I prefer apache office over libre office, might want to check it out. Also i keep using VLC because it's handy to look for subtitles/srt files, when you want to watch foreign movies, although i speak 6 languages.
Thank you, great to know the little details are appreciated by viewers :D. It's annoying to do, but I think it helps viewers find what they're looking for in the video quickly and gain value from it better. Good to see your comment once again an hopefully some of the apps can come in use, I tried to focus on the lesser known ones 🙂
I like watching this channel videos because this person shows a lot of sketches on paper and it is very pleasing to look compared to computer generated graphics.
Really appreciate that! They take quite a bit of time to do but I think it definitely keeps things engaging and is something unique to bring to videos :D
Hey i would actually love it if you could make a video on the Zen browser! Been loving it since the past 5 months and i'd be glad if you could cover up on its capabilities! Love your videos regardless!
Thank you and glad to hear the videos are useful. :) No worries, I'm working on it as it was also highly requested on my Arc browser review video, it's a great vertical tabs based browser and the best choice for those looking for something like arc on Windows.
Thank you and no worries! Glad it was useful. Don't worry I have a dedicated video on Zen in the works, this was just a quick mention ;) Good to see your comments once again 👍
This type of videos bring me such joy and also make me feel like a huge nerd... I love it. My question is if I can uninstall ALL of the pre-installed apps you mention, or I'll have some hanging around. Having two apps that do the same function kinda tickles my OCD. Thank you
No worries! Glad the video was valuable :) A lot of the default apps that I refer to are system apps so unfortunately I don't think that you can uninstall them however...
Thanks I have been searching for vlc replacement but I just can't find it, This video really helps and zen is a great browser using it for months waiting for what it will become in the future and as always I love videos keep up the good work bro you are so underrated
Ah thanks! No worries, glad I could help out and offer some valuable suggestions. I plan to make a Zen browser video sometime so stay tuned. Good to see your comment once again 🙂
You are helping us more I can't find any other good channel who cares for windows like everyone wants mac apps but really good channel with great effort finding good apps@Productive_Tech
Thanks for the kind words, it means a lot honestly 🙂😅. Yh I was in the same boat, a lot of Mac videos and the windows ones are mediocre at best mentioning the common ones that people likely have installed already, so it's good to know I am helping people out there. 👍
I like how you reply to almost every comment. Please keep doing that when you become a big youtuber, though I know that it would not be easy once you have become big.
People spend time out of their day to write a comment regardless of what it is, so Yh, I do reply to all especially while it’s manageable. I will try my best in the future as things naturally grow/increase 👍🙏
This is a good list. Thanks for sharing. I think Only Office is the only one you missed as Libre Office has lots of compatibility issues with MS Office.
Thanks! Yep that's fair and in hindsight I would probably agree with you as I wasn't aware of only office at the time, it seems to have a much more modern design. Thanks for the suggestion 👍
7:45 I am pretty sure that iceberg graphic is upside down 🤔🤔🤔. PDF gear is a solid program. By the way, the default PDF viewer in windows 11 is edge. Microsoft licences the Adobe PDF reader program and shoves it in Edge
Nah if you look at the iceberg in the video there are lines going horizontally on the underwater part indicating water flow so I think its the right way (Well this is the way it was like from the source so just went with it XD). Yh I could of been a bit clearer as you are right Edge is the default when opening PDFs in windows but it's a browser as opposed to an app just for PDFs for example. Interesting to know about the licencing and makes sense cause when you open a PDF in edge it gives you an option to "Edit in Acrobat" which it probably part of the deal to have that button there. Thanks for the comment once again. 👍
8:04 Windows does actually have a preview application that works very similarly to mac its called quick look in the Microsoft store. Once installed just press the spacebar on any file.
