Okay so we opened it up on Monday and assembled the miniatures and played, it was the most hilarious and awesome RPG experience we've had for awhile. In short the crowning moment was when one of my friends got knocked down by the white lion and was in danger, I decided to throw my founding stone to try and save him and do some damage....flipped the hit location...hit the lion straight in the bollocks with a critical wound. It cut his testes off which we received as a resource and I became the priority target of the lion with no exceptions. The card was hilarious and said I hit him right in the ding dong and that he was livid. The Lion was super pissed and it gave him +1 damage. Suffice to say the Lion attacked me with a power swat with 3 damage, I went flying 6 squares with my arm ripped off and I died off shock. A fair trade I think since I cut off his balls lol. We were laughing so hard our stomachs hurt.
This was a such a great series. You have been such a big part of the Kingdom Death Monster community and I just wanted to thank you for that. I hope that you continue the series at some point. You videos brought so much attention this great game and I hope others feel just as inspired. You have inspired me to start a Let's Play of my own.
@MrTrainerGuy1 I do have and play it often. You can check out my let's play on my channel if you would like to watch it. Once you start adding in expansions you can not store them in the box any more. I store them in display cabinet I got at Ikea. There are so many miniatures the box is not a option unfortunately.
This is the only play through of the game I've seen that actually explained things well, not a huge fan of the game but this was good to watch. Cheers guys.
24:59, I believe it's "choose a random survivor" in field of view. You don't have the luxury of choosing. I usually roll off and the lowest scoring survivor gets attacked.
I just want to say thank you for this video. I've watched it several times without having had the game. But yesterday I finally got 1.6 and I've built my survivors and the White Lion. I'm going to watch this one more time and then dive in! Thank you again 😁
btw I noticed a mistake, the nominated survivor uttering the first word gains +1 courage, but also must be the one staring at the lantern hoard for +1 understanding, so warren can't go to hunt next year if he is uttering the first word ::)

Billy Idol guy would make a EXCELLENT DM in a RPG. Guy is amazing at instructions and keeping pace. Youll see this if you watch threw all thier Lantern Years.
You can always Buy Tabletop Simulator on steam and download the workshop mod + any other mod related to KDM that you want. Play KDM for $20 :D. I know it is not as cool as the physical game but it is better than never being able to play the game!
You misplayed at least one monster attack where it was supposed to target the closest survivor within it's movement range, but otherwise it's nice to see this great game to get some more attention :)
I love these Kingdom Death Walkthroughs. They have helped my wife and I with our play through of our own game. I would love to see an entire full game play through (all the lantern years) I know that’s a lot of time but that would be amazing. It would be cool to see some of the expansions and how to implement them into the game. Keep up the great work guys. Also, I just wanted to say I started listening to Darker Days Radio and I love it.
I really liked the video, great explanation of how to play and you guys looked like you had a lot of fun. I also love that you have HeroQuest on the shelf behind you, my parents and I played that when I was younger and now I play it with my kids. I don't think I'm going to play KD:M with my kids though :-)

Just wanted to point out that when Justin used his founding stone to get a critical wound with Abby, the "wound reaction" on that hit location would not have played out (priority target) since the critical wound would have cancelled all reactions on the card. Also; did you forget to use the last endeavor?
We could have. But really it's no loss. The main thing people need to note is that mistakes are part and parcel of a co-op game where the focus is more on the experience and less on the WAAC of other wargames.
I truly understand that, I only meant to point out the possibilities (and I realize im nitpicking on an otherwise splendid presentation of the game). Me and my group(s) did a lot of mistakes during our first campaigns, and we still do, which is also how you gradually learn to survive in this setting. We do everything blind as well and haven't "beat" the game yet. That said, I believe there are challenges/situations in this game that require some serious min-maxing mindset - be that gear combinations, "gaming" the monster, tactical placement etc - which will of course come as a result of trial and error. Then again, this game always finds new ways of annihilating your newly hatched plan :-P
Oh trust me you will see some serious min-maxing coming up when the game really clicks for Warren and there is the change in mindset from "I am the survivor" to "These are our survivors". I've beaten the game once, and my own home game is halfway through People of the Stars. But what you will see is a lot less blind play in these videos.

How convienent that the survivors have lanterns at the start. This game would be very short if they did not have them. That also means that all the monsters and weird characters can see in the dark. Well, unless they also have lanterns.
....incorrect about the survival. It's one survival action TYPE per round. You can dodge once, encourage once, surge once, and dash once. If you could only do one survival action per round you would die fast.

