You could buy this for $51k or get a TRD Off Road Tacoma with manual cloth seats, a felt skid plate, and donut for a spare tire for the same price. What in the world was Toyota thinking on their crazy ass pricing?
Felt skid plate 😂😂
But the Bison is 66K with manual front seats
Zr2 💯
@@braalo07 power driver seat. But you also get steel bumpers, 35’s, and hyrdraulic bump stops front and rear. Not worth 10k over standard ZR2 in my opinion but for something that does compete with the TRD Pro and is $10k less OTD… even the Bison is a deal
@@alexcarbery8189 very interesting engineering and I am seeing where each manufacturer has gone. So GM fitted hydraulic bump stops rear and front and Toyota only at the back, then to make up for it in Pro they did the manually adjusted compression stiffness and dynamic seats. The Bison gets 35s but Taco gets the Hybrid which I think also adds to the cost. I would assume both are relatively priced. But of course I would say both are priced high. I wouldn’t say one is better option than the other because I have never seen comparisons but on paper I would say both are on par albeit with different setups
Picked mine up 3 months ago. I thought paying 52 grand for a midsize was alittle excessive, but after seeing prices of comparable Fords and Toyotas I feel like I won the lottery. Super happy with this truck.
You got Suckered at that price!!😂
@mrnobody5989 Think so? Then you have 3 options.
1) Go to the Ford dealer and pay 60 thousand for a Ranger Raptor PLUS DEALER MARKUP.
2) Go to Toyota and pay 65K for a Tacoma Pro PLUS DEALER MARKUP.
3) Keep the Prius that you're driving now.
@@mrnobody5989 you are just broke... Pretty affordable.
@Vec135 You believe that American's paying $1,500 @ month for a Vehicle is an Awesome deal?????
@mrnobody5989 Traded in my Silverado for 20K...put 7 cash into the deal and I pay 450 a month. Not bad. My point is that the ZR2 is 15 K less than a Tocoma Pro or Ranger Raptor, and in many ways it's a better truck. So, heck yea, I'm happy with my truck.
Try to keep up, lad.
This truck with the 3.0 Duramax and the 10 speed would be the ultimate offroader
Probably would’ve had more longevity too
@@brianmola711 The turbo-4 in this truck is built like a diesel engine but with spark plugs. Nodular iron spincast cylinder liners, iron piston ring carriers cast into the pistons, forged rods, forged crank, forged main bearing caps. The engine was built to last a long time. Nodular iron is the hardest wearing form of iron you can use in an engine. It's up to the owner to change the oil often enough and not do bad things like driving short trips in cold weather all the time.
I wanted the Trailhunter for the past year. After Toyota released the prices I bought a ZR2 and am so satisfied with it.
Until you find out the resale and reliability is shit. Tacomas are more of an investment, instead of depreciating assets like domestic trucks
@@2jyeti909😂 you think that’s the case with the new Tacoma’s huh. Keep dreaming bud
@@Vec135 yeah?
@@2jyeti909yah and they are made in Mexico so you know they are quality 🌮
I’m a Toyota guy, own a 3rd gen,,I’m gonna watch the reliability on this and if it looks good down the road, it will probably be my next,,I just can’t get over Toyota and what you get for the amount of money you spend, plus the design change is terrible, I understand prices have risen, but what they are wanting for an SR5 is ridiculous.
Same here
Agreed they ruined the line up ugly and junk engine options way over priced
So true. My buddy bought a 2 door SR5 with tow package for 62k after financing. 😢
@@jasuvu2922 lol hope he doesn't haul anything or add 35 wheels. Them turbo's are made in china.. gonna blow up on him.
I have a 2017 Off-Road Tacoma. Was looking forward to the new gen, but I am not impressed. And looking at sales numbers nobody else is either. Ranger Raptor is at the top of my list now, but this truck is getting my attention.
I love my Frontier Pro4X but also like these. If those turbo 4 cylinders hold up, I wouldn't turn away from them.