Yep, I've mentioned it in various videos occasionally and prefer it over the power toys tweak cause this way you only press one button. I mentioned it specifically in this video on adding macOS features to windows if you're interested :) ruclips.net/video/yUjZntoJKNo/видео.html
I'm old school.. These are mandatory apps for whatever Windows I'm using : Image viewer = Irfan View Video player = MPC Audio player = Winamp or QMMP (with Winamp skin)
Appreciate the suggestions, maybe it could be an interesting video idea to show more old school applications that prioritise functionality over anything else as I could definitely see a large amount of people gaining value from that...
zen browser is fantastic! also I've tried files but it felt laggy and slow in comparison to the file explorer (especially when dragging the window around on a high refresh rate monitor) so I'm waiting for 'file pilot' to be released.
That's fair, that is the main weakness of the files app really. File Pilot looks absolutely incredible! However, I feel that it wont be free 😢 Thanks for the suggestion though. 👍
I did do a video on the Arc browser not too long ago and the Zen browser is in the works too. Who knows, this might become a series at some point. Let's see, I think I might make one on various browsers but I think that is quite a while out and would be good to test them all individually over time.
Best on screen calculator I've and free, is HP 10bII+, full blown business/finance calculator, much quicker than starting up Excel and setting various formulas. With so many business people using computers I'm amazed that there are not more options for on screen business calculators (or maybe everyone uses their HP/Casio/Sharp pocket calculator).
I think that's it really. Emulators are great to a degree but then it becomes easier instead to use the physical device instead. I think there's a balance on how far these calculators can go before falling into this grey area. Personally for me, the 2 apps I mentioned provided this balance well as they offer something different to physical layouts but also are just as powerful. Depends what works for you really but appreciate the suggestion.
Will add it to my list, hadn't really thought about that idea before :D I know both of the ones that you suggested are good but I think 7 Zip supports more formats, might be a little bit slower but is free. So maybe that would be my recommendation. 🙂
SUGGESTIONS: - 1. Best sites/apps for coding. 2. Apps with better performance than Windows defaults (e.g., faster search with Everything app ). 3. Quality of life apps.
is there any application that locks the explorer at a particular folder such that if anyone tries to close the explorer interface on clicking x button he/she will need to enter the password to close it.
Nope its a fair question 🙂My laptop is the XPS 15 9510, I've been using it for around 3 and a half years at this point and have done a full review video on this link if you want to check it out :D ruclips.net/video/j-g7ng-chqA/видео.html
Edge is great, provided you can tailor it to your needs, remove any bloat and are ok with all the Microsoft stuff. It does provide the best of both worlds in regards to the tab format as well allowing you to have vertical and horizontal tabs
And keyboard shortcuts too, however I don't think it can functionally match Qalculate and Speed Crunch are able to offer. It does however have the better design obviously being designed by Microsoft and having the fluent design.
It’s the Dell XPS 15 9510 :) I did a full review video on it here after using it for around 3 and a half years if you want to check it out on this link ruclips.net/video/j-g7ng-chqA/видео.htmlsi=kwMnGzCnG4f80ubu
To be honest I didn't even realise that was a thing admittedly until now. Seems like some windows apps do have hidden features up their sleeve. Might be worth a video to deep dive into some...
