Hi Kel. Thank you for sharing your story! I had a Type A dissection in 2017 about a month after I turned 29. I have no family history of heart issues or aneurysms/dissections. I dissected on a Monday afternoon and didn’t go to the ER until Wednesday night. I thank my lucky stars I did because they discovered the aneurysm at 8.2cm. It fascinates me that the everyone’s physical story is different but the emotions are the same. Keep on keepin on and I wish you the very best!! 💪🏻♥️
Wow, this happened to me a year ago. I woke up with pain in my chest and did not think anything of it and that my blood pressure was high. Later that day the pain came back to my chest and then traveled to my back. Drove to the ER and tests and x-rays were ran. It was discovered my aorta was torn and I bleeding internally. I required emergency surgery and it was discovered my valve was trashed and my heart was enlarged. I had a aneurysm that was going to my neck. I now have a mechanical valve and now take warfin for the rest of my life. Any one deals with the psychological effects that you constantly worry something is wrong with you when it’s not?
I just recently found out that I have a 4.0 aortic root aneurysms but the doctors don’t want to do anything about it until it reaches a five I’m a nervous wreck. I am on the same beta blocker as you.
I just found out about mine 6 weeks ago but my cardiologist wants to wait ! I don’t want to wait I want to get it fixed asap? Have you had your done ? How are you feeling now since it’s been 10 months?
hello, thanks for posting your story. Im 80,with 3.9 ascending aneurysm and very active in the gym .Was told to avoid weight lifting which i've done all my life so a big change for me to try and slow growth . You didn't mention ,you being a gym person too if you have started training again and if so what are you doing. I'm trying to do light weight with controlled breathing and cardio at a slow pace. Doctor told me to come back in a year to measure growth so im not at a critical place yet. Hope to hear from you . thanks tom
Hi thanks for your comment Tom, I have gotten back to exercise but not near what I used to do. Now I mostly do walking, some light jogging and very light weights for my arms about 5 lbs. if you haven’t already I’d suggest joining the Aortic Athletes group on Facebook!
Hi Kel. I am BAV with aortic aneurysm 4.7 CM. 4 months ago replaced my aortic valve with me mechanical valve and ascending aorta repair and taking Acitrom blood thinner tablet. Kindly share me how many days took to come out from server sternum pain. Even after 4 months I am still having server sternum pain.
Hi so sorry to hear about your pain! It took about 6 weeks for my sternum to feel better. I have mostly muscle aches now as I get back to moving more. If your pain is still severe it’s best to let your doctor know!
I know you made this video 2 years ago and might not even see this but can I just ask you during the first 48 hours did you have any complications during the time in the icu my dad (age 45) just had his emergency surgery Monday was a 7 1/2 hour surgery they’ve told us everything was going very good best it could’ve gone but then today they noticed my dad had tensed his leg up and twitched a little bit and began to not respond to commands so they assumed it was a stroke they did a ct scan and they don’t believe it was a stroke any longer but they think it might’ve been a seizure so now for the next 24 hours they have him doing an eeg test to make sure all his brain activity is normal never been so nervous and scared in my life so if you or anyone that sees this comment could just give me any sort of information they can about the first 48 hour experience I would truly appreciate it
Hi I’m sorry you and your family are going thru this. Honestly the first 48 hours are a blur for me, I don’t remember much. I know it is a crucial time and my doctors told my husband I’d likely have a stroke in the first 48 hours but somehow I didn’t which is apparently very rare. My only issue after surgery was fluid in my lungs. Wishing your dad the best in his recovery. There are a lot of aortic dissection support groups on Facebook that can provide better support also ❤️
Love your presence to this life-altering event Do you take beta blockers to bring/keep your heart rate to 60?? Asking because after I added natural supplements my heart rate is 57-63. I am an older 58 male with type B 4.6 cm dissection
Thank you! After my dissection I started getting episodes of tachycardia where my heart rate would go up to 140-150s at rest. I was put on beta blockers mostly for that but also to reduce stress on my aorta. My resting heart rate even before dissection was always low in 50s and hasn’t changed much since on beta blockers
I don’t understand why my drs want to wait till my aneurysm reaches the dangerous level? It’s already at 4 and they can’t even tell me how fast it will grow😯🤷🏻♀️😳
Mine is at 4.8 but since there’s no history of how fast it’s growing my doctor is following up at 6 months with an echo. He said once it gets past 5 he’ll recommend a surgeon. On another video I read a comment where the guy said he was getting the surgery done at 4.8 because he was planning a sailing trip. The surgeon responded that he’d never done a surgery on someone with less than 5 and wished him well.
I had mine 4 months ago and it’s still scary and very bad anxiety. I’m only 27. I came in my blood pressure was super high when I came in and they found the dissection and put a stent in.
Sorry to hear you went through this too at such a young age. I didn’t sue because lawyers I talked to said it would be nearly impossible to prove that the doctors actions worsened my condition because I survived and there’s no way to know if being treated sooner would have changed anything for me. I struggled with anxiety a bit (and still do). EMDR therapy was super helpful, I highly recommend if you’re able to do it!

Wow! So glad you’re ok! I’ve never met someone my age with no family history who’s gone through this too!! Thank you for sharing your story!
A true survivor! Thank you for sharing your story Kel!
Thank you so much!
Thanks for sharing had a dissection in March 2024 and im working on staying positive which is key to my healing!!
Thanks! I have a friend who had this and lived. Just goes to show you that this is life and anything can happen.

Glad you made it thru! I definitely still struggle with anxiety. Take it day by day, it does get better with time!

I think it depends on if you have a genetic condition, for me they would operate if it was closer to 4.5. Maybe seek a second opinion!

My dissection actually occurred 5 months before my emergency surgery which lasted 11 hours
When they sent you home did you sue the hospital? I had torn mine too they put a stent in it
