pretty sure it can one shot vehicles if your not in them. i'd say it isn't worth it. recently lost a prawn suit in the fabricator caverns. it was at full health and i parked on top of the fabricator base. managed to use my seaglide and one medkit to get all the way up to the crystal palace cash then to Marguerit's base. almost got killed by a squid shark of all things when i was ascending to the surface of the lillypads biome. luckily there was a rock that a lillypad was holding up with a few caves in it. managed to get to delta island where i grabbed some horseshoe nuts (witch give health) and managed to get all the way back to the shallow twisty bridges. my proudest achievement ever.
I have to say that that death animation probably makes me cringe the most, mainly because of how painful I could imagine it being. The others just regularly eat you, while the shadow leviathan looks like it covers you in what could be some kind of acid and then slowly digests you while you're still alive. Which creeps me the hell out.
Some advice for anyone else looking to scan it: It only instantly killed them because they weren't at full health - the animation only triggers if your health is so low that it can kill you with one bite. A shadow leviathan's bite deals 75 damage, meaning that as long as your health is above that, you won't be killed in one bite. So just bring a couple of medkits with you and heal yourself once it bites you. After that it wont attack you for a while, so you'll have plenty of time to scan it. That, or just bring a prawn suit with a grappling arm and go full DOOM on their ass until it floats upside down. That works, too. Either way, these games are actually a lot less terrifying than they seem, at least if you know what you're doing.
i made a base in the crystal caverns and it SAVED MY LIFE, i put a moonpool in it and after going down to assemble al-ans bbody my seatruck was almost completely destroyed and i had no clue how to get out but then i saw it, the base. needless to say it was the best choice i ever made while playing below zero

Amen. I managed to fully scan this thing but it killed me. A few hours later we met again. That time it grabbed me I was in the Prawn, punching with one arm, drilling it with the other screaming "CHOKE ON IT!!!!!!!!"
Just kill him by bumping him with your sea truck, when a creature takes damage, its afraid and it tries to flee, so you have time to repair your sea truck,( or use the electricity). I killed two shadow leviathans using that method and then i scanned one of them.

Pro tip: The leviathan is pretty stationary while it's attacking something, so you can scan it while it's distracted eating your Prawn suit, then keep repairing the suit while it loops around.
Well they won't attack ur prawn suit unless u r inside the prawn suit so basically stay inside ur prawn suit until it attacks u then exit ur prawn suit then scan it (idk if it works or not because I haven't tried it as I have kill all the 3 shadow leviathan :/)
@@yoshino2880 They do attack the suit while you’re out of it. Parked my suit in front of the fabricator room, and turned to find my suit being carried off. That’s when I had the idea to scan it.
That’s exactly how my 10 hours hardcore run ended At least, loosing hardcore while trying to scan shadow levi is much better than loosing because you got lost in a cave without oxygen
I had my base on a cliff right by the giant ventgarden. I'd been exploring the cave system with my seaglide (no prawn suit and no sea truck depth upgrades yet) and for some reason thought exploring the crystal caves was a good idea. On top of that, I thought forcing myself to scan the leviathan was a good idea. It took a solid five attempts, and I drowned on the way out.
@@thiccsketchyyoshi4029 when I started out, I thought it was this game’s equivalent of the crab snake. I only saw it’s face, and looked behind it to see a long body, so I said “eel”. And when I saw a juvenile vent garden, I thought that’s what they were hiding in, like a crab snake in a jellyshroom. I avoided the purple vents and tree spires cause I saw the chelicerates in the purple vents, and the juvenile vent gardens in the tree spire.

This game always intrigued me but how long does it take to play it through? I feel like ill get hooked but I dont want to grow a neckbeard playing this.
The easiest way I found to scan him was to go to the roof of that cave, have the Sea truck block you from below and he'll try to attack through the columns, but won't be able to go through ( unless it glitches out ) and easy scan....

This game gave me so much anxiety I never made it remotely close to this level of progression. Guess I'm never going diving.
Theres a little area where he cant reach you in between the crystals in the cavern so he is just stuck there and you get a little close to scan him

I finished it in 12 hours with no guides. I bet you can lessen that with walkthroughs.