Tbh I don't think it is all too bad, it is definitely old in regards to the way that it operates but purely from a design perspective especially with the dark mode its quite passable imo. Could be better but yh
I agree, Photo viewing, video playback, browsers, file explorers, calculators, PDF readers etc all of which mentioned can indeed be done by the the default applications. However there are apps that imo are better for example either in the UI/design or some extra functionality. It won't be to everyone preference but is interesting nevertheless as "potential" replacements for some. In regards to only covering surface level details, maybe this is something that I can look into in future videos but I don't really want to make a 10 apps list that much longer in time really, it's a balance
VLC still is a very decent option no question about it, just thought I would share a more modern alternative :). Though if you haven't seen it I'd recommend checking out a VLC video I did not too long ago which might be of interest ruclips.net/video/GmcWHqInKnY/видео.html
Fair point, I think it will be a while before you see the browser on mobile platforms (including iOS) as it is an open source project that is still in beta currently. Let's see
Thanks and glad you enjoyed the video! To be honest at the moment I'm quite stretched for time and have already had a few messages asking for collaboration / sponsorship but unfortunately I just don't have the bandwidth at the moment. (Hence I haven't left any contact details in the channel about page - for now). I do think this will change though as the year progresses. In regards to sponsorships specifically, I don't really plan to do a dedicated full sponsored video as I believe this is not in the interest of my audience/viewers, however partial video integration is definitely something that I would look into. Please do keep an eye on the channel about section as this is where I will place any contact details once I am in a position to undertake such opportunities. Hope you understand 🙏
@Productive_Tech Damn, thank you for taking the time to send such a detailed response. I very much understand and will keep an eye out. Thanks once again 💙
Thanks for the concern and is something I am considering. They definitely take me a while to do but I think it adds a unique element to the videos and people seem to enjoy them too. Not sure if I can transition to more of a white board style over time but will have to see. With it being physical I feel it breaks up the video and if I was to make them more digital then I think things just blend into the screen recordings from that perspective. Plus there are loads of channels out there that make digital graphics so this it also an aspect to stand out to a degree. Especially in the tech field. 👍
what's the point of going through the trouble of seeking out and switching to alternatives if there's nothing stopping you from switching to linux? this is ridiculous.
Most apps that most people use on a daily basis don’t work on Linux or are incompatible. Not to mention the whole issue with hardware devices that don’t play nicely when you already have things set up. If it works for one’s setup and workflow then that’s great but many people are simply unable to switch due to friction. This way you get the best of both worlds.
Hmmmm, maybe I'm not knowledgeable enough to speak on behalf of Linux maybe so I do apologise there if there is some confusion. While I agree many of the software's listed in this video are also available on Linux and maybe even being available on MacOS as well I speak from a windows 11 perspective in this video and reviewing the apps regarding their UI and how they work on windows specifically. Hence the titling of the video to be "Windows 11" despite the apps not being "exclusive" to windows. In terms of Linux, while many applications are now being supported on Linux and the very nature of the way Linux seems to be built meaning there is a work around some way or another to get even those apps tat would be considered "unsupported" natively, it isn't an ideal solution. Especially for someone to just download and get on with their work without a bit of prior technical knowledge to get things dialled in imho. This is why I used the word "friction" in my original response. I'm referring to apps like MS Office, SolidWorks, Ansys, certain programs like that is what I refer to in regards to the difficulty in some workflows switching and this is aside any sort of learning curves that might be present. Again I have never tried Linux and is something that I intend to do sometime. Hope that helps to clear up the confusion I welcome all viewers Linux Mac Win Android whatever really. I just find the response "just switch to Linux" doesn't always check out as it really depends on the workflow of the user.
That's fair and maybe krita is more of a direct alternative being more for digital painting but I think it depends on ones use case. Thanks for the suggestion 🙂
To be honest, I do have alot of commitments these days and have already had a few people/sponsors reach out but I am honestly so stretched for time right now while retaining a 1 per week upload schedule (hence I haven't got any contact details in the channel about page). Hopefully this will change as the year progresses but I will let you know if so, best bet is to keep an eye out on the about page of the channel for contact links. Hope you understand 🙏
Yes all are free, if you go onto the image glass website there is an option for the classic installer where you can get it for free. It is open source, I hope that helps 👍
i have tried the zen browser, just uninstalled it(my laptop lagged and often hanged). I wish i could keep using it, it was awesome with some of the mods like colorful search bar. (I am on a 10 year old system). Btw, could you give a link to your wallpaper, I cannot find it on unsplash
I haven't heard of too many performance issues with Zen, to be honest so it might be a local issue with your system like you mentioned. Though it is still in alpha so it might change as things progress :). Here's the wallpaper, I think this is the one that you are referring to? unsplash.com/photos/an-aerial-view-of-a-forest-with-lots-of-trees-kY0CmRjGCNc
@Productive_Tech yeah, like I said, it's because of my hardware, it's too old and cannot handle even the animations. When I freshly only open the browser with only one tab, it runs smooth as butter. Thanks for the wallpaper btw 🙂
Will consider it and check it out. There are quite a few similar named products and admittedly I think I was confused in the research process. There's Libre office which is what I covered, Open office which is the older version of libre office and the one you mention is Only Office. I believe they are all open source. Wasn't aware of only office but does look pretty cool on first glance. Thanks for the suggestion
The only issue I have with this channel beside solid content and to-the-point address is that, you waste a lot of papers explaining your point, which is not at all justified, my humble request is that you please have a look at the environment cost of it and may be replace it with digital canvas to sketch and explain (if needed)...