Plenty of expansions can be used to add new monsters, swap monsters out, and some add totally new campaign timelines - which means new events and new stories to play out. So lots of replay.
This looks great Darker Days Radio. My friend has the boxed set of this from the first kickstarter but never opened it. Assembling and painting the minis is no problem as we are both avid hobbyists. Apart from watching these videos though how do we learn how to play and all these interactions? Is it just a case of sitting down with the book and committing to memory?
The very first showdown, and settlement phase are very neatly detailed. So it is not very hard to follow at all. The record sheets of course help track everything. And by the 3rd hunt this will all seem rather rote.
Oh great I'll see if my friends wants to assemble together, I'm glad there's an introductory scenario as playing is the best way to learn. I don't have the box in front me so was unsure of what's in the book. I saw there are lots of weapon options compared to the amount of survivor miniatures. How we do know what to build if we don't know what gear we will pick up in the game in the future? Once the miniature is glued we can't really go back, am I missing something?
Well in the video that is exactly what we play through - the introductory fight. That is the first hunt and the book leads you through it exactly as I laid out in the video. As for the weapons etc, the game is not wysiwyg. So make what looks cool and immortalises survivors or represents loadouts you use a lot.

My buddy got this. We played it one night. First game ever, we defeated the Lion. What made us win was that I threw my stone at it. It hit it in the genitals, and did enough damage to server it... Yup. I grabbed it and started kiting the Lion while the rest of my friends beat it down. I literally cut off it's dick and enraged it to where it would only target me because I was running around with its bits and taunting it. This game is absolutely wild.
Nice gameplay, but you are constantly forgetting that the one controlling the monster has to move it so it's in the WORST way possible for the players. That means trying not to get hit from his blindspot, and if possible, run over the survivors, as should have happened at 33:09. Apart from that and a pair of totally understandable glitches on a first run, you are doing a great job, keep'em coming =)
Actually the monster has to move in the most direct route. The rulebook states nothing about anything else. So if the direct route results in tramples, fine. But otherwise, no.
Furthermore it must be the shortest path. Technically the route we have used at that time is a) the most direct, and b) is the shortest if the lion had enough move to get to the target.
the monster controller thing at 41:20 :: You get +1 insanity if YOU pick your own character. If you are the only target, you have nothing else to pick, making the +1 insanity not apply. I am assuming you are doing it correctly further into the game :P But for new people who are watching this to learn the game. If any rules feels unclear just go with the "Rule of death", the outcome that is the worst for the survivors is most likely correct :P

I'm so glad that this game is on tabletop simulator I would have never thought about spending $400 on this game now that was able to play it for free I kind of like it and enjoy it a lot and I'm considering spending two to $300 for a used set

Recently managed to snag 1.0 and the 1.5 upgrade pack, and this by far is one of the best, most practical play throughs and how to plays out there. :)

We used 3 endeavours to make the locations, and because we lacked organs from the hunt, we could not use the last one for the innovation.

The miniatures are so detail. Spending a few good hours with friends with same interest are priceless.

A good number of the enemies actually do have some means of illumination. That, or they've adapted to the dark in some way...

My buddy got this. We played it one night. First game ever, we defeated the Lion. What made us win was that I threw my stone at it. It hit it in the genitals, and did enough damage to server it... Yup.
I grabbed it and started kiting the Lion while the rest of my friends beat it down. I literally cut off it's dick and enraged it to where it would only target me because I was running around with its bits and taunting it. This game is absolutely wild.

Nice gameplay, but you are constantly forgetting that the one controlling the monster has to move it so it's in the WORST way possible for the players. That means trying not to get hit from his blindspot, and if possible, run over the survivors, as should have happened at 33:09.
Apart from that and a pair of totally understandable glitches on a first run, you are doing a great job, keep'em coming =)
Actually the monster has to move in the most direct route. The rulebook states nothing about anything else. So if the direct route results in tramples, fine. But otherwise, no.
Furthermore it must be the shortest path. Technically the route we have used at that time is a) the most direct, and b) is the shortest if the lion had enough move to get to the target.
Haven't played yet, but at that point, if the monster trampled over the guy behind him wouldn't he have been able to reach abby?
the monster controller thing at 41:20 :: You get +1 insanity if YOU pick your own character. If you are the only target, you have nothing else to pick, making the +1 insanity not apply. I am assuming you are doing it correctly further into the game :P But for new people who are watching this to learn the game.
If any rules feels unclear just go with the "Rule of death", the outcome that is the worst for the survivors is most likely correct :P

I'm so glad that this game is on tabletop simulator I would have never thought about spending $400 on this game now that was able to play it for free I kind of like it and enjoy it a lot and I'm considering spending two to $300 for a used set
