- This was a really fun build that the customer brought to me. His idea for the build was different than most I've done with the floating shelf, but ended up working really well! The slide out table give a massive amount of extra table space for cooking, camping, fixing something, etc. The flip up pieces behind the two front seats was a great idea that i had to think about a bit to execute to make it simple for anybody to use.

ABOUT ME I grew up in a cabinet shop and was a born to be woodworker. In the past few years when work slowed in the custom cabinet industry I converted a few friends Vans and SUV's so they had more storage for adventuring, work, or just the weekend beach getaway. Before I knew it I had my own business making people's ideas come to life. I design and build all kinds of custom wood work and vehicles here at my shop in Huntington Beach, California! DUDE!! You do amazing work, I love seeing how you utilize every square inch of space. Well done sir, well done!
Wish I could see the people camp and live in the build. My imagination can't see it yet. Beautiful quality build. I see the quality for sure.
Awesome. We have an Xterra that we take off-roading and need to modify a little to sleep in for short trips when we are not taking the teardrop. This gives us some ideas. Great job.
Now I know who to come to when I decided to hit the road in my SUV! Great job!
The interior reminds me of basically the same as a tear drop camper. Nice work bro.
I had the same problem when I first bought my 2013 Xterra pro 4X and trying to sleep in it was a challenge, and since my jet sky was (kaput) I got it of the trailer and built myself a teardrop trailer with a rear w/c and shower.
This is amazing. Bravo to your creativity and the obvious high quality of your work. You are an inspiration!
Very clever use of space Brian. Nice clean finish.
Very clever design and excellent workmanship. My X has no built-ins so that I can sleep on my camp-cot outside if I wish. Several plastic bins for "stuff". Flexibility is important for me, but I love what you did there!
i am amazed! , your ideas, creativity & skills your builds are absolutely top notch & as good as ANY i have seen. great work!
I just found your channel and am freaking out! This is amazing thank you for doing these!!
Brian you are amazing!! I enjoy all of your videos, super cool, inspiring, truly amazing!!!
Thank you for sharing. WOW
Getting an xterra In a few weeks..Great camping Vehicle and surprisingly Reliable
Awesome Storage system. I am a Automotive Technician and currently assigned a 2006 Nissan Xterra as a mobile field response mechanics vehicle. I had just laid out the bottom floor 3/4" plywood and maintaining the use of one or both split 70/30 rear passenger seats. I was going to build shelving unit with a sliding floor table for the rear lift gate storage area, but after seeing your video gave me inspiration to modify my design and if I can have your permission to incorporate some of your design. I love the rear suspended sliding shelf with the two removeable drawers. The bottom side wing spaces with the open cut outs is a brilliant idea! I can foresee additional storage space utilizing the side rear left and right window spaces. I did keep in mind to have some access to the existing hidden storage space at the rear and like your flushed floor access panel idea. I am excited to build my assigned vehicles storage space. Great Storage Concept!!
No idea why he didn’t just take the removable hidden storage plastic floor panel and drop the jack into that giant hole. I’d have made that panel for the jack the exact size of that hidden well and taken the plastic cover out. Massive amounts of storage under there
Nice! I would like to do something similar one day when I turn my X into an overlander.
Always had terrible luck with my Xterra..was just a money pit. Transmission died after 90,000 miles. Nice build though!
Super clean and functional build. I am very impressed.
Wow, that build out is amazing, your craftsmanship is some of the best I’ve seen. I’m going to be contacting you when I’m ready to do a storage system in my 2019 Frontier.
Nice work! What a great idea they had for the head extensions.
This was pretty cool design !!! Great looking. Super functional. Beautiful work.
Dude i got a PathFinders same Gen's as your customer
,, you give me a lot of idea right now °!!! THXXXX
:D
Brilliant execution of a client's dream!
Thats actually pretty cool. Nice craftsmanship.
XTERRA GANG!!!! I have a 2000 x and I love that car
We have a 2005 yellow. Definitely our favorite off road SUV!
Truck**
I hate my 2000 X, the transmission is fucked up, actually I don't hate the car, I hate Nissan for letting Jatco build its transmissions. Do you think a manual swap is worth it, or should I get a different car altogether?
I miss mine!
2002 X Supercharged here.
Love it...I wanna copy the.floating sliding shelve for my 4runner.
Love this design. I keep toying with the idea of a build similar to this to maximize head space. As practical as storage under the bed is, I don’t love the idea of loosing the headspace in an suv.
Some great ideas for utilizing the space available - the two slide out surfaces w/o drawer slides are simple but very useful. The sleep surface being low, with storage above hasn't been done much in these vehicle build-out videos, but personally feel it's a better design - one doesn't feel as claustrophobic (anymore than usual when sleeping in a vehicle of that size), and you've got room to sit up in bed, recline, or just make it easier to get in & out of bed.
Nice build, and thanks for sharing these ideas.
Totally agree. With the seat leaned forward makes a great backrest too!
agreed. check out my ‘build’ i did. very similar stuff as here, but on a smaller budget.
That is a great use of that space. I’d like to see it finished with ebony Polly stain finish.
Really nicely executed! Great idea on the upper drawer section
Great ideas in this one! Those cutting boards are trick.
Nicely done. Some interesting ideas here!
Very crafty, you know your trade!
ANOTHER BRILLIANT IDEA!! We plan on incorporating this slide out table on the right side, leaving the other space OPEN as a great storage place for our folding solar panels!
Very cool and unique setup. You do great work!
Really well thought out set up. Very impressive.
I like your center trap door. What might be an idea is to divide that underneath space with net. Maybe aluminum 1' x 1/8" bend to conform with the floor. Then you could shove things in either side or the middle, know where they're going to be, but not be constrained if you over fill one area or the other. And of course there are items you intend to put in this space that make this impractical. I would log something like this to memory for possible use somewhere else.
One issue I have with stuff sacks and material by the yard suppliers (I make some of my own gear). The colors are too similar and too dark (If I never have another 'black' anything I won't miss it) so you can't easily color code storage or find it in dim light.
Instead of the table brackets, for my 'bunk' my extension folds back over the top. I use webbing that gets tight to hold the 'shelf' in place. At most it only supports my head while I'm sleeping. I do like your use of the brackets. They don't waste any space because the seat is going to slide back when they're not deployed. Good idea.
I like your removable trays. What engineers would now do with all of this is to make the next iteration with thinner and thinner plywood until it fails, then back up a notch. The half bunk I made for my Prius V (to go see the eclipse in 2017. I'm still using it) is 1/4 inch luan plywood with 3/4" ribs stiffening it. It's held up well.
VERY well done !
I like your work. Pretty inspiring stuff.
stunning wood works !
Nice build. Your vid is the closest I could find to get ideas for my Nissan pathfinder build, very similar vehicles. So thanks but if noticed something in your video that you may not be aware of. On the pass seat next to the head rest there's a lever. So here's what to do. First, pull the lever on the bottom of the seat so that the backrest is forward. Then pull on that lever on the top by the headrest and the seat should lay flat. Adjust accordingly. Gives another 2 feet or so.
You are truly so gifted
You are so creative!!
Great work!
Makes me want to rip out the back of my X and build my own! This is amazing!
Iggy OC you can do something similar to this without using seat function. Right now your seats flip forward and then the back lays down with the headrests off. That gives you the bed platform. Then you jest make some shelf in the back similar to what he shows here. That way you still have 5 seats but can take more people. If you want more bed space like he is showing you remove the bottom portion of the seats and store them and then get the little action pack storage container that fits in there
Very good design and good carpentry bud. It has given me some ideas for my conversion.
Regards from South Africa
You work with very little.... good job 👍🏼
Great Work !!
Nice set up . I would use it for work . Great video
Xterra can fix a FULL SHEET OF PLYWOOD (4x8') it does stick out about 2'. A false floor where plywood could lay flat on top, over wheel wells, would be a top priority for me.
Outstanding build!
You're doing a great job!
great build.. wouldve loved to see how they used the build..
Great set-up
Dont need for camping but have an xterra and starting my own business and need a work truck, but pretty positive this will do, plus it tows 5k, so trailer if need be
Awesome work. I'll be in touch for a project I have in mind!
Very impressive! So cool
Nice work....sure they will enjoy that.
Very nice, love it!!!
Great build out!! 👍🏼👍🏼
WOW! I love it.
Totally awesome build, very clean and efficient design. I just subscribeed.👏👏👏
Love the low profile bed, but I feel for most people, to access those upper shelves, especially if you keep your refrigerator or stove on those, it would just be too high. I wonder if there is some type of slide or hinge system that would allow those high shelves to rotate down while coming out so they are lower when they were opened, THAT would make this build a 10/10 for sure.
I'd rather have drawers under the bed, you can't get in from the back in this one, ld pee myself before l managed to wrangle my way out the side door in the middle of the night lol
There is a slide out tray that pivots out and down so that the fridge remails horizontal.
Good stuff! I’m building some cool Nissan myself!
Wow great job!
Love your work
Very neat set up 😊
Great job mate
Love Your Custom 😍 Build

