looks like it is supplied with tillotson diaphragms. I don't recognize the pattern of the casting, but the diaphragms are the same pattern as old 2100 Homelite chain saw carb diaphragms.
NOOOO! THE WINDSHIELD!!!!!!😢
Suggestion...spray the carb, wd before taking apart ?
Brilliant video Joe watching from Edinburgh Scotland UK 🇬🇧 👏
It’s that time of the year, changed to snowmobiles!
Very nice video. Thanks for sharing.
Man you are really good at finding out what is wrong with things. Im sure you will get it going soon👍
Magneto produces ac and with addition of a diode in the circuit it produces half wave dc for lights and charging, many times with a high revving engine and lack of a dc regulator you'll have those dummy load resistors, as you have by the headlight, to absorb overvoltage and keep your headlights from burning out.
You are lucky. You have a very supportive fan base that is very informative. Try a finger nail board for cleaning points. They work great. Jade has some im su re.
Polycarb plastic replacement screen easy enough to manufacture with a template and router trimmer tool. Better than acrylic. Tougher.
That light switch look just like the one one my 68 cobia boat
That looks like 1/8 smoke plexiglass. You could make a template and make your own. Warm it with a heat gun and curve the plastic.
What ended up happening to the 400ex turbo build?
Where do you get those bottles that you had the gas in? Another great video.
Are you sure that’s not for the electric start option where the starter would mount?
Nice, that sled reminds me, of the movie sno ball express, old movie, just a great hilarious movie, if can get ya hands on it to watch.
The puller i belive is a thick peace of steel with center threaded hole and two sloted holes on either side to put bolts into the sproket then thw center bolt has a little point on it to line up on the shaft
I hadf a 1968 Sno Prince and a 1970 also, that is the twin cylinder Lloyds engine.
