I have one of these for my GSD and it was a life saver when she was young! Training her to use it was easy, just do it slowly. Go potty Before you treadmill too :)
This was so much better than so many other "professionals" out there. Thank you! This was amazing and exactly what I needed! I am disabled and I finally raised enough money to get a treadmill for my dog. Normally she gets hours of fetch in my small apartment (I didn't know I would be disabled when I got her or I wouldn't have gotten a super playful pittie). I do get her tired often but I think it is just because she is so used to not exercising much anymore. And she is a princess so she hated walks outdoors as a pup if it was slightly too hot or slightly too cold lol. But I'm so happy I can finally give her something. But she is scared of everything new and I saw so many people just dragging dogs onto the treadmill and I knew that that wouldn't work.
TY !! You are a really great teacher of humans for training of K9s. I hope you are VERY successful and prosperous as Ks desperately need their humans to understand and treat them as righteously as they deserve for their unconditional love and loyalty to their human pack family.. truly cannot say or thank you enough. So glad you have not missed your calling or ignored your giftings with our fabulous furry friends!!!
Excellent affirmation that I was training my 2 year old Malinois correctly on the treadmill. I found a once used Merax treadmill online and it is exactly like the Pacer, without the guardrails which I can build and attach myself. My Mal loves this and took to it on the first try. You are an excellent instructor and thank you for the tips.
Very helpful video. We just purchased a mini dog pacer for our girl. She has IVDD and needs to keep her core & back strong. (We need to train her properly to use the treadmill to avoid injuries.) Your training is better than the manufacturer. Thank You!
Great video i have the exact treadmill. My dog trainer turned me on to this. I have MS and my husband is handicapped also. My Athena is a trained mobility and PTSD dog . She’s a power house love this tradmill every thing you said is on target
Thank you awesome!!! I appreciate how you explained it step by step!!! We just got a human treadmill and wanted to give my fur baby and myself some exercise!!!!
This is exactly what I was looking for - I have access to a small-sized under-desk treadmill and a chunky chihuahua I've adopted. He needs more activity than I can make time for, to get him back down to a healthy weight, so I figured I'd just make a safety rail for the treadmill and train him to use it (in addition to the real walkies and his directed play and training times). Hopefully a second daily walk for a bit longer on the treadmill with tight diet control will help him loose the 2-3lbs he needs to in order to get down to healthy size. :)
My Guy, thank you for sharing your Wisdom. Great Content! I currently enrolled into Animal Behavior College to pursue my dream(Animal Behavior College) and I watch your channel every day. Once again thank you for sharing your wisdom and knowledge, you’re a artist bro. Much love from Seattle.
Thank you very much for this video. I'm thinking of getting one of those treadmills and wasn't sure how my boys would cope with it. Having seen your demonstration and heard your advice, I think it'll be great for them.
First love your videos and method of training. Would like to see a video introducing a more reluctant dog to the treadmill. I am now trying to slow introduce my Dobie to the dog Pacer. He is great at getting on and off on command. But if I get this wrong he will not cooperate. Also he gets bored easily. Thanks for informational videos great job.
This is a really helpful video, I have a dog pacer and whilst Max is happy to walk on the treadmill, he looks totally miserable head low ears back, when I up the pace he continues , never attempts to jump off but he looks as if he hates it. As always your video are very informative Thanks from the UK
Thank you for sharing this video! Your instruction and demonstration were very clear and easy to follow. In addition to dealing with extreme weather temperatures in the Mid-Atlantic, I don't have the time or stamina to exercise my dog as much as either of us would like. I want to give her a lot more exercise than she is currently getting so I need to teach her to use the treadmill. My first attempt putting her on the treadmill was unsuccessful. She was very fearful and jumped off immediately. Hopefully I can find a bungee leash and the side panels/blinders you used. I think they are must haves.
Upstate Canine Academy I think Rock is ready for next step.....turning treadmill on 🤞🏽. I may need to MacGyver the human treadmill to suit his needs, will see what you think.
Nice! This is a awesome, actually am doing a video of training dog's during winter time, different exercises tho but tread mill is great, just another point of proving that there's no excuse of not activating dog's just because it's winter :) And to other that's watching, there is treadmills that is not connected to electricity. I forgot the english word for it but the dog is basically making it move by itself. So if you have any concerns about a electric automatic treadmill like this, you could get one that only moves if the dog does! It's just a matter of opinion and ofcourse, your dog response to it
