Arrma Kraton 8s 22t pinion & 20 Million Weight Center Diff Oil Update

- Main portion of this video is removing the center diff and replacing the diff oil with 20 million weight. I also changed from the stock 17t pinion to a 22t pinion.
Major improvement.
If you don’t have a heat gun you can put the tip of your soldering iron onto the head of the screw for 10-15 seconds, this works just as good.
Just put 22t pinion gear in my Kraton and man what a big difference, I didn't mess with the diff but it wheelie on command 👍🏾😎👍🏾
She's a beast, for just a lil time and not much money, the best mod I've seen yet! Great vid by the way.
Your trucks look really good, very well taken care of!
the only way to send more power to the FRONT would be to hold the rear wheels from spinning and the gear ratio INSIDE of the center diff will spin the front wheels almost twice as fast causing balloon. The same thing will happen with the REAR wheels if you hold the front wheels from spinning. If you were to LOCK the center diff, NEITHER front nor rear will get "more" power... they infact will get "EQUAL" amount of power. The reason thicker grease is suggested for the center diff is because when a vehicle accelerates "forward", all the weight is transferred to the "rear" of the vehicle. This causes the front of the car to lift up allowing the front wheels to loose traction and spin free. The funny thing about a diff is that it DOES NOT sent power to the wheels with the most traction! In turn, what a diff DOES DO is send power to the wheels with the "least" traction! CRAZY RIGHT! So now that we understand how a diff (differential) works, how do we fix the problem? There are TWO solutions.... OPTION #1 lock the diff so that equal power is sent to all wheels at all times NO MATTER WHAT all wheels will get 100% power under ANY condition but it is NOT RECOMMENDED unless you understand the consequences so that you can avoid and try to prevent them. OPTION #2...... Do what Jason did and use THICK GREASE. This is the "equivalent" of (partially) locking the diff because the inner spider gears are still allowed "some movement" but its ability to fully behave as a diff is restricted by 50% because of the resistance of the thicker grease. This feature is like a safety net in the event that your vehicles moving parts are under A LOT of stress, the diff will be allowed to transfer some of that power to the wheels with the least traction allowing your motor to continue to spin free and not burn up or over heat. Im sure this answered a lot of ppl's questions and thank you Jason for an inside look on the Kraton rc.
You earned a Sub Sir.. The very idea, of holding a magnet, in place, ready to catch the C Clip.. Bravo, Bravo.
I use silicone ear plugs in my center and rear diffs. Works great and never leaks out.
Thanx for taking the time to explain everything.def learned alot
Great video! Good explanation of the center diff too!!!
Thanks.
Great video and thanks for sharing. 👍🏻👍🏻 She is a BEAST💪🏻💪🏻🔥🔥 I ❤️ MY Kraton 8S
And I think you said “GUYS” like a couple of thousand times. 🤣 Great vide
Detailed video thanks for the help. Definitely can’t emphasize enough you need to heat the Allen head diff bolts they will strip
Great vid! Bud, I share your pain with the Kraton 8 Loc-Tite! Crazy over use of red (!!!) Loc-Tite. I've used the heat gun or apply a soldering iron to the offending bolt. Madness, Arrma need to get on top of build quality control. But, all worth it (?!) for an awesome truck. I run a 21 pinion in UK conditions and get great run times (twin 7600mAh) and motor/ESC run super cool. I wanted offload punch and reasonable speed over hard terrain. Gonna upgrade the diff oil and try a 23. Thinking that actually speccing true 1million (or 2) fluid might be pretty good. Stock fluid looks junk. Also I'm running a Spektrum 9020 servo - great improvement.
I wonder what the 'guys' count is for this video? 500? 1000?
Oh! Sweet! I have a heat gun! 250°f to 1350°f. I’ll have to try it!
Should be good. The latest K8s have been changed to 20 million stock and came with a paper that notifies the change.
Really eh? Mine is the v 1.5 and it was still only a million.
Same here 1.5 and not 20 million must be version 1.75 now 👍
@@JasonPerrinRCVlogs Hmmm... I read it on the Arrma forum, a couple days ago. Titled "surprised when I opened my new 8s today" with a photo of a manual addendum. I'm not sure if links are welcome here but: www.arrmaforum.com/threads/surprised-when-i-opened-my-new-8s-today.21437/
For stripping screws I started to put slits or cuts in the screw heads so I could use my big flat screwdriver. I use the Dremo with the cutting disks.
CEO of “guys” every other word. Stop it! Good vid outside of that
And ahhmmm. Once I had picked up on that I couldn't watch it any more.
I see a lot of guys packing silicone ear plugs into the center diff. Seems to be about the same consistency, maybe a little thicker, but definitely cheaper. 👍
It’s way thicker
That's 1 hell of a job huh? Nice work dude... Impressive👍👍💯😎
Take a shot everytime he says "guys"
YeahBrah CadaBrah right Jesus ! Tourette’s
BRUTAL.....guys
That would definitely mean alcohol poisoning
Awesome Jason just subbed you man great video👍 shame it broke on you at end I just got k8 few days ago absolutely love it im huge arrma fan but that lock tight they defo need to calm down on, great explanation at end on why your doing heavy diff oil honestly one most enjoyable vids I've watched it a long time on maintance 👍
Wow, thank you ☺️. Glad it helped.
@@JasonPerrinRCVlogs if I just did oil without pinion do you think oil alone would still make big difference
Great video very informative thanks for sharing your knowledge 👍
Is the kraton 8s that different than the outcast 8s? I got the outcast 8s exb and I had to put a 39t pinion with a 39spur for it to be enjoyable. I couldn’t imagine only having 22t
Ok JP.... I love your videos, and you asked!!! You said "GUYs" 171 times ( by my count) 😁
Love it bro! Dont change! You are JP!
