I like The Crunge , studio version, its funny. Led Zeppelin are very versatile and they just wanted to have fun.
The Crunge is fabulous, IMO. It was meant to be both a tribute, and a parody, of James Brown. Along with Trampled Underfoot, among the funkiest Zep tracks they ever did. It was recorded during a time when they were stretching their wings after the masterful but heavy 4th album. They were having fun, showing their diverse roots, and moving wherever their mood took them. One thing is for sure: Zep wasn't put in the same genre of music as Black Sabbath or Deep Purple after Houses of the Holy.....I can't imagine either of those bands venturing into D'yer Maker, The Crunge, or Rain Song.
Trampled Under Foot has a partnership feeling of Zeppelin with Stevie Wonder on keyboards!!!
That woulda been phenomenal if he sat in!!!
@@norbertgreise7408 those seasoned studio musicians - Page and Jones - could play anything....any style, any genre.
Dude, I've been with you since the beginning. Yours is the only reaction channel I like. I love your knowledge of music history and your respect for the artist by not talking over the top of the music. Keep up the great work. I always smile when I see something new from you.
Cool, thanks!
I never knew they did this live! Wow! I loved it here!!
They could jam forever and never play the same thing twice
Brother! I'm huge Zep fan. Since I was probably in fifth or sixth grade. That said. I have actually seen them live in 1977 in L.A. it was awesome! But to be honest I can't say I've loved everything they've done. Especially after "In through the out door. You have every right to like or dislike what ever you want. The fact that you have liked and loved so much of the music I've grown up with gives me so much respect for you.
Sorry, after "In through the out door " wasn't my favorite but some good songs. Not much after that.
Where's that confounded bridge?
It's over the hills and far away.
It fell into THE OCEAN ✌️
@@skydog6376 it must have been a bridge in the US that's been neglected since 1973. LOL!
There is a Jimmy Dance video. On it, he is dancing to the Crunge for about 15 seconds at a show in 72.
Soul brother, regardless what anybody on your channel may say about how you listen or respond to the music you react to is totally ok if its not quite your cup of tea or not.. And for you to give all the time listening to LED and others is appropriated by me and im sure many others❤👍...... Ty for the the time you spend to react to some awesome music that was in my opinion some of the best at its time and still has me in awww.. If not for the black mans Blues influencing others.. Led zep and others sure woulda not had their sound for sure..❤
I don't get your irritation with the studio version of The Crunge. I think it is brilliant and one of my favorite LZ tunes. Bonham and JPJ absolutely kill it.
I like the record version. I like it clean like that....Love this song.
Always great to see a reaction from you! Doesn’t matter if you like the song or not! Much respect for your opinion!✌️
I appreciate that
Soul Train Bro have you reacted to Tea for One by Led Zeppelin?
matt harvey...STB did a Tea For One reaction a few months back. He loved it and said it was one of the best Zep songs he's ever heard...
I think John Bonham must of had some influence on this song because he preferred to listen to Motown and funk music while at home
And Linda told Rolling Stone Magazine she listened to Led Zeppelin!!!
Bonzo loved funk, R&B, and Motown and you can hear it in his drumming in most all LZ’s songs for sure.
@@Veritas-TheGoader Indeed yes!
Jimmy posted about that hate of Rolling Stone today on his Instagram....saying on this day in 1971, Zeppelin performed at the Berkeley Community Theater and the audience was rather tepid. He speculated that there might have been several reasons...like they were too stoned out...but one of the reasons he gives is that they had just received a hatchet job review by Rolling Stone. It still hurts, even after half a century.
Theremin I believe. I’m not that huge on the Crunge either but I can occasionally jam to it. I enjoyed this version. Rolling Stone had no choice but to pull a 180. Zeppelin kept growing and influencing subsequent generations of fans. Their star never waned. You can only deny reality for so long.
Like James Brown said,” Make it Funky!” I can dig it
My God what a great rhythm section.....what a pocket Bonham laid down, and JPJ was just IN it.......and that was the theremin... one of Jimmy’s favorite toys....every time he played it, he had a big smile on his face. And this is Evelyn...not the bearded guy at the left...😏😁
JPJ was awesome in Them Crooked Vultures more recently.
Ha! Houses of The Holy is probably my favorite album of theirs... but The Crunge is most always skipped over. But I have learned to accept it more over the years.
a FAR better live version of the Crunge is found at the 3:17:00 mark from their show in Seattle March 21, 1975 with JPJ flying on the bass and of course Bonham. Fantastic and is definitely worth the listen. Google it.
Now thats James Brown Funky dig it!!
Spent 40 years looking for the confounded bridge
Imagine if you can hearing LZ from their beginning, the changes they put us thru, was all amazing but was almost like every album was WTF now?? lol We all reacted differently some got the new album right away and some it took a while...you get used to a certain thing makes it difficult to switch gears when it changes....
