Killing off parasites quickly is always risky. Many years ago we rescued a kitten from a neighbor that shouldn't have been allowed to look at animals much less own any. I'm continually surprised the hawks didn't get the kittens. Maybe they could spot the fleas from 100 feet up. We washed that poor kitten in flea soap 3 or 4 times. The bottom of the sink was black like someone poured black sand in it. I had never seen so much fleas on a critter before. Later when we took it to the vet the vet said he had fleabite anemia. The vet gave him his shots and an anti parasite drug. That drug killed so many internal parasites it nearly killed him. Think lifeless body that barely moved and didn't walk at all for days with a high fever. Felt like a hand warmer when you picked him up. At one point we put him in tepid water to attempt to cool him off when his fever got too high, somewhere around 106 if I remember right. He lived and grew up to be a beautiful Main Coon type mix, beautiful grey alley cat color with soulful eyes that would just look at you till you successfully read his mind. Sadly he got liver failure at about ten years of age.

I agree that between peer pressure and age-related stupidity, it's a miracle that any kid lives past puberty.
Considering the increase of "Helicopter" parents since the 70's and 80's, this has very little to do with age or peer pressure. When you've never been taught to challenge what's said to you, because your parents did nothing but "protect" you from all of lifes inherent dangers, regardlessof how small they are,, you never learn to reason things out before acting impulsively.

And he seemed to be enjoying it. 🤮 I was gagging when I was trying to get him to open his mouth. He didn’t want me to take it away from him.. All I could hear was the crunching sound as he chewed it and see the legs squirming out of the corners of his mouth.
Moral of story: Don't take dares from your friends, especially not if it involves eating gross things raw.

Any undercooked seafood or fish. Even oysters, especially during the warmer months, can carry a fatal bacteria. And people eat those raw.

In Germany we eat our minced meat raw and only occasionally someone dies.
We have this here in Hawaii, I’ve known a handful of people that have succumbed to this, one had symptoms for a few weeks and recovered, one went into a coma and expired, most take decades to slow recovery. It is said that after testing the local population here, around 30% have antibodies to rat lung , meaning we’ve been exposed, but luckily didn’t succumb to it. I would not wish this on my worst enemy!

Probably from eating out. Dirty kitchens with rats would do it probably. Even fast food carts or fast food chains. You would thing the bacteria would be killed in the cooking but if it's something you don't cook like fruit juices or cold food, even foods that are cooked ahead of time. Maybe just from rats just living near the food area.

Sometimes tiny slugs hide in cauliflower and broccoli. It always freaks me out since I first heard this story from chubbyemu since I eat lots of cauliflower and broccoli and don’t always see everything hiding in the nooks. I also freak out when my cat or dog find a snail. This parasite / worm especially can kill dogs.

I’m having total Mandela effect vibes over here though because in August I was in England and went down a lung worm rabbit hole after seeing a video on RUclips, and in my mind I can see a chubbyemu lungworm vid, but in my search history there is nothing at all when I search for lungworm, lung, worm, coma, dare, or Australia. But like you, I’ve just gone through all the chubbyemu vids and nothing there. I think my mind might have made it out of parts of the “man drank throat numbing spray…” vid, but this means I have no idea why I already know gobs about lungworm, lol.

Bear Grylls has eaten his fair share of slugs and snails. In one (or maybe a few) episodes of 'Man vs. Wild' (also called 'Born Survivor', depending on whether you are in the US or UK). However, he boiled them over a campfire beforehand, to improve flavour and, importantly, to kill off any lungworms and bacteria. Even having been cooked and seasoned with foraged herbs, Bear Grylls did not rate the taste and texture of the slugs very highly. However, as Gyrlls would say: "a good source of protein for a survival situation".

I didn't have friends and wasn't invited to parties. I was always alone. But looking back, that might have been a blessing.
I've spotted slugs on lettuce and broccoli I think, never knew the risks were this severe.
Probably because you wash your veg? Improper prep and cooking (human error/carelessness) are always the reason for these kinds of food based infections. Unfortunately, it's part of the problem with the disconnect from the process once grocery stores became a thing.
You can buy food grade hydrogen peroxide and dilute it according to the recommended amount and put it in a spray bottle to spray on fresh food to kill parasites before consumption. They use this already commercially.
Remember, to find insect on vegetables is a good thing because if it's not edible for them, it's not edible for human either. Just wash the veg thoroughly:)
These Dares, challenges are more common than ever with Social Media. So tragic and sad. What seems harmless turns out to be a nightmare.