Sharp looking truck, much better looking then the Tacoma and better price!
Pricey but I like it. Ready for anything with rear AND front locker plus lots of extras except leather seats & ventilated seats. Love the rock sliders & all the cameras.
I got the 2005 colorado with over 315k miles still runs amazing, but the new look is amazing bringing the camero look to the front end
Colorado looks good for midsized truck that's my kind of truck love it I can see myself in a Chevy colorado
ZR2 looks better than Ranger Raptor on the outside, but Ranger looks way better on the inside (besides that vertical screen). Ranger sounds a lot better as well. Both are awesome trucks!
No way gm nailed exterior and interior by far above ford. If gm was smart the 1/2 tons would spot this look it’s the best looking truck out period
The Ranger Raptor makes any GM it's bitch
@@bradturner3361 you need glasses .
@@waynejewell-sw8qg lol your alone with your opinion man that’s raptor looks like trash they did terrible with it everyone is saying it. The only good thing about it is the power rating. Interior looks like a broke dodge with that massive screen. The gm refresh took the best interior of all of them.
@@bradturner3361 I misread you statement . I love the GM Colorado ZR2 inside and out . My only concern is the 4 banger , but some exhaust work and cold air intake plus ECU tune . Would wake it up . But I just did a test drive feels pretty strong stock . 430 torque you feel it . I will probably end up with the Bison on the 35" tires. Don't think that Raptor can hang with me in the rock garden and serious ruts/rocky hill climbs . Also get into some deep snow/mud say bye bye to the baby boy Raptor .
Hi Ben. I love your reviews but sometimes you speak a little too fast, but it’s all good as you give an unbiased opinion. I will comment with regards to the space in a midsize truck which at one time they were labeled as a quarter ton truck. I currently own a 2022 Colorado ZR2. I have had 2 Chevy Z71 full-size trucks and one full size GMC in the past, but in February of 2023 I decided to downsize so I purchased a model with the V6. The truck has plenty of power, 308 hp I believe, the stability and ride is excellent, but another reason for my purchase was the front and rear lockers making it a true 4Wheel Drive. My other vehicles had a limited slip rear differential or should I say, Posy Track, which was a phrase patented by Chevy. Now I will comment on the previous post made with regards to the room in the truck. Anyone who is a larger size will almost take up the full cab where your elbows are that close, they will touch. As for the rear seat, they are basically made for children. An average size adult will fit, but it’s still a bit cramped. Now I’ll give you my opinion with regards to the comfort of the front seats. Both are power seats with heat and lumbar support but I can honestly say that it has to be the hardest and the most uncomfortable seat that I have ever sat in when it comes to trucks. After an hour or so I have to stop and stretch my back because the seat feels like your sitting on a brick and my wife tells me that the passenger seat is just as bad. So I ordered a full-size Trail Boss and I’ll never buy a midsize truck again. Maybe other midsize trucks from different manufacturers are good so I can only speak on my Colorado and as for the ride and the room with a full size truck compared to a midsize truck, there is no comparison. Thank you and keep sending out videos. Cheers to you sir.
Looked at the market pretty closely since everything was pretty much brand new in the midsize segment when I was shopping. After seeing the complete unavailability of Rangers at the time and the markups dealers were sticking on the new Tacos, my stripper ZR2 for $48K was the easy choice. Better equipped and cheaper than the Taco and actually available unlike the Ford at the time, plus it's just a genuinely fantastic option in the space. Tons of off-road capability, great looks, surprisingly good on-road manners and great tech (save for the now-recalled auto-braking system), even without going nuts on the options.
Anyone going with another truck probably isn't making a bad choice because everything in the segment is pretty rad. They just have different priorities, and I can't fault that at all. Save for the crazy high MSRPs and dealer markups for special models, this segment is replete with great options now.
That is a very good looking mid size.
Nice truck. Best bang for buck (though still too many bucks) of the midsized choices imo.
$54K midsize off-road ZR2 isn’t bad. Nice looking truck.