Paper is recyclable and renewable; sure it uses lots of water in manufacture, but that's renewable too. Keep up the good work, and help avoid the environmental horror and child exploitation of mining for 'renewable' extraction machines (solar panels and wind turbines) and the ecological destruction wrought by the huge areas being devoted to wind and solar energy concentration factories, not to mention the vast amounts of copper, aluminum, steel and concrete needed for grid connections.
I will consider this going forward. I don't see it changing immediately but I might look at digital options (maybe apple pencil but I don't have that right now). From what I have gathered from other viewers the paper and drawing side of things seems to provide a unique element/perspective and I am not sure if this can be recreated/replicated with digital tools. In terms of cost to myself it's not an issue, not to mention the paper isn't of a super high quality (GSM) but I get the environmental argument
Oh and the last app which I forgot to mention is.... 🐧
Bro roasted all windows users
@@FPL_worm fr
There is nothing better than Edge & Chrome i prefer edge because it's chromium and Pc manager for Windows provides additional help for Microsoft Edge.
@@FPL_worm so??

Dude you are a gem! Amazing video as always. Keep rocking ❤
Superb efforts! I was looking for a more modern replacement for VLC! love screenbox. Oh and also thank you for covering zen.
Thanks Mate!
Thank you and no worries! Glad it was useful. Don't worry I have a dedicated video on Zen in the works, this was just a quick mention ;) Good to see your comments once again 👍
As usual, you nailed it man Keep it up 👍
Cheers buddy, thanks for your comment once again, appreciate that 😁
Amazing efforts in making and the editing of the video! Kudos to you man, great job!
Thank you so much! Happy to know my efforts are appreciated, they do take a lot of time to make but hopefully it is worthwhile! :D
@Productive_Tech I'm sure they do, it looks very clean and it really shows that you go an extra mile to make it more fun to watch.
Thanks! Your kind words mean a lot! :)
underrated channel, i swear
Thanks that means a lot! 😊

I like the paper graphics hehe, it adds personality.
I still simp for VLC tho, but I'll give the one you suggested a try
Thanks and no worries all are just suggestions :D
@Productive_Tech oh, absolutely. I'll try some of them.
regarding files, the default explorer supports tabs too.
Yes in windows 11 though as the app is also available for windows 10 this might prove more valuable there and hence the mention :)
Unique video..keep it up bro.

Very informative video.

Great recommendations!
I appreciate the efforts
Thank You!! Thanks for the comment once again 🙂
@Productive_Tech you're welcome❤
keep the good work up👍🏻
I'm old school.. These are mandatory apps for whatever Windows I'm using :
Image viewer = Irfan View
Video player = MPC
Audio player = Winamp or QMMP (with Winamp skin)
Brother I commented on the previous video about pdf gear app and you actually recommended that app in this video ❤❤❤
No worries! Yep, I read comments and take feedback/suggestions on board. 🙂
The kind of video I was looking for.
Glad I could help! 😁
3:16 can you make a detailed video about all browsers?
I did do a video on the Arc browser not too long ago and the Zen browser is in the works too. Who knows, this might become a series at some point. Let's see, I think I might make one on various browsers but I think that is quite a while out and would be good to test them all individually over time.