Yep, it's an Australian thing. I know a guy who ate bits of his own vomit on the dare of friends. He was obviously drunk, but so called friends can put pressure on you to be funny. But this case was so tragic, I don't think his friends who dared him fully forgave themselves.

I put produce from the garden in salted water or water and vinegar. And they need to be washed three times to get them clean. Cabbages are like condos for slugs.

We often forget that we are surrounded by bacteria, viruses and other parasites. It's a constant battle between our immune systems and all of these foreign invaders. A normal, healthy immune system is essential to keeping us healthy and alive, but if you throw something extreme at it, especially if its something new that its never seen before, it can lead to a lot of trouble.
This is a sad story where the punishment didnt fit the crime. Life can be so cruel sometimes. What happened was terrible i was unaware he passed away. Very sad

Best veggie wash is 1/4 cup food grade 3% hydrogen peroxide and 2 liters of water. Soak for 20 minutes - will remove most things including pesticides, insecticides and fungicides.
Adding salt and vinegar has the same effect. It's the pH level of the water that kills the majority off.

This is why I always cook my garden veggies. I rarely eat salad greens though sometimes eat grocery salad greens. I might avoid those now after watching this!
So what you took away was cooking, not washing, veg/fruit was the answer? These worms don't burrow into veg, they're not capable. They stay on the surface waiting to be eaten with the fruit/veg by whatever passes by.
If you wash your veg properly, there isn't an issue.
Parasites are the worst. I got giardia, not a major one- but I was sick for like 4-5 months.

Same. I wash everything. I have a spray bottle with 1/2 water, 1/2 white vinegar, and a few drops of Dawn dish soap. Everything gets washed with that. Lettuce, melons, tomatoes, oranges, and even bananas.
I’ve never heard of this before. I guess it’s a good reason to cook most things. I used to love raw oysters but no way I’d risk it today. Sad story…..

and you need to carefuly wash all vegetables, particully one, that is in contact with ground. If you eat it raw.
The worst is spinach and rucola. It's kinda hard to wash properly. And never eat it at restaurants.

Also, it doesn't contain any more Fe (iron) than rest leafy greens. It was a mistake in old tables, that made it appear 10 times more.
You just need to know, what to eat, so it don't form kidney stones.
Also, you need to mix it with something, so iron get bioavailable.
So I would say, it can be good, but if you don't know about it, it can be also harmful.

Rinsing, no. Washing/soaking, yes. Water with a bit of salt and vinegar is the best thing to wash fruit/veg. Can't recall the exact reason, but it has to do with the ph of the water.

cats are spreading even microscopic parasites, called toxoplasma. It affects human brain, senses and nervous system. The number of toxoplasmosis increasing. It can be also cause of brain fog and increased permanent depression from no apparent reason.
@@warrax111 Toxoplasmosis is caused by coming into contact with cat poop. It's pretty difficult to catch otherwise. Pregnant women are especially at risk, so it's best to get someone else to scoop litter trays while pregnant.

On two hot takes podcast they read about a story where a boyfriend had been puting slugs in her food. He had been doing it for a while before she found out. Lucky she didn't end up like this guy. She left the bf but now she struggle with eating, poor thing.

I think it's because now she has a fear of them so now she notice them more. Before she found out he use to feed the slugs in the yard and take her with him to do it. She use to think he was so sweet for wanting to feed them. It seems like in his twisted brain he got off on feeding the slugs with her that he would feed to her later. I can't remember what episode it was, so i can't point you too it, I'm sorry. But you can find the two hot takes podcast here on youtube. I think her story was one they had a follow up on too where she said what happend after she found out. I think the follow up is where she tells about her trouble eating and her fear of slugs.
@karrisneipen Ojay thanks for the info. I will probably check it out. Recently in my city it was in the news that a woman was poisoned by her roommate who had been putting an amount of vegetable oil in her bottled water. After feeling unwell the woman somehow the victim was able to prove it and her roommate was arrested though I can't remember the charges brought against her. That considered I would think the actions of the ex boyfriend in the situation you've mentioned to be a crime as well. I wonder if charges were ever brought against him. Anywho, thanks again for the details. I can completely understand why the woman would be traumatized from the experience.