Did you hear yourself?!
It isn’t good either. 54k for a midsize is ridiculous.
Put the pipe down man. That price is WILD.
@@emb647 I have the Bison with the AEV package now. Fully loaded beast.
Ben what color is the exterior? Thanks.
I think for the price difference in these high end trucks vs other trims that GM should give these more power and tq.. just kind of set them apart a little
I think that colour does a great job at matching the front bumper colour to the body - outside of black, GMC and Chevy have a real hard time with colour matching the plastic to the metal.
Not bad at all. I cant do mid size trucks though. I just sold my Mojave. I already had a Wrangler for the Jeep thrill and a Power Wagon for the truck part. Don’t know why I had a Gladiator too 😂
You have to get out of a Chrysler brother. GM and ford are obsolete
Very nice 👌, I like to see fox shocks on the zr2 .
What color is this truck? Is it a Bison?
after they announced the price of the tacoma trd pro , i went to get a zr2
Always the one or two people asking for a Diesel when hardly anyone actually buys them. Diesel Colorados accounted for ~15% of sales, so it makes zero financial sense for GM to continue the dev & support for a secondary powertrain.
We want a 5.3 option.m in this not a diesel
diesel had 369 torque vs turbo 430 torque end of story.
The 2.8 duramax was the key selling point for me
I would have definitely bought another ZR2 if it still had the duramax
But sadly they don’t 😞
The truck was insanely amazing and would get over 40mpg but I just upgraded to a bigger GMC AT4
Needed I bigger more spacious truck
But damn the ZR2 is a jack of all trades
Have to admit that i actually like the design of the bow tie, much different than usual on this model
Ben what happen to that camera view while you were test driving? Anyway the ZR2 looks more off-road worthy than the Ranger Raptor. It sits higher off the ground and just plan looks better while being almost 10 GRAND LESS. The Ranger has the edge in the engine department but that is all. Overall I think the ZR2 is a better option for most people
In a ZR2 package it should have been an option to have the 3.0L diesel and the 10 speed transmission matching the 1500 power outputs
No one would buy a mid size diesel truck and diesels are not as popular anymore
If these things end up reliably lasting a quarter million miles, I’ll consider it. But I’ll drive my 2nd Gen Tacoma for another decade until then.
Fair but same can be said about the new taco.
ZR2 looks way more "adult" than the Ranger Raptor.. $51k for a ZR2 is great, plus here in Phoenix some dealers are giving discounts.
This is a damn good looking truck!
Looks great. Engine and MPG are trash. So why the hell do cups if the MPG is the same or worse?
Honda prologue is one of my personal fave upcoming vehicles. Looking frwd to seeing you getting to review some
Its a great look but it needs more leg room in the back
Beautiful truck, but it has a 4 cylinder. It doesn’t compare to a Raptor.
A 4 cylinder that only gets 17mpg highway! I get trucks aren't going to get good fuel economy but my hemi ram still gets 18.5mpg average on a tank and in the 19's on the highway... With 3.92 gearing
It’s almost $20k less. So no it doesn’t compare.
@@951media What are you talking about? Ranger Raptor can be picked up for 55k...like 2k more than this truck
@@SgtPhrostejust try and find a RR at MSRP. The dealers a up charging on these if you can find one.
Love this better than the Taco 🌮 but the prices on these have gotten out of control 😵💫
Ze2 bisoon is probably a raptor equivlamt
I wish GM would make that a 415hp beast! Looks wise it looks fantastic.
It's interesting that this truck has more horsepower and torque than the SS454 Silverado had back in the day, and it weighs less. This truck is NOT lacking for power.
@@MrHand-ih4sz To be fair I make more horsepower than 90's vehicles.
@arthurwright255 Still...it's crazy to think that a 2.7 litre 4 banger can out horsepower a 454 big block. Never thought I'd see the day...
@@MrHand-ih4sz Same, the new turbo engines are pushing out crazy numbers.
they really need to make a 4 runner competitor based off this chassis.