Hi, Evelyn here. Well, that’s the key word, fanatical. Zeppelin is my favorite band, and even I don’t care for EVERY song they ever did. Funny thing is...even THEY wouldn’t expect any of their fans to like EVERY song they ever did. That would actually be kinda weird, as they did so many different styles. I don’t like all of the Beatles either. Sacrilege, I know, right? I agree with you about Stairway. But the odd thing is, I can’t seem to get enough of watching it live.....Go figure. I think it’s the smile that Robert gives Jimmy towards the beginning.....
The next video footage is Immigrant Song from 1972, but it’s less than 5 minutes. Then Song Remains the Same, so it depends on whether or not you want to do the whole movie. If you want to skip SRTS, then it’s Earl’s Court from 1975.
I would suggest listen to the Blueberry Hill concert before moving on to Earl's Court.
nelliebly yes, but STB keeps saying his wants the video first and then perhaps go back to audio bootlegs. Isn’t Blueberry Hill audio only?
@@w.geoffreyspaulding6588 yes. I wrote that before the video got to the end.
That was cool.
Thank God, it's about time you somewhat embrace "The Crunge." I knew you had it in you, Wayne!
Are you wearing a shirt of you!?
That is so egotistically awesome!!!!!! 😎
Theramin is eerie sounds incorporated in WLL in all versions.
Side note: Watched a few interviews one with Jimmy and another Eddie Kramer about how they put the song together. Also found all the isolated tracks and a video on how Jimmy & Eddie engineered it(@CosmoMusicTube) and @RobertCassard Blow Up the Music -now it sounds so different to me bc I notice everything whereas I only heard most of it subliminally before.
There’s a video version of them doing James Brown between WLL & Black Dog Live Earls Court 75. Sounds alot like this.
If you start doing boot legs yeah man 3.21.75 is a great one the first 4 songs are epic performance. Encore with communication into heart breaker is great. Heartbreaker page explodes
Theramin not mellotron
I've never heard a good rendition of "Happy Birthday" in my life, from anybody. Plant just proved it can't be done!! 😂😂😂
Keep it up bro!
Always!
The word you might be thinking of might be schadenfreude
Which is a German word meaning taking pleasure in the misfortune of others. Which is what Led Zeppelin must have reveled in at the time concerning Rolling Stone.
It was so bad it was kind of comical. Like the Coyote and Roadrunner, or Rocky and Bullwinkle against Boris and Natasha, or Maxwell Smart aagainst Chaos.
The last full concert you do before the 02 Arena should be Knebworth.
Love Stairway, even though I've heard it a thousand times. Same for Hotel California. I can't think of a song I've overheard enough to get me to no longer like it. Led Zeppelin is the greatest, in my humble opinion, but even I don't like every song of theirs. Cheers.
Isn't this a homage to James Brown?
Yes, Page was a huge fan of Jimmy Nolen, James Brown's guitarist.
A theremin. An electronic instrument that is played without touching it. I used to wonder what on earth Page was doing moving his hand about in TSRTS when I was a kid. I just thought it looked cool!
Immigrant song from 1972 has a video that’s easy to find on YT. From 1972 Australia there’s also a video of Rock and Roll. Other than that, I don’t think there’s any post-1970 video that’s not TSRTS until you get to Earl’s Court
Erica Video of Immigrant Song from The SYDNEY Cricket Ground February 1972.
Haha! When I saw this pop up, I said to myself, “What is UP with Wayne? He HATES this song!” I’m glad you decided to do the live version of a song you hated. Using past tense even before I watch your video, because I’m assuming you like it now?
Sarah weren't you one of many insisting i give it another go?
Soul Train Bro No, sir! I am completely indifferent to it, and I was fine with you skipping it. 🤷🏼♀️
Second singer most likely John Bohnam. He was known to do backup vocals here and there.
It's Jimmy.
Tektoniks Architects when I saw LZ in 1973, Bonham sang background on a couple of songs. Jimmy didn’t even have a mic. That’s why I figured it was JB.
Reckon you spot on.
Yeah it's always Jimmy that's singing the backup vocals on WLL. Not Bonham, who would sing along on 'The Ocean'.
The therimon Jimmy’s favorite hand instrument
Yep!!...well maybe 😂
Lol I think I can think of another hand instrument he liked.
Julie and Sam
Handy Andy when he's randy.
Jimmy getting down w/ the Theremin.
I agree, The Crunge takes a little getting used to, but the Funk is there and it showcases all of the band,, with a prog rock mix too. If you dig ELP, then there should be happiness. Groove.