I have a dog who is trained on a treadmill, but we didnt really use it over the winter because he was able to get so much exercise in other ways; now that summer is ramping back up in phoenix, im trying to get him back on the treadmill and he is really fighting me hard; i dont quite understand this because he used to love it. Now whenever i grab his lead he runs and hides in his kennel :( any tips?
I work at a dog kennel with both the owners working dogs and publics' dogs on holiday boarding. We have a treadmill and would love to start using it on the working dogs cause they're unfortunately showing stereotypic behaviour, so thanks for this video! Also, do you have any tips for enrichment that can't be destroyed by Malinois? They're not allowed Kongs since they use it for positive reinforcement and search training.
I've been working my dog for about a month now on the dog pacer. He's a 7 month Malinois. Is 30 min.twice a day too much? He's very high energy and very drivey... He also does advanced ob work with me and does bitework as Well. Thanks for any comments. Love your training vids. They have been so helpful
I have a 2 1/2 malinois. I walk her twice a day for about ah hour each time, and even then she'll still be bouncing off the walls sometimes. Trust me, these dogs are high energy and need a lot of exercise
I would check with your Vet about the 2 times a day at a half hour clip each time. You may have high energy but you have to be careful with the growth plates on puppies!
Hi Tom, I am on a limited budget and I really am unable to save each month. I do have a human treadmill from before. You mentioned a treadmill, but didn't go any further. I have a JackRat + mix (I got him from a shelter so I don't know what else) and I can play with him enough, but I think he needs more. How can I use the treadmill that I have? Love your videos! It seems like whenever I have a thought at home, soon enough you address it. Its uncanny. 😃👍🐶
I use a human one. I just stand with the dog while he's going. This video gave me the idea to turn the treadmill around so that I'm in the front, which might make her want to go longer on it. It's crazy how quickly hard-headed dogs like a terrier get used to it. There are tons of videos on using human one you can watch to see which works for you.
I just got a dogpacer for my 1 year old wheaten. He’s super high energy and strong. Will using the treadmill increase his stamina and strength? I really want to teach him to be calmer and less reactive.
Do you know of any human treadmills that have a long enough walking plateform? I can't afford a dog pacer. Even a $600 one. I didn't know if you use any human treadmills. But thought I'd ask. If not, can you measure that walking plateform so I know what length of plateform to look for? Would you say a few inches shorter would be ok for a large dog? I have a service dog and I am able to correctly exercise my current service dog but he's 6 yrs old. I am worried with my health declaine and when I get my new prospect. Anyone that uses human treadmills for large breed dog, this question goes to ya'll too. Edited to add: I say a long enough plateform because a dog's gait is much longer then ours and most humsn treadmills aren't long enough for a dog.
He states in the video you can even use a human treadmill. Perhaps if you adjust the bouncy leash and work in small increments as he suggested the alternative treadmill might work just as well?
Hey Thom, I'd like to have your opinion on something. I have a working line GSD at home, he's 8 months old and his protective instincts are getting out of control. I suspect the problem is he either doesn't trust me and feels like he has to take charge of everything, or he's anxious. When we're working together, he's very engaged and easy to work with. Problems come when there's people, other dogs or sometimes cars around. Do you have any exercises or a video that you would recommend? I'm not sure what to do next.
@@tomdavisofficial Thank you for taking the time to answer. So well there's a few things. 1. He bit my aunt when she came to hug me. We were very lucky that he only grazed her but he aimed for the neck. That was a first and very sudden. He drew blood. 2. He will throw himself at other dogs sometimes. Especially if he's just hanging out with me (not actively engaging). If we're playing fetch he's more likely to ignore them. 3. He will also get very restless if someone walks behind us while we're taking a walk. He might lunge at them if they get too close. I love him to death but I don't know what to do anymore, done 3 different private trainers already. I know he's far from a lost cause . He's super sweet with me and my family. Smartest dog I've ever known. What would you recommend?
I hope to be a dog handler in the police. They normally use malinois, shepherds, retrievers, spaniels and collies; introducing the dog to a treadmill with multiple programs could be handy if I or the dog get hurt. It's not a smart move to allow a dog Walker to walk a trained k9.
I have one of these for my GSD and it was a life saver when she was young! Training her to use it was easy, just do it slowly. Go potty Before you treadmill too :)
Thank you! I love that you explained this step by step. You make life easier for us dog owners that are trying to be better!!
Thank you Michelle! I appreciate the feedback!!!