Thank u for the video. Very helpful 👍
Great vid, i love your vids but i was wondering, is it a Canadian thing to use the term "guys", every other word in your sentences 😆 But seriously, i cant wait to see you give the 8s a good BASH!
I bought a new in box second hand one in the weekend I noticed the diff oil on the chassis. I decided to start a pre lube and snap center diff screws
Nice brother..thanks!
Warm your diff fluid and it will mostly pour right in.
Great job! Thank you
good stuff Jason
Nothing works better then the heat wrench!!!
I added the 20 million and 22T pinion and punch 5 setting and I am still ballooning a bunch and suggestions besides tire change its on the to do list.
What’s up @Jason Perrin RC
I’m building my Arrma Kraton 8s Exb. I have stock electronics for now just wanted to know what is the best gearing for the Kraton EXB 8s. Thanks in advance. I totally missed this video!?
Good job
Is it better to thicken the front diff fluid as well maybe 50k? To keep the tires from ballooning? What thickness front diff fluid do you recommend for the Kraton 8s exb front diff?
Thanks great vid!
my new version of the Kraton 8s has stock a 2.000.000 cst Fluid in the middle Diff, and Punch setting 5......
Is that good? I just got a new one less than a week ago
@@jcallesano ,you can Test it with your own! I think drive it out of the box….
@@mandiwacker punch was on 3, now it's 5. Waiting for my 4s batteries to really test it. First test on 6s was lame in it.
Good video ! I have to say all i see is people making upgrades and switching parts on cratons ? And than run them and break something!! I have the Maxx all i did was the wide kit thats it ! And i bash the shit out of it !!! And maybe im lucky but the Maxx takes the beating and keeps on truckin..... got to love the Maxx !
Thank you 👍🏼👍🏼
I just put a 25 tooth in with stock diff fluid and just upped the burst and it is a monster now I can’t wait to do the diff fluid I’m just worried about run time
Just saying, I have a v1.5 Kraton 8S, in the manual it says it already has 20 Million weight fluid in the center diff
Hi Jason not sure if you knew, you can update the firmware on the spektrum dx5 rugged to get telemetry on your remote
What's your thoughts on this vs your 6s v4? Is the 8s worth the 350$ more?
Get a good soldering pen works a bit faster what little drill was you using great how to video
Hey Jason, awesome video thank you for it. I just broke my control arm also, any chance you live in Edmonton and have a spare to sell? I seen the Great Hobbies sticker 🙏
Ontario.
Good information.
good info - thanks
Also if ya want more runtime gear it up and bring additional batteries lol
Hey thnx for the vidoe. Nicely done! Where did you get the wheels? They look nice.
Awesome thanks for the info bro . Unlucky with the broken arm . Have you had a look at the Bluetooth module ?
I'm sure you've swapped out those glass A arms by now. LOL "Guys."
Cool vid, iv already done the mods but with a 23t still getting 16+ min run times with no heat issues😀 what did you hit ? Iv soaked all my plastics with gt80 no breaks up to now, 🤞
Hi. Can I put 20 mil cst into infraction v2 without damage?
I dont appreciate arrma puts too much thread lock because if you heat it up, i concern the bearings could get hurt as well , wish i am just over worried .
20million Centre diff is stock ?
I've never dealt with diff oil that thick yet, maybe heat it a little bit with the heat gun? I'm sure i will be dealing with it eventually... :)
I mostly run on OnRoad would you recommend a RTR K8s or Xmaxx ?
1 shot every” um” full beer every “guys”
Hi Jason , best esc for bash durability and acelerantion for you?
Guys. Guys. Guys. Guys
jason which do you like the best between the Kraton 8s and the X-maxx and why? also what is your favorite rc truck or car and why?
I’m going to be doing a comparison video I’m the next week. I’m not sure yet on which one I like more.
Great job bro how do I find that diff oil
Please tell me
Guys...
What spur are you running ?
What tires are those?!
Weight of tires similar?
Cool video... But when do you bash and enjoy running these vehicles already geez 😂 all these upgrades not even used 🤔 🧐 🧐?
👍🏻
What part of Canada are you in?
Ontario.
Smh I broke 2 screws & script 2 🤒😡
It's supposed to come with 20 million out of the box already 🤔.
No. From what I read only the newest 1.5 versions have 20 mil. I got mine from the first batch and they still had 1 mil in them. There should be a piece of paper indicating 20 mil in the box of the ones with 20 mil.
@@JasonPerrinRCVlogs Ah OK. I just got mine yesterday 🤔. I'll see how it runs with the punch 5 settings today. I also have the 23t pinion coming. Thanks.
If you don’t have the 20mil you will notice right away. Wheelies will be hard.
@@JasonPerrinRCVlogs Just tried it. This truck is fun! I did put the punch to 5 and breaking to 50%. It doesn't feel slow for me and the stock electronics seem to be pretty good enough for my liking. I'll just put the 23t pinion in there. It can do a wheelie from a dead start. I'm fine with that. I was treating it nice, but then I went to backflip it off the chain link fence at work like I do with the xmaxx. Nailed it three times and the rear bumper just go scratched because it was on concrete. Not a lot of people would do that to their $900 truck on the first run 😂👍.
STOP SAYING GUYS🤣🤣
The "guys" does not bother me...it's the "ummm". OmG 😖😖 Otherwise excellent video
ENOUGH WITH THE UMM UMM UMM UMM UMM UMM UMM UMM !!!!!!!!!!
False you cant wear down a motor unless you overheat it or bearing explodes otherwise they are pretty have a lifetime life
Surchaufeur yep
What are you referring to?
Just buy a Traxxas Xmaxxxxx