Idk if there was a night where they actually hit it. Maybe March 21 75, that's prob their best show from the tour
Yeah man if you want to start breaking down JPJ and bonzo, def check out DAC and this part of WLL. His bass work on OTHFA live and IMTOD from 75 is amazing
Is it the "Boomerang Effect"?
I wasn't a fan of "The Crunge" at all when the Houses of the Holy album first came out. It has become a total flip flop and one of my favorites from the record.
Has anybody seen the bridge?
No, I ain't seen the bridge.
Where's that confounded bridge?
😻
This sounds A LOT like they'd started writing the song on tour and decided to stick it in the middle of Whole Lotta Love to jam on. Never heard it before!
It's a tribute to James Brown, have fun with it.
the Crunge that Zeppelin did on the '75 tour from Seattle was way better than this. Google "Led Zeppelin Live in Seattle, Wa - March 21 1975 (Cuztard Pi Matrix). It's worth the listen 3:08:40
brutal
Irritation factor? Zeppelin? I live for Zeppelin!
Licking stick. If you know what I mean. Lol
Which bootleg is this from? I'm guessing a 75 show?
12/3/75 long beach arena
I think you've got some weenies on your list, haha. I'm a huge Zeppelin fan but there are a few songs that aren't that great. Still one of my favorite bands so it's all good. That worst Zep songs review was hilarious, sometimes they missed the mark live- drugs may have played a part.
STB. You'll find very few live concert videos by Zeppelin. I did send you a two-part link for the '75 Earls Court Show and the 1977 Seattle show. But what's next? Here you go:

August 31, 1969 Lewisville, TX
Texas International Pop Festival
Setlist:
Train Kept a Rollin', I Can't Quit You Baby, Dazed and Confused, You Shook Me, How Many More Times (medley incl. Suzie Q, Eyesight To The Blind, "Lemon Song", Bye Bye Baby (Baby Good-Bye), Communication Breakdown
Notes:
Portions of this show are filmed for a documentary which airs a few times in the early 1970s. Several 8mm & 16mm amateur films also exist.
Press: The Vanguard of an expected 100,000 rock fans were already encamped Friday in the sprawling federal park lands around Garza-Litlle Elm Reservoir, Lewisville, Texas (near Dallas). The park is near the Dallas International Motor Speedway, where a three-day festival opens today. Among the attractions at the Texas festival were Janis Joplin, Herbi Mann, Led Zeppelin, Johnny Winter and Tony Joe White.
It's not the full concert, you won't find one. But it's about 10 minutes of their highly raved concerts that took part of a festival in '69. Enjoy.
Yeah...if it's your channel you can do what you want. That lady needs to get a grip
Killer Whales like this version.
Interesting enough, I cannot stand "Hot Dog" studio version, but enjoy it live.🤙🏽
i think hot dog is cool lol
I don't like Hot Dog either. Not the studio version or live!
And you thought The Sugar Hill gang invented Rap, Wrong, Tribute to James Brown.
well this is unexpected haha
Plant's voice was constantly strained and broken since 1972, 1973. By 1975 all of his upper range was gone. It was mostly raspy wooos, metallic sounding forced screams and voice cracks from there on out. Still a charismatic presence on stage.
Amy gota triple point
John Bonham did the backup vocals with Robert....as did Jason at the O2....which made it even more cool.
Wait they played The Crunge at 02 Arena?
Jimmy always sang on WLL
@@ginger4141 no
No, they didn’t play the Crunge at the O2....I meant that John sang back up on Whole Lotta Love and did other backup vocals. And Jason did the same at the O2. Robert has talked many times about what a family of singers John came from, and what a good voice he had. And Jason, he said, followed in the family’s tradition and has a good voice. John’s sister was (perhaps still is) evidently a professional singer, and John’s parents evidently had great singing voices. So the whole Bonham family were singers. Jimmy sang at the very beginning of Zeppelin’s run, but I haven’t seen any footage of him singing from 1970 onward. If any of you have knowledge of footage of him singing after 1969, please post it here.
Ok I didn't think so, but double checking.
Never cared for this song. Haven't heard it enough to equate it with funk.
Nothing wrong with the Crunge. I mean it's not like it's Thank You or Tea for One, two I always skip.
Don't forget the other skip songs such as The Lemon Song, Since I Been Loving You, Ten Years Gone, Ramble On and What is and What Should Never Be.
Alicia I wouldn't skip those songs (some of their best) except maybe Ramble On.
Not a very good performance in my opinion.
It's ok not to like Dyer Maker....Yuck.
First time I've said it out loud, but it's also my least favorite song from them too. I don't skip it, but I'm always just waiting for the next song. Peace!
Led zeppelin is my favorite band forever and always. The Crunge however is one I always skip. Annoying boring and stupid.
