I had this same set up. Never had a chance to use waygate I also had Elixir of Drawing and the Anomaly was ‘discount 1 mana from all cards in hand a turn’ of course so I was basically just slamming down cards to prevent overdraw. Plus the Merchant card heist made extra turns kind of weak compared to other cards.
It really was not in his best interest since he chose to use Tall Tales on Sarad. He had a dead card in his hand all the time and needed as many cards remaining to have tempo for early pressure.
Open the Waygate isn't even a particularly good card by itself. It costs 5 mana, so your "extra turn" is just an extra turn of attacks and 5 free mana. Good, sure, but completely unnecessary here.

Kristian Emil Kjærgaard I think that Max means that he played about 50 games suboptimally because he didn't know this, then he found out, not that he has determined it himself using statistical analysis. I suspect that he always avoided using the hero power with 0-cost cards in hand and has nothing like the sample size that you suggest to allow him to make the deduction himself.

I got something like this but with Coldarra drake, and that one card that gives you a quest reward, so every time it was available, i'd get the murloc, discount everything to 0, empty my hand, play the murloc to refill, then discount all the murlocs to 0. I also had some other cards for card generation, but I don't remember what they were. It was too much even for the final boss

I once played a burning wit deck, got stargazing and the minion that’s 5 mana dragon you can use your hero power any number of times a turn, and the treasure that replaces all minions in your deck with a minion. Finally I got one of the arch mage that gives you fireballs, it was boring but so easy

What would have happened if you had picked Whizbang in your second tavern? Would it have replaced your entire deck with a random Whizbang deck? Or just stayed as a useless minion?

The best possible deck in the new dungeon goes to Paladin. All you need to do is take Ring the Bells! and reduce its cost to zero at Bob's. I didn't expect it either, but the echo of it costs zero as well, so you can limitlessly buff a minion.
I think some of the passives need rebalancing, especially Robes of Gaudiness. It needs a nerf like instead of halving the cost, just reduce their cost by (3) but no less than (1).
Trump, this is an intervention. We're worried about you. Please seek help, there's more to life than squeezing every last drop of value out of your hero power!

I got stargazing with burning wit and beat the bosses with 1/2 inspire squires that were stealthed

I literally did the same thing without the guy who adds a random card everytime you use the hero power.
Belnaara has an Emerald Reaver to trip his own passive, ideally to reduce damage taken (with good timing... poor AI).
