Right on man! 👍 It's kinda funny seeing your comment on this video as I just got back from a backpacking trip using this system lol. Still works great 👍
Thanks for the words of encouragement bro! I've actually thought about re-doing some of these older vids and trying to make them better quality. Worth a shot at least, eh 👍 (apologies for the late reply by the way... missed the notification somehow)
Thanks Brant. I'm really glad that you are happy with your order my friend! Can't wait to hear about some of your adventures this season... you're certainly blessed with some gorgeous country down your way, that's for sure! All the best to you and yours! -John
Excellent idea! I made a soda can stove and that would fit perfect inside of one of these! I also have the same survival bracelet in grey, those are an awesome idea too!
@Woodenarrows Thank you Jim. Yeah, the extra capacity sure makes a difference, huh? Don't know about you, but I'm loving the options that these rings afford! Thanks again for posting that original video showing them off! Hope your day is going well my friend!
I really llike your pot ring DIY I did one for a Fosters can and it works great. Now I am going to follow your lead and make me a couple of the smaller sizes. Thanks for doing these videos.
Hey John, thank you for the prompt shipping and fire starters. I will definitely enjoy cooking with this cook set here in Nevada's wilderness. Hope all is well with you. Brant from Las Vegas.
@rondygal Thanks my friend! Yeah, the lid was a cool discovery... I was surprised to find that it fit on there like that. Good idea using the drink container, that sounds like it would work perfectly! Best regards......
OMG!!! Just tore 2 monster cans trying to do this and watching your video for the umpteenth time because you make it look so easy. I've never had rings....and I WANT RINGS! lol. I did get my ridges done. That was way easier than I thought it would be, or I would have done that years ago. I should do the pot rings before adding the ridges though....that's if I ever get a ring in the darn pot. I'll have to get my son and his friends to drink some more monsters, as I don't care for them, and I certainly can't handle drinking any more Fosters.
@nycbike73 Good question! I've heard differing opinions actually. I look for the cans that don't have a liner when possible... other than that, I think that they are perfectly safe as long as you have something in them when they are being heated. With that said, I stay away from the cans that have thick liners like the Coors cans. I'm far from an expert here though, lol.
@RichBeastly Right on Brother! Thanks! I'm with you... I made a little stove out of one of those little 8oz V8 cans that fits perfectly inside this setup... I probably should have shown it.... oh well. And yeah, these paracord bracelets are awesome! Take care man!
@wilcoxtube Thanks my friend! To answer your question: I haven't picked up any rust yet, but I have no doubt that they would be very susceptible to it! I try to make sure that I dry them asap after each use. I haven't found any aluminum ones yet, but I'm keeping my eye out for better options all the time. I did have the thought of using something to coat the rings with prior to installation that would help with corrosion/rust resistance... just not quite sure what yet. Hope that helps...
Great vid! I made a small cookout from a Rodgers can and it's perfect for doing adamant and meat and veggie soup on the trail works perfect 0-dinner in less than ten minutes. Thanks for the idea
Cool deal John. I just upped my Fosters pot from 18 to 20 oz for the very same reason you mentioned. Enough water in one boil to make my oatmeal and have a cup of coffee.
More awesome stuff John! You practically have a serving set of four going for you there... : ) Thanks a bunch for the info and have a great weekend! : )
@Winkiedoodles Thank you Don! The CMA, huh? I wasn't aware of that particular organization.. thanks for the heads-up! The only CMA that I knew of was the "Country Music Awards" ;-0 lol. Best regards my friend! P.S. I think I have waaay too much time on my hands.... I really need to get out and go fishing! haha!
John really wish you could put together a detailed video of the cans you used to make your rings and your pots. i have tried several can and pots and can only get the small pop can to work.
@ScoutsNOA Hey my Brother! It's good hearing from ya man. Thanks for the compliments by the way... much appreciated! Hope you're not working too hard buddy... and you're getting the chance to get out and "play" every once in awhile. Peace Bro....
@kidpasty72 Apologies for the slow reply my friend. I had the same problem trying to find a can that would work... what finally did the trick was a 12oz evaporated milk can from Hy-Top. I also switched it up after I posted this and made the pot out of a 24oz Monster can... fit perfectly! Hope that helps....
@medicjimr Thanks Jim. I really enjoyed your latest video with your new tarp btw... I need to swing back by and leave a comment (sorry about that buddy). Have a good one Jim!
Forgot to mention. I of course need a coffee cup so I may look into making one from an Arizona Tea can. I think a soda can may be a bit too small. Thanks for your great DIY videos.
@Winkiedoodles LOL!! I get myself in enough trouble without the booze and energy drinks buddy! ;-0 We usually don't ice up too much here in the valley, so there's generally some type of fishing to be had somewhere around. The problem lately has been the weather... it can't make up it's mind from one day to the next! I've hit the Boise River a few times for some decent trout, but the bass aren't cooperating at all (could be the fisherman though ;-)).
Hey, I really love your videos. I'm new to this, so don't take my question as any kind of criticism. I'm wondering if, after you add the tupperware to keep the kit from being crushed in your pack, it wouldn't be easier just to use a tin can that has the ring already built in?
Interesting and innovative! Be careful though, the CMA - Cookware Manufacturers Association - will be after you to make the next Foster's iCook line of pots and pans! (There really is a Cookware Manufacturer's Association, no joke!) Best wishes, Don
We are just getting into trying to make some homemade pots and cups, and this info is great! Have you tried doing any of this with a coconut water can, the ones with the built in ridges? They are only 17.5 oz usually, so may not be big enough for a cook pot for people who need to boil 2 cups at a time, , but certainly could be cut down into a drinking cup. C2O is one brand I have seen with ridges.
@Figure14HH LOL! You don't know how right you are my friend! I haven't got security called on me yet, but I sure do get some weird looks! ;-0 Thanks for the great comment by the way! Best to ya....
@Woodenarrows Yeah, I thought the same thing, but figured the 1 cup capacity would work with the 20oz pot... will have to see how it works out in actual practice though.... gotta have that coffee! ;-) Let me know how yours works out if you don't mind... I always value your opinion and knowledge Jim!
have you ever made a pot out of a coconut water can. i think they are 17.5 ounces have ridges in them which make them very strong. just wanted to know if u have made one from them or have heard anyone that has
Any way to make a handle on these pots to left them off an alcohol stove? Preferably something collapsable and cool to the touch, any ideas would be awesome!
The problem with the coconut water can is that it is tin/metal which can rust, the lid on some of them is aluminum. The beer/soda can is aluminum and safe to use.
ive found cat food cans that are alumium that have the ring if you want to go even lighter! i am looking for any diy projects for survival gear out of stuff like cans.I also have an idea for an all in one back pack and am trying to market it.
@eamonn280958 I know huh! lol. It's just one of those weird little "quirks" that we all have I suppose. No real reason behind it... it does make a useful little tool sometimes though! Best to ya man....
You can get a 28-oz baked bean can and burn the liner out in a fire, then use that as a case for your cook kit. Or instead of that T-ware, cut the top inch off the inside of a Tang/CountryTime jar. Now you have a tough case with a lid that's got a built-in measuring cup.
Do you know of some aluminum alternatives to the tin on different sized pots? I don't want to be looking to darn crazy at the store :) I've gotten my husband and son onto your videos, and they love your vids as much as I do. Good job on everything!
@intenseangler I just spent a night in a tree house and making coffee with three different brew methods :-)) If I can get my video edit and short enough I'll be posting it soon.
Hey brother is there a way you could install a nice aluminum made handle to one of these cups ? I would love to have a coffee mug with a handle :) thanks and keep making these awesome videos !
ive seen them at 7 11, trader joes and asian markets. google it. coconut water can. first result shout be amazon with a goya coconut water can. u can see the ridges in the cans construction that make it really ridged im pretty strong and it takes alot for me to crush it by hand. think it would be an improvement to the fosters pots in durability
@2kargarage1 Thanks Bro. I have another video where I show how to make the rings... it's called "Easy DIY Upgrade To The Fosters Cook Pot"... there's a link to it in the description area of this video.
@intenseangler Well, John, not only do you have too much time, but you are slugging down Fosters and chasing them with energy drinks to make cookware.........?! Just kidding. When do you start icing up and don't you have some trout or steelhead fishing in your parts? Don
Oh man I forgot about these! You introduced me to the foster pot too!
Right on man! 👍 It's kinda funny seeing your comment on this video as I just got back from a backpacking trip using this system lol. Still works great 👍