Damn good looking truck. Unfortunately it’s a GM product. Having had two that were bought back under California Lemon Law, I’ll never buy another one
Had a 23 Colorado Trail Boss for not even a year and it didn’t even reach 10K Miles. 2 dead batteries and then the valve body in the transmission bursted and it was at the dealer for two months until I decided not to put up with it anymore and traded it in for a Nissan Frontier Pro-4X. I’m a huge GM fanboy and I couldn’t be happier with my decision to switch to the Frontier. Oddly enough despite what people have said about GM, I’ve never had any issue with a GM product until the 23 Colorado.
Brian, I’ve known so many people with Chevy trucks and cars that swear by them. I may be one of those that have incredibly back luck with the brand. I owned two vehicles that were bought back and purchased a 2012 Camaro that had part of the engine bay missing paint. It was like the paint robot froze or the computer rebooted in the middle of the job. Was weird to see on a brand new car. I just feel that GM quality, at least for me isn’t there, at all.
Too much tech to screw up in the future plus you can keep a turbo 4 banger give me a NA engine anyday
That rake looks ridiculous though.
When I needed a truck last year, I looked into getting a Bison. I really liked it, the Raptor wasn’t out at the time. Got the F-150 Heritage Edition for the same price. I would consider a Bison if I move back to a midsize truck.
I'm not going to be happy with this channel until I get a thumbnail with Ben standing next to two trucks with literal 2 gallon canteens in each pocket, I mean the current pocket contents aren't nearly enouch! I need phones, keys, canteens, a few cats, in EACH pocket. I want those pockets so overstuffed that a paratrooper in cargo pants would be jealpous. But seriously Ben, load up those pockets. The RUclips algoritm appreciates you.
This color and sand dune are just so nice
You can do a mildly equipped crew cab LT Silverado for the same price with a 5.3. Tell me these aren’t overpriced. 🤦🏼♂️
Raptor>ZR2. 4cyl DO NOT BELONG IN TRUCKS.
Many say 6cyl don’t below in trucks either?
But in that same sense fans boys always tried to argue the turbo v6 belonged in the RAPTOR F150 😂
If touch screens had come first and then one day came buttons and switches the automotive world have gone nuts with joy.
lol the Tacoma is going to be a massive fail. Honestly, the last generation looks so much better and I was worried they were going to screw the design up... the new one looks like they bought a tacoma then went online an bought a third party "concept" body kit and screwed it on. I'm going Colorado for sure this time around.. or a Canyon...
4 cylinder?
Is the GMC version better?
Nicer on the inside, slightly different interior. Engine tuning a little different, otherwise the same.
@@pherron7471engine tuning is the exact same
10 years from now should all these systems develop electrical faults the repairs are not going to be cheap.
And allllllllll the electrical problems, those come free.
No different than all other manufactures in 2024. Out of all the problems a new car could have…… I’ll take electrical any day lol lesser of them all
Its gonna be a pro 4x for me....this is a beautiful truck but i will be pulling a 6x10 enclosed trailer with 900 lb Atv inside !! ...i feel this its too much for a 4cyl
Is this reliable
Very nice
American car makers know how to lure their customers with accessories, design, and features. Their quality however is quite doubtful. Every single engine Toyota has made since the very first Land Cruiser till today no matter the market has been and still is bullet proof reliable. You can’t say the same thing for Ford, Chrysler, and Chevrolet
Nice truck but not raptor level. More like loaded lariat level
Nope it is raptor level
@@Andrew-hi2rj It's really not tho. 100hp less and it SOUNDS like the 4cyl it is.
@@SgtPhroste so what you’ll win in a drag race? Very cool. Torque is the same. Also costs way less
@@Andrew-hi2rj Way less? The sticker on this truck was a little over 51k to get it basically all the options the base model Raptor comes with with a sticker of 55k. Sure same torque...but with a 3.42:1 axle ratio and 8speed trans vs a 4.27:1 with a 10 speed Raptor will put more of that power to the ground vs ZR2 🤷♂
@Andrew-hi2rj not even close to raptor level
I say don’t waste your money on the bison just get the ZR2 !!!!!!
