Polish MP thrown out of parliament after dousing Jewish Hanukkah menorah

- Polish MP Grzegorz Braun has caused outrage after using a fire extinguisher to put out a Hanukkah menorah in the parliament on Tuesday.
Video footage showed Braun taking the extinguisher, creating a cloud, and prompting security to clear the area as he targeted the candles.
The Polish lawmaker from the Konfederacja party labelled Judaism as a "satanic cult" when challenged by others at the scene.
"Those who take part in acts of Satanic worship should be ashamed," he said.
Braun later took to the podium, defended his actions as "spontaneous," invited lawmakers to a theological debate, and claimed he was restoring "normality".
Szymon Hołownia, speaker of the Sejm Polish parliamentary chamber, excluded Braun from the session and planned to inform prosecutors about his actions.

Poland is not a Jewish majority state. Poland has long been a Roman Catholic majority state. That said, their parliament operates as a secular institution. The Menorah has no place in that institution.
After the Germans committed genocide on Jews, Poles, Serbs and Gypsies, all of the German symbols were banned in public space in majority of countries. Now, when Jews commit genocide on Palestinians, why are their symbols glorified??? Why are they worshiped in a Catholic country's parliament just the day a new government is established?

Braun was upset because of the recent removal of the christian cross from the wall of the parliament chamber. There is a double standard in this situation. Why display a menhora in the parliament hall when the cross has been banned?

Lighting up the hanukkah candles is a religous ceremony, even though we are historically a christian country which is why the cross is on the wall there never was a mass or any other christian ceremony in the parliament building.
Polish parliament is not a religious institution. If it is to become a religious institution, it should also celebrate Christmas, Pentecost, Corpus Christi, Easter, Moslem Ramadan, Orthodox Passover, Buddhist Buddha Purnima and African Kwanza. Exceptions should not be made for only one religion because this would be religious discrimination. Mr Braun is right.

Te obrządki to gest polityczny w stosunku do żydów zainicjowany w 2006 przez Lecha Kaczyńskiego i jest to zapalane w sejmie lub w Pałacu prezydenckim każdego roku za wyjątkiem roku 2019 przez pandemie. Osobiście uważam że nie powinno być ani krzyża ani pół księżyca ani innego symbolu religijnego, ale politycy z tego nie zrezygnują bo to przynosi korzyści polityczne które płyną z przypodobania się grupom wyznaniowym. Maybe the candle thing should have been done in a church or some Jewish owned building - it should not have been pushed on members of the Parliament because if you do it for one religion you should do it for all - I think muslims have about 69 special events per year and Hindus about 459 per year, then there is the Buddhist and Cat worshipers too. I think he has a valid point especially when Poland is a Christian nation. Thinking about it, this can't be so cool for any muslims and the same would go if they started slaughtering cows, or whatever they do, for the Jews to see. I agree with what he did. The Parliament building is for politics and not to promote a religious sect.

Poland has a law which prohibits interupting religious rituals, leftist mps namely Joanna Scheuring-Wielgus did just that, and not in the parliment building but in an actual church during a mass, and she even got aquitted for it, she didn't face any consequences. But when a right wing mp extinguishes some candles in a parliment building by doing which he brought the fact that it was even happening in the parliment building to public attention and everyone loses their minds. Bad thing is not a single person is going to want to stop having hanukkah in the parliment building because they don't want to be associated with him and his actions.

Poland is over 70% Roman Catholic (about 10 - 15 years ago it was 90%) so lighting of the Jewish menorah is not a Polish tradition. If there are any Polish Jewish parliamentarians then they should be able to light their candles in their chapel but not in the main hall of the parliament. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that the Israeli Knesset is not celebrating, in any way, a Polish Christmas, so why should the Poles celebrate a Jewish one? Maybe the candle thing should have been done in a church or some Jewish owned building - it should not have been pushed on members of the Parliament because if you do it for one religion you should do it for all - I think muslims have about 69 special events per year and Hindus about 459 per year, then there is the Buddhist and Cat worshipers too. I think he has a valid point especially when Poland is a Christian nation. Thinking about it, this can't be so cool for any muslims and the same would go if they started slaughtering cows, or whatever muslims do, for the Jews to see. I agree with what he did. Interesting topic. I am not a professor of religion or an academic lecturer, and I do not know whether it's true or not. But, Grzegorz Braun protested against the Chanukka holiday/celebration, its origins, directly related customs and practices used in the past during this festival. He claimed in reference to scientific literature that this special Jewish holiday refers to the racism and intolerance practiced in many ways by Jews, as well as extreme behavior practiced, e.g. murdering and humiliating in all aspects people who are not Jews. In a broad generalization, he claimed that Chanukkah is based on racism, Satanism and promoting hatred towards people who are not Jews. I understand that there are and were always bad people in our history who caused various religions to get bad reviews. Nothing and no one is perfect. However, if it is true🤔 and the Chanukka really promotes racism, satanism, murder, intolerance, directly or not, this way or other? In this case, I am not surprised that Grzegorz Braun protested. In Catholicism, but also in Western culture, we should firmly fight against the propagation of extreme nationalism and hatred. No matter which country or people do it😔. While he used stupid words and maybe wrong methodology, many Poles agree with the fact that no religious ceremonies should be held in the Polish parliament. This is not a place for it. Despite many Poles being religious we still believe that parliament's work should be separated from any religion's influence.

It may not be a cross, which is a religious symbol, but if you're going to ban a Menorah then a Christmas tree has no place in the Parliament building either. In any event Braun should have been immediately arrested for discharging a dry chemical fire extinguisher in a public place, endangering people's health when there wasn't a fire. I assume whoever put up the Menorah had permission to do so. If not, then I agree that it shouldn't have been there.
MP Braun is an outstanding Polish patriot who fights for freedom for all nations. What others are afraid to even think about, he does with the curtain open. Great man.
