- I've been playing ranked matches as Dan for a while, saving the replays... Finally decided to do something with the footage!
The song, of course, is from Disney's Mulan. I thought it fit Dan pretty well (other than references to the huns lol), seeing as he believes he's a talanted martial arts teacher and fit to judge the abilities of others.
Enjoy the vid! All clips are from ranked battles on Xbox 360. I'm not good at SSFIV and this video isn't meant to state otherwise, highest rank I've ever got Dan to was B, but then I fell back down to C again. Lol. I just wanted to show off what a fun character Dan is. He doesn't often win, but when he does, he wins with STYLE!

There's a reason.
Playing as Dan is a philosophy. It's a statement about personal power and self-improvement. When everyone says you can't, you try your damnedest to prove them wrong. When you can, be a teacher. When you must, be a fighter. But even in loss, _never_ be a loser. In this case, being a loser means letting the clock run out after defeat. If you let more than 2 seconds pass on the "Continue?" screen, you need to bolden yourself up and press start. Take a break if you must, but only to get your wind back. Remember that not everyone will take you seriously, and that you shouldn't, either; the moment you start taking yourself seriously is the moment you stop being Dan. Defeat is not the same as losing- defeat is just another opportunity to try again.
*And when the opportunity to try again comes, do as Dan does:* _dust yourself off, grin at your opponent, give them a thumbs up- and prepare to give it one more go. Every time._
You may not win the next time. You may lose, again and again. You may lose a hundred times. But that is the Path of Dan; and it ensures that you sure as hell won't be a loser, either.

This video never fails to give me goosebumps, honest. Its the impeccable editing. Definitely had a powerful ability to envision feelings he wantd to illicit in the viewer. Not just the video itself, he had every one of us, our reactions and smiles, were the true matter of his art. I would have loved to see more from him, but im glad almost a decade later, we still have this.

Dan is actually pretty OP, his moves have a lot of priority and their weird patterns make them hard to avoid if you get the timing right.
in canon, dan is not weak, just overconfident, if he was more serious, he would surpass everyone else, but would be consumed by the satsui no hadou.
Dan is definitely not OP from a standard Street Fighter character perspective. Nearly all of his normals are lackluster and even his jabs are slightly slower than all other characters. Couple that with a non-existent zoning game and almost no answer for Zoning/fireball characters make for a "bottom-tier" character on the surface. The key that makes Dan a force to be reckoned with in the SF universe is simple: Gimmicks. Furthermore, how good the player is at utilizing said gimmicks, including the stellar forward and backdash, the Dankukyaku (Arguably one of the best specials in the game) and of course, the penultimate wild card- Taunts. Dan's taunts are capable of throwing off even the most seasoned veterans; once you get in a player's head, it doesn't matter how many combos they have--they fall apart.
The glory of Dan is in the fact that he barely learned the basics of Shoto and Muay Thai and decided to bullshit them together anyway, which is reflected in the way he is meant to be played in the game.
PS. Canonically, Dan is still pretty damn weak, he gets his ass beat multiple times by Sakura and is technically weaker than every other character. Granted, he is indeed susceptible to the Satsui no Hadou (which is hilarious) and has more talent than your average joe.
This makes me happier than words can describe!

This is one of the most inspirational videos I've seen in gaming. Seriously. What amazing editing. Your choices really accentuate the song in every way. When he first spoke of being mysterious like the dark side of the moon, I was honestly left confused how he got away with such technique. Your opponent was left with nothing but questions. Questions that exist because they underestimated him. This video really teaches me not only to respect my opponent, but to respect myself. I can be a Dan too.

I had a good deal of pleasure a few months ago taking apart a Gouken player. The guy spent the entire match insulting Dan. He went down in straight rounds, unable to stand before the might of Saikyo. Now that was a sweet victory :-)
