    Nice. I really dig the electric start for a homebuilt rig that's a nice touch

    I was a bit worried with a large number of fake reviews but I am very pleased with the results. Bit of background, ruclips.net/user/postUgkxmKn8dCAXovWn8_cLYoosGLVrVrpwlIMc I need to split approximately 1.5 cords of wood and didn't feel like destroying my back. I purchased this anticipating to have a few issues splitting wood but have only come across a few logs of elm where the stringy nature of elm made it more difficult to split. Overall its not a necessarily fast process but it also isn't a very arduous one either. I came and went fairly often to do different tasks but once I stayed and got into a system I could easily split my pieces in a fairly timely manner.

    Well done, really great job including the information needed to follow your process without any unnecessary filler info. Quick, to the point, good camera coverage of what you were describing and we'll demonstrated. Thanks for the video man 👍

    Great job on this splitter. Some really thick steel, nice to build it strong so you don’t get twisting.

    Built solid, gonna last the ages. Good idea upgrading the motor.
    The wood was split into excellent size sections too.
    I'd hire you to put together creations like this for me in the future if I ever get the money.

    A good solid foundation is the start of great things. Nice idea to keep it simple and have that center beam as the structural core of the splitter.

    Hello, Always fun to see new video from you. One of my favorite innovations in log splitting (well actually two) are the ram in the middle so you are splitting on the forward stroke and the back stroke. The other I think works well for most machines is to fabricate a receiver (such as your two upright cutters could be flat plate that the wedges drop down over) so that your wedge can be changed out to any configuration you like with whatever you are splitting. Easy to replace a damaged wedge and you can gear it to the amount of power available. Think vertical trailer hitch (or two one on each side of the I beam) that your wedge can drop onto with a tube in tube. Big stuff can be split with a multi wedge etc. etc. Always fun to ride along with your ideas. Take care. Doug

      i like the receiver idea, i may go that way if i'm not happy with the multi wedge. thanks!

    looks good, you can always add a piece to your push plate to make it run closer to your knives.

      +MissouriOldTimer your right! Why is the answer always sitting right in front of me but I can't see it? Thanks! Love it, I can even make the plate have blocks that push right in between the blades. Cheers, thanks for watching and commenting

    • @sammax4245
      @sammax4245 6 лет назад

      @REDNIC79 Cut the push plate that it can go between the blades, if you add blocks the wood will stuck on those blocks.

    I like the idea of your 6-way wedge! But if you increase your return line to a 1 inch or a 3/4 inch as for your intake 1/2 inch line you would have increased the speed of your ram! Good Luck on getting your wedge dialed in!!

    Missouri Ol Timer said it. And your type of wood will differ. But overall, pretty fair. I use to have a straight six powered, now a 3 point pto on a 125hp tractor. I'm looking again tho. Because I got a big hydraulic power unit. And winter is coming. LoL

    Some logs with a 3 branches could be tough to split. To something new its worth trying.

  • @roadhandviking2741
    @roadhandviking2741 6 лет назад

    Just my opinion; I would have used one heavy center blade and arranged two horizontal knives on an "X" shape off the main wedge. That way there is no choke point for wood to get bound up, but you still get a multi-split

    Rednic, my own home built 8hp Honda with a 2" ram is a monster and easily pushes 24" oak. Your 15hp with 3/4 and 1 1/8" steel is killer strength. My blade comes from a loader bucket and is tempered steel, not the easiest to grind an edge into. Are your blades cold rolled and do they maintain an edge? Not that they lose shape at all : )

    • @REDNIC79
      @REDNIC79  7 лет назад +1

      yes they are just cold rolled...and have maintained so far anyhow.........and yeah she's a beast !

    • @charliegrey6200
      @charliegrey6200 7 лет назад

      1055 steel works great you can get them fairly cheap from your local bobcat dealer or ebay. Just purchase bobcat cutting edges. They dont come sharp but grinding only sucks but so bad.

    My question for you.. the 3/4 thick blade how wide and long did you cut it... and the top cross blade 3/4 thick? And how wide and long did you make that one as well?

    • @REDNIC79
      @REDNIC79  6 лет назад

      +Kenneth P. Wise the width on the 3/4 vehicle blades is around 4in the horizontal blade is 1/2" thick and approximately 8x12....basically it was made to split the average log size around here

    • @KennethPWise
      @KennethPWise 6 лет назад

      Ok 3/4 think by 4 inch wide by how long? I'm guessing the total length of the vertical piece 16 inches with 6 inches through the i beam or 24 inches?
      I'm trying to copy your blades if i can. ... I'm on hangouts i sent you a message on it.. can we talk one on one about it? My email is wisewelding@netzero.net or Facebook Ken p.wise.. look me up. . Because I can't find you.... i really talk more with you about it... please look me up. ... Facebook page. Hog wild for Piglets or Ken P. Wise will find me..... thanks again.

    • @REDNIC79

      +Tom Reed the only reason it was done that way is that it does not relay on the welds for strength. It can come apart or break off due too bad welds

  • @drivin69
    @drivin69 7 лет назад

    i wish you luck but i think when your splitting hard wood and you hit a knot gone twist that like a pretzel ....i could be wrong and i hope i am but if you want that to work i would brace the wedge up with guests even twisting the i beam i would think about... but if all you split is birch and pine the soft woods you should be good... i may be wrong though never no...

    Like your wedge setup allot, build this 6 ton splitter 1979, rebuild to 25 ton 2013 with all same metal. ruclips.net/video/E_SBPhWm8nA/видео.html Something you may want to do to yours is weld an thick plate to I beam about 1 ft long or longer under wedge on vertical part of I beam. Most wood split here is red oak, white oak, hickory and pecan. Boom with 12 v winch and timber dogs saves back big time. Also I use only marine gas with shatbil added absolutely, learned the hard way
