    What if they resistor is not reading anything but 0’s across the meter, would that mean the key itself isnt good?

      @@ant8729 Not sure. Parts are getting hard to find I would just program it out and disable the system its cheaper

    Actually the 1986 Corvette was the first car that used the factory VATS system with the chip in the key. This same system lasted until 2002 when it was installed into the last fourth gen F-Body Camaro & Firebird like you said, and I also believe the last Cadillac Eldorado as well (these cars all still used the vintage Saginaw steering column from 1969).

    • @GhettoWagon
      @GhettoWagon  7 лет назад +1

      Damn, way back when. That was probably the passkey 1, Then they went to 2, no idea what the change were Ya you are right the 2002 eldo had a Saginaw column with the chip.

    • @jsciarri
      @jsciarri 7 лет назад

      Yeah I am not sure when it became the VATS 2 system. Someone had installed a resistor in place of the key pellet under the dash before I bought my 2001 Trans Am for an aftermarket remote start system. The first winter I had the car it would never start on very cold mornings, but would be fine when it warmed up some. Turns out that resistor they used for that chip in the key became defective in the colder weather, and wouldn't allow me to start it by key. I removed that resistor and installed a module that has a resistor inside a plastic case, and plugs right into the factory connector on the steering column.
      Never had any real problems with any of the GM cars I've had that used the older Saginaw steering columns, except with the tilt mechanism that gets loose over time, but you just need to tighten some screws to fix that small issue. Nothing like the later GM columns that were recalled a couple years ago with the defective ignition switches.

      I took apart a tilt column last year, i'm surprised it went back together as easy as It did. No more wobble, its nice.

    The GM passkey introduce 1986.. Chevrolet Corvette.. 1989 Camaro Firebird.. this was the best and most effective.. anti-theft system ever.. Ford securilock. Introduced 1996.. was much better.. modern cars with push-button ignition.. are the easiest cars to steal.. I work with people. Who buy salvage cars.. doing it's over 30 years.. auto theft was cut in half with the passkey 2 system.. even more. Ford secure lock.. but the new push button ignitions.. sends out a signal. Criminal can get the code.. this is why I only drive..Aa..GM.96..Camaro..😎

  • @yourspeedyretirement
    @yourspeedyretirement Год назад

    The resistors are cheap enough, or were. Why not buy one of each, splice into the wire temp with clips, and keep going until you find the one that turns off the security light? Tidy it up & move on..

      I wonder if the 96 key fits in the 95. Some say if I keep picking keys from GM junkyard cars I have have a set that will work on hundreds if not thousands of vehicles. is there a signal resistor out there that is close to 1.130?

    • @hakemon
      @hakemon 7 лет назад

      I don't think there is, you'll need to play with ohms law a little.. Series adds together, where parallel takes away (but not as equally as subtracting). I could draw up a simple schematic later if you need me to.

      I always wondered if you could put in the FWD version of the 5.3, LS4 in a Cadillac. It would solve the north star problems with a LS engine . Get the caddy with a clean title but busted. Get a wrecked 5.3 LS4 FWD Chevy or Pontiac.