Another banger as
always
Cheers man, always appreciate the support 😊
Bro, make a video on the best archiver! I'm confused between 7-Zip and WinRAR. Which one should I go for?
Will add it to my list, hadn't really thought about that idea before :D I know both of the ones that you suggested are good but I think 7 Zip supports more formats, might be a little bit slower but is free. So maybe that would be my recommendation. 🙂
@Productive_Tech thank you
Good stuff!
Thanks once again! :)
My opinion:
Photo = XnView
Video = K-Lite Codec Pack
Browser = Floorp
Raster editor = Krita (after GIMP 3 release = GIMP)
Fair enough, decent suggestions, will check them out 🙂👍
SUGGESTIONS: -
1. Best sites/apps for coding.
2. Apps with better performance than Windows defaults (e.g., faster search with Everything app ).
3. Quality of life apps.
Thanks appreciate the suggestions, will definitely consider them :D
Hey mate thanks for this list 👍🏻👍🏻
If possible please make a Video on Customising apps in Windows 11
Cheers! Interesting topic, I will consider it for sure and add it to my list :)
1:55 can PDF Gear runs on Android or any alternative for PDFs annotation in Android⁉️
Yes it is available on Android 👍
u deserve more subscribers bro
Ah thanks a ton! :D
is there any application that locks the explorer at a particular folder such that if anyone tries to close the explorer interface on clicking x button he/she will need to enter the password to close it.
Unrelated question to the video but I just want to know which laptop are you using?
Nope its a fair question 🙂My laptop is the XPS 15 9510, I've been using it for around 3 and a half years at this point and have done a full review video on this link if you want to check it out :D

Bro I am using windows 10 and I can't use fluent cast I cant install it,
Can you give another recommendation for podcast app
Poddr Podcast.
Try Pocket Casts :) it seems to have a decently clean UI pocketcasts.com/downloads/windows/
I'll replace everything except for Microsoft Edge. That one's great, especially in terms of performance and battery life.
Edge is great, provided you can tailor it to your needs, remove any bloat and are ok with all the Microsoft stuff. It does provide the best of both worlds in regards to the tab format as well allowing you to have vertical and horizontal tabs
Windows Calculator is actually good, it has many conversion functions
And keyboard shortcuts too, however I don't think it can functionally match Qalculate and Speed Crunch are able to offer. It does however have the better design obviously being designed by Microsoft and having the fluent design.
Need a detail video on Zen Browser
In the works 👀
dude what is that laptop's model?
It’s the Dell XPS 15 9510 :) I did a full review video on it here after using it for around 3 and a half years if you want to check it out on this link ruclips.net/video/j-g7ng-chqA/видео.htmlsi=kwMnGzCnG4f80ubu
Do the video for the latest beta of Zen browser ppl would be surprised by the amount of changes since the alpha phase.
I've seen the new design and it seems there are a few changes to the UI as well will include this 👍
For image i use honeyview. I have it to not even show frames
Thanks for the suggestion 👍
I want a video about Zen !
It's in the works don't worry 😁
@Productive_Tech Thanks !
Nothing can beat windows photos app for removing background in one click
To be honest I didn't even realise that was a thing admittedly until now. Seems like some windows apps do have hidden features up their sleeve. Might be worth a video to deep dive into some...
Is the main reason I still use this lagging thing instead of reverting back to the previous Windows Photo Viewer
thanks g 😄
I will check pdfgear
Use linux to replace windows.
Hey, could you also show some Linux Apps for the Penguin Community? =P
Never tried Linux and don't have too much time on my hands to test it out currently but this is something that I am working on...
XD haha lol. No worries, I'll try my best, keep a look out 😁
GIMP's UI is still in 90s
Tbh I don't think it is all too bad, it is definitely old in regards to the way that it operates but purely from a design perspective especially with the dark mode its quite passable imo. Could be better but yh
Thanks for the video. But you are just mentioning the surface features. You talk about them like those features isn't already available.