I love the concept of nesting & interchangeable pots!
I couldn't agree with you more my friend! They definitely come in handy 👍
Thank you for watching and commenting... it's very much appreciated!
Thanks for the tip on these cans. Recently made some and figured out how to add ridges to the pots to add some strength to them.
@rondygal Thanks my friend! Yeah, the lid was a cool discovery... I was surprised to find that it fit on there like that. Good idea using the drink container, that sounds like it would work perfectly! Best regards......
@BoIwar Right on man, couldn't agree more on the stove addition! Thanks for the input Bo... much appreciated!

@ewtoutdoors Thank you my friend! Best to ya buddy!
This cook-set and a pepsi stove... FTW
Great ideas.

I do have a question are the cans meant for boiling? Does the interior of the cans give of any chemicals?
good idea using a beer huggie for a cozy on the cup!

Hey, another Nevadan backpacking. I'm not alone...
The problem with the coconut water can is that it is tin/metal which can rust, the lid on some of them is aluminum. The beer/soda can is aluminum and safe to use.
Tin cans have a plastic or painted interior. If you put that over a fire it will melt into your water/food. Plus it is heavier than the Foster pot.
@Reallybigmonkey1 Me too apparently... maybe a little too much, haha!
Thanks Brother!

where did you get the lid to fit the fosters pot?
Which sort of cans did you use to make the rings for your smaller pots? I remember it was a tuna/jalapeño can for the Foster's can.
***** Whoops, hadn't watched far enough! lol
Neat ideas. Thanks.

@steintanz Thank you Tim. I hope life is treating you well my friend! Or that you are treating it well ;-0
Nice vid thanks for the infor!
found potted meat cans and cat food cans that are made of aluminum like the pot itself. using similar metals reduces the corrosion progression
cool stuff thanks man
A rip it. Wow, I haven't seen those anywhere outside of the area I live.
i SO want to make these but they don't sell those big cans here in the Philippines. so sad.
Hey does anyone know what size tin can works for a arizona soda can? I can't find one that works?
@Cragdwella Thanks Bro! Hope it works for ya! Peace man....
@boredbody The lid that I showed in this vid was from a Blue Diamond almond can... fits great!
@Canteengearshopcom Thanks my friend!
@GunsKnivesSurvival LOL! It's also American for "cheapskate"! ;-)
are these safe to cook with?