Don't forget to like, share and subscribe!
Maybe for 38k, I’m not paying even 54k the market is to high for the value
Thats sooo much nicer than the new tacoma.
It's really disappointing that a truck with such a cool exterior has such a blah interior.

All this truck needs is a Duramax. Come on, GM, give us back a diesel option in the Colorado!
It will never happen with the leftist lunatics in charge at the EPA. There will be NO light duty diesel engine that will meet the '27-'28 emission standards that they plan to adopt. And get ready for particulate filters (and all of their expensive problems) for gasoline engines. The whole plan is regulate ICE vehicles out of existence, and force people to spend a fortune for an EV--or either stay home or ride a bus.
I don't put much faith in reviews from city boys that don't own or use trucks.
I'd be all over this if it had more rear legroom
Making payments is overrated .
Like the price but not the engine
I have this truck in nitro yellow and I’m not happy with the build quality. Lots of plastic rattles inside.
Please don’t compare this to a raptor, two different classes of vehicle.… the raptor is a fine tuned machine.
Never seen a video end in mid sentence before, wtf was that?
You say 17 city 17 highway gas mileage from a four cylinder?!!!!!
Why are the mid size trucks are excluded from cooled seats. I don’t care about 90% of the fancy new crap they’re putting on trucks, except a backup cam and cooled seats

“I see dead people”
i agree with other comments below...you are cutting the video too closely together, sounds like one of the zoomers coked out talking about a truck...hard to keep up with
I've said it before and I'll say it again... this truck and the GMC Canyon are the best looking trucks on the market today, by a wide margin. I expect Ford, Toyota, Nissan, etc. are all taking a deep dive into this design and we will see a lot of these elements in their future models.
battleship grey is the wrong color interior for a supposedly sporty truck

17 mpg is a joke
For that price it should come with all appliances and a bedroom/ bathroom because that cost almost as much as my house did.
For that price I'd just get a Silverado. Midsize pickup trucks can feel really cramed after prolonged driving plus for passengers the backseats are too tight. You can get s trailboss 2024 Silverado for $51k.
I just wrote a review. You are 100% correct and I can attest to that as I own a Colorado. Never again will I buy a midsize truck. Great comment sir. You called it spot on. Cheers to you my friend for keeping it real.
Agreed. These are not trucks set up for backseat passengers unless they are small people. In addition, the MPG rating is terrible. Possibly the Ranger 2.7 V6 will be more fuel efficient and Ford does have slightly better rear passenger space.

I don't see how the colorado zr2 is a raptor fighter. It does not have an engine that is powerful enough to compete against it. The raptor is a baja truck which means that it is built for high speed off roading while the colorado zr2 here is more built for low speed off roading like rock crawling
The Colorado ZR2 is built for high speed. It was developed from the Hall Racing program. Which has been racing Colorado ZR2's since 2017. The ZR2, like the Raptor, is a wide body long travel truck IFS. They both have front and rear lockers. And they've got pretty close to the same clearance numbers. Other than the Colorado ZR2's engine being down a bit of horsepower, but the same peak torque, its right there with the Ranger Raptor. And HP is not the limiting factor of speed off-road in either truck (actually if you look at their racing results, and the ZR2 has been raced way more than the Ranger Raptor, you'd see they post very similar average speeds in similar races). The only mid-size truck truly built for rock crawling is the Gladiator Rubicon.
@@PeakDecline I guess it partially counts as a baja;I think chevy has plans to create a silverado meteor which is suppose to be a baja truck so maybe they will also bring it to the colorado but who knows, lets wait and find out
Aren't they comparing the Ranger Raptor?

The ZR2 is 400lbs. lighter, so the 95 HP loss (same torque) is negligible.