Awsome bro looks amazing
If only I could make the trip for my enclosed trailer.

Awesomeness I love my xterra
U have got to be kidding me. This is exactly what I've been looking for.
What is the cost on something like that?
A couple Grand. I've got a mine for sale. 2001 Nissan Xterra Yellow. Let me know if you're interested
Never expected to comment on this video but great work man!
I like your buildout!
love it amazing idea
That's a sick ass set up too btw
Great job dude
Wow it’s awesome..🇨🇦👍
Nice work!
Very nice!
Holy shit dude you are a creative genius
Good job man
that is the exact set up i wanted for my grand cherokee but instead of a drawer, a lil loft for my kid
Love it!
Nice job! You should sell the kit, ready to be installed
We roll with this upper shelf lower sleeping setup in our 4Runner and the best part for us is that you can hide all your bins in the foot spot under the shelf in the day so the car looks empty and then set it on top at night to have room to sleep. No drawer on top for us but a good idea for this larger SUV. Our old 99 is small enough to reach everything but that’d be wise in larger, newer set ups.
Have you considered working some aluminum framing into your work at all?
Our shelf is aluminum, plastic sliders and wood.
I have thought about trying to some 80 20 but havent thought it is really needed yet
👍🏼 good job
I have a 2013 Xterra pro4X but we wouldn't fit in it, so I built a off road teardrop with a rear restroom and shower
Nice idea, but looks like people wouldnt be able to roll over or sleep on their sides because of that top level. Could the top level be on a vertical slide system where u raise it up towards the ceiling & lock it into place for a more roomy nights sleep? Sort of the way a standing jackstand slides up its bar & locks into place? Could be one on right, one on left, & the sliding jack feature could be telescoping so when u lower it down it disappears down into itself- theres gotta be a way to lift that upper level to ceiling when sleeping, cuz they're gonna want a mattress pad in there & even a 3" memory foams gonna take up precious space. Fun ideas tho, for sure!
Perfect
Very creative,
Very cool
Muito legal ! Very nice !
8/11/2020 I like this design a lot. Don