Im in Michigan, and I'm excited to get our treadmill delivered. My GSD needs a bit more exercise than I can give her in bad weather.
I saw an ad for one of these in our newspaper for $300! My dog def needs this!
THANKS, I JUST BOUGHT A TREADMILL FOR MY DOG 8 MONTHS OLD, INCREDIBLE!!!
MY DOG IS ALSO A MALINOIS AND HE IS IDENTOCAL TO THE ONE ON THE VIDEO

Yeeeeah Finny Boy! So pumped to see him doing well! Thanks for this awesome vid Tom. You guys ROCK!
He's doing great, everyone loves him (once he gets to know them)!
I must be SUPER lucky, I introduced my GSD pup to the treadmill & she loves it! Great video!
Yesss, it's awesome!
Best video! Thank you for all the great tips.
Great video i have the exact treadmill. My dog trainer turned me on to this. I have MS and my husband is handicapped also. My Athena is a trained mobility and PTSD dog . She’s a power house love this tradmill every thing you said is on target
Malinois are one of my favorite dog breeds. This is a gorgeous dog!
He is very pretty! Thanks for the feedback Adam !
Really glad you agree with the treadmill, I am definitely getting one, just got a 64 lb pitbull pup
I also have a young Belgian Malinois. This is very useful. I will start her on my treadmill and see how she does. She is very high energy and smart.
Yup! You will be needing to get that pup tired! Best of luck!
Thank you awesome!!! I appreciate how you explained it step by step!!! We just got a human treadmill and wanted to give my fur baby and myself some exercise!!!!
Thanks! Great information I need one for my dog!

sold, subscribed, love this for my young Belgian Malinois especially as a person with a disability
Great Video! Thanks so much! Thinking of getting one for my Cavapoo who wants to chew up everything including the baseboards in my home.

Helped me know how to get my dog to walk on a treadmill.
Thank you so much! I tried this with my Aussie, Sammy. Worked perfectly!
Woot woot!!!! 🎉🎉 THANK YOU!!!! Much needed here!
This will work good for you!!
Upstate Canine Academy I think Rock is ready for next step.....turning treadmill on 🤞🏽. I may need to MacGyver the human treadmill to suit his needs, will see what you think.
Just bought a treadmill. Haven't used yet. Thanks for help
Just starting with the treadmill with my dogs, I got a used human treadmill for $60usd 😅 THANKS for your video 👍🏼

Yes great idea, I think you are thinking of a slate mill!
Awesome content as always keep up the good work 😀
Thanks for the feedback!As always!

Once again a great video! Thank you!!!
Thx for the guidance
Thanks. Really great information

Interesting Tom. Thank you : ) Maybe give the dog a tele to watch : )
Can you show a video with a dog learning this who is super scared of it?

Deb, do you mean that you walk in front of him on the tread mill yourself or sit infront like Tom is doing. Mine goes down to 1 mile, how about yours?
It;s almost as if I can read your mind! YES use the human one, start it just how I did here with FInn!
Can you give the name of the trad mill for dogs?
I did in the video
Will I be able to get my old, fat dog to do this?
I just got a dogpacer for my 1 year old wheaten. He’s super high energy and strong. Will using the treadmill increase his stamina and strength? I really want to teach him to be calmer and less reactive.
