I was impressed with how they looked. It just takes a lot of time to get that sort of look. A couple of mine are starting to gain that sense of maturity.
Aww thanks Xavier for sharing my pics. We are currently in a heatwave and difficult to do any gardening. Bring on winter 🥶 great pruning video, thx again
Really appreciated that bit of summer! Nice pruning on the different species. Definitely got my fingers itchy for doing the same. Maybe I'll hack away at the rose bushes tomorrow - thankfully, no snow ... yet...
Hi Xav. Nice to see a bit of summer tree work instead of the raw winter weather we are stuck in, wooly aphids have been a right pain on my apple and they carried on being a pest into winter. Stay indoors mate we don't want you getting cold. The frost at the moment is horrendous, a bit warmer next week thank the lord, hope all our trees survive.
Very cold - I visited Heron's yesterday and it was like a sea of ice on all the trees. It did go to show that winter protection isn't the biggest of issues in the UK. What we have to beware of is sudden temperature increases followed by bigger freezes :)
Hazel are one of my favourite trees to work on. They grow quickly and develop character easily. I've got a couple on the go at the minute (picked up for a combined total amount of £10 last year in a garden centre sale).
Kennet's Hornbeam at 13:44 is ABSOLUTE BANGER!!! - Xav, on that Alder i would push the new apical region far to the right to ballance the tree, and in future move it back to the left - Putting it somewhat off the middle - nice compact zigzag going on etc. ... Anyway, very cool stuff dude, i love those "random" cuttings we find, and get to play with them, while they are developing.
Cheers - you are spot on with the Alder...in fact, I did something like that a couple of weeks later. The clip actually shows up in a video I did as 'bonsai for breakfast'.
I’m not normally a fan of the tropicals but those tiny portulacaria in the members pics were very sweet. ❤

Lovely. ❤ No more words, just thanks.
Thank you so much - I shall pu this towards my fertiliser funds. I pray all is well with you :)
Looking forward to the summer ☀️
You and me both :)

So nice to see a little summer 😊
Funny to think it was 30C when I filmed that :)
It was an elm...😂
How is the frost in your garden right now?
-3 C for e few days. Nothing bad.
Saturday here in the retreat, I wish it was the 4th of July...🌴🌳🌲👍
I forgot it was a heatwave when i filmed that little winter special :)
Looking forward to the updates on all them trees
It shall be good to see how they look in early march :)
I have a bunch of Hazel to work with this year courtesy of the squirrels.
I am guesing that is because they bury their nuts?

At least when it is cold you can dress warmer...
Big thanks for all your advice on the Korean Hornbeam Xavier! I'll keep you updated regarding the upcoming procedures. God bless

Thanks for watching - never quite know how people will react to 'out of season' videos :)

They have been my surprise find as well. You definitely don't need to spend lots of money to enjoy bonsai :)
Even below freezing here in Florida today!
Really? Is that rare or do you generally have a few days like that each year?

👍👌🙂
Morning Bruce
Nice one Xavier. You always seem to do the ones I’m most interested in. Have to look into getting a Hazel. Thanks!
Thanks randy - the Hazel are surprisingly fun to work with. I have three or four young plants at the moment
I wish i could leave my bonsai out in the winter😅 Had -18°C last weekend🥶
I shiver just thinking about that temperature. Good luck :)
Do the trees not die in winter? I thought you had to move them somewhere warmer, so I blocked half of my garage with my plants
I have a video coming out this saturday answering that question...so i don't want to ruin the surprise :)
i have a few english elm cuttings rooted if you dont have english elm in your collection mate
Thanks for the offer Ben - I have 3 or 4 larger English Elm to work on and managed to get some cuttings going from them last year. Cheers
@XaviersBonsaiRetreat no worries my friend, had to ask 🙂