I agree, Photo viewing, video playback, browsers, file explorers, calculators, PDF readers etc all of which mentioned can indeed be done by the the default applications. However there are apps that imo are better for example either in the UI/design or some extra functionality. Agreed that Arc is better on macOS; visual, and functionality.
Yep, I found that out after testing Arc on Windows not too long ago, it's on my channel, feel free to check it out 🙂
Instead of screen box, VLC would be a much better alternative
VLC still is a very decent option no question about it, just thought I would share a more modern alternative :). Though if you haven't seen it I'd recommend checking out a VLC video I did not too long ago which might be of interest ruclips.net/video/GmcWHqInKnY/видео.html
imageglass is not free in the store
Yes you must download it from the website in the classic version instead where it is free. I think I have linked this in the description?
@Productive_Tech I'm afraid the free version is a bit different in terms of app settings
Zen browser is cool
Agree, working on a video for it in the meantime, stay tuned :)
Zen browser on my option not best but open source😮
Files would be so good as a replacement but it's slower than file explorer.
5:16 calling gimp an alternative to microsoft paint is insulting! When Gimp possesses the ability to compete against Photoshop!
But Zen is not available for Android, so no cross platform, which is a deal breaker for me.
Fair point, I think it will be a while before you see the browser on mobile platforms (including iOS) as it is an open source project that is still in beta currently. Let's see
Great video! Pls do you make sponsored videos and how does one contact you for sponsored video ?

No worries! :)
2:25 please make one
Will do :)
You need to sketch out templates of how you draw and then make drawings graphically in programs, this is looks great, but you will burn out
Thanks for the concern and is something I am considering. They definitely take me a while to do but I think it adds a unique element to the videos and people seem to enjoy them too.
Most 70% apps that he mentioned in this vdo have Linux appimages and worked on Linux.
I dualboot Linux and Windows, simply because Windows has much wider compatibility with most things, it’s not ridiculous
Gimp? Nah, I'd prefer Krita
That's fair and maybe krita is more of a direct alternative being more for digital painting but I think it depends on ones use case. Thanks for the suggestion 🙂
don't use lightshot
Any Browser that is Not built on Chromium I will not download (because Extensions)
That's fair I guess
Onlyoffice before Libre
Agree. I just wasn't aware of it at the time of making the video. Only office is definitely a lot more modern
barajul tarnita ftw!
We should collaborate 🤞🏾😅
To be honest, I do have alot of commitments these days and have already had a few people/sponsors reach out but I am honestly so stretched for time right now while retaining a 1 per week upload schedule (hence I haven't got any contact details in the channel about page). Hopefully this will change as the year progresses but I will let you know if so, best bet is to keep an eye out on the about page of the channel for contact links. Hope you understand 🙏
Zen
bro just switch to linux 🐧
Maybe one day...
you sure all of them is free? image glass requires money to pay
Yes all are free, if you go onto the image glass website there is an option for the classic installer where you can get it for free. It is open source, I hope that helps 👍
For
Photos - picasa
Office - onlyOffice
Will check them out, thanks! 👍
i have tried the zen browser, just uninstalled it(my laptop lagged and often hanged).
@@PrinceKumar-bu2ds No worries 👍
not Zen
Not OMPL. OPML
My bad 😅
@Productive_Tech no worries. Found your channel last week and I really like it. Cheers
@ Ah glad to hear it and thanks for watching! :D
files is NOT works better bro. sorry
Only office is the way to go, libre is trash compared to it
Will consider it and check it out.
Just pirate office it's not that hard now.
I guess that's not a bad option also 🏴☠
people still use Windows in 2025 ? weird...
People are still surprised by that in 2025? Weird
damn, screenbox is ugly
@dagwould How is paper recycled?
@Productive_TechIt's Great to find you on considering note...
Detailed video on zen
Working on it 👍
irfanview, mpcHC, mpv, winyl, sumatrapdf, thorium, qDir, pinta, ditto
Thanks for the suggestions 👍
you have to pay for files now
Do you? You can get it for free when downloading from the Files website?
