Mavic 3 predictions based off the Mavic Air 2S

- I hate doing these because someone will ask for my EDUCATED GUESS and the same guy will go "WeLl yOu PrOmIsEd mE a MaVIc 3 bY sEptEMbEr!!1!" when it doesn't workout that way. It's happened before.
I would be happy with:
6-9 months out
$2000
Micro 4/3 sensor
6K video but on an 8K sensor, with a 6K sensor crop shooting option (I don't care about filming in 8k)
Zoom lens 24-48mm, or just a cropped shooting mode
*Swappable lenses would be great if there is no zoom. Annoying, but better than no lens options
Aperture control of course
No changes in photos they are already the beezknees, will only improve with a larger sensor
Range, flight time, sensors, smart stuff, don't care about and never use.
Why I say this?:
Mavic Air 2S was released with barely a peep about a 1 inch sensor now being only $1000. This WAS the reason for the Mavic 2 pro. They wouldn't cannibalize their own line unless they had some really juicy stuff coming
DJI already has Micro 4/3 sensor testing/formatting down with the Inspire 2 X5S camera
They want to keep this simple/hassle free because their sales are MUCH stronger when they make drones small/foldable/all-in-one. Interchangeable lenses seems clunky, but it MUST be the go-to professional tool and groundbreaking. I think a larger sensor zoom lens is the only clear victory they have.
At the least, 8K sensor with 6k cropped shooting would allow you to be at like 150% zoom without any quality loss and that would help solve the shooting modes issue some... still that seems mild compared to a larger zoom lens.

I used to think the photos the drones gave out weren't that good but I realized very quickly that i can stitch photos together and other little features that honestly makes them great for photos
It makes it way more capable because you can shoot a panoramic 5 feet away from a rooftop and the angle looks insane that way. Way more data and flexibility like this, not very interesting without

The video course is bigger/more active on Facebook group. There are constant updates with video, photography is pretty much a *learn once and it applies forever* kind of deal with these drones

so far you only get 5.4K wide and I really liked the partial zoom on the 4K in the Mavic 2 pro. This plus aperture control puts the Mavic 2 pro as slightly more convenient still, but otherwise quality is so similar. The Air 2S is only $1000 though and just smaller/easier to deal with

Hey Alex first off love your videos and I'm reaching out because I've always been interested in ariel photography. Didn't know that dji made the mini 2 and of course they improved the specs but, is this a good entry drone to go professionally and begin making content or aim for the Mavic 2 pro. I will love to get the Mavic 2 pro but due to my budget and expenses it's not a drone I can get now, and I just really want to get started. I appreciate for the response

I see some of your videos shot with an Air2S and thats what I have, but when I'm using mine in 4K and Cinemode and everything, I play these videos back on my laptop and the quality is just so poor compared to yours. Why? What am I doing wrong, is it a settings thing, is it something I can adjust, is it software?

Agree with about 90% of what you're suggesting. Your product tier drawing is nearly EXACTLY what I doodled a week ago. It will have a range claim of 1 km farther than anyone else in this market, it will have a flight time of 2 minutes longer than anyone else in this market. Aperture control and the sensor will be nearly as fast as a global mechanical shutter.
I’m very excited to see where they go with it. I’m happy with my air 2 and by the time they release the mavic 3, I’ll be ready for an upgrade.

The exam is extremely easy. Don't let these course sales freak you out. Buy a book, make flashcards, learn to read a map, and you'll be good
the "formula" is to knock your ego down a few pegs but still allow you to pass. I asked my test place if they've ever seen a 100% score snd they couldn't remember any or very few if there were.

Hi there, appreciate this video. One thing to point out though - You are clearly an aerial photographer, yet many are aerial “mappers” meaning we use the sensor for mapping the earth. Currently, the mechanical 1” 20mp sensor on the P4Pro is top of the line and has been for 4 years. 20mp may be enough for photographers, but a 46-50mp 1” or micro 2/3 sensor would be GROUNDBREAKING for aerial mapping cutting our flight time in half and allowing much higher accuracy from same heights as before. We care much less about 6K or 8k. Just something to put out there.
@quickasstutorials any speculation on them adding the dolly zoom to the 3 pro or do you get the feeling they will keep that on the air models only?

Great video man 👍🏼 I’m hoping for all you have predicted . Like you say I’m really hoping for an improved sensor with two focal ranges with a constant aperture. 8k only for the purposes of cropping in.
The other thing I would like to see is a little more power and a higher max take off altitude (7000m) All recent models Max take off altitude has been 5000m. Not an issue for most people I know.
Also having the enterprise batteries that can pre heat as standard would be good 👌🏼

No, if the Mavic 3 has prores (looking like it will) it will be a really big deal. That's not something they would just toss into the Air 2S for fun when they barely promoted that drone to begin with

hey, Alex, do you think we're gonna have hybrid drones in the consumer market anytime soon? they would be able to carry full frame sensors and, hell, maybe even medium format!

Makes sense. Couple of thoughts. 1) Instead of SSD or SD they could go for CFExpress Type B which would have plenty of speed for higher res video 2) This will probably never happen, but I’d love to see DJI figure out a way to provide built-in ND filters like a cinema camera b/c changing them is such a pain. Or they could go the cheap route and emulate NDs with software. Any extra bit of exposure control would be amazing.

I've never had a drone or have flown one but I have a question. I've been thinking about buying a drone and my question is the following, should I buy the mavic 2 pro or wait for the mavic 3? Or maybe start off with a cheaper model because I've never used one and I literally don't know anything about cameras, specs, lenses, etc. I just saw a video on RUclips about the mavic 2 pro and I loved the footage. Any info is appreciated.

Would love to hear your predictions on the DJI Mini 3!
Thought you looked like Vin Diesel for a second when I saw the thumbnail on a Ipad. Im happy with the smaller drones flying capabilitys. Just need a less wide lens + prores or cineform on it and Im happy. Even if you shoot 8k I would say cropping in should be the last resort. Even if you could get away with it in some cases l strongly hope for a zoom or a set of primes. Having extra resolution is great for stabilization and sometimes a little reframing. But its best for subsampling down to lower resolution to get a cleaner more ”meaty” image.

If DJI came out with a way to completely unlock that idiotic "flysafe" system for 107 pilots, I might be a DJI fanboy because of their flight quality and their picture quality. I still consider the Phantom 4 to be the Swiss army knife of drones. Flying in a heavily Class C/D area though, I find myself moving more and more to my Autel Evo II PRO. I hate showing up on a job, even after asking China for permission to fly, and then not being able to take off, within the time limit for my FAA airspace authorization.
During one flight, it detected an airport runway that wasn't there and never has been and then wouldn't take off. It was supposedly in the downtown area of a town that dated back to the 1600's. Complete rebooting solved that one. A few weeks ago, it decided to land when it detected the intersection of Class D airspace with the Class C I was flying. It just started landing...no back to the start, no stick control. It could have landed on anything, which is dangerous. I had loaded their tokens for both airspaces but you can only have one active at a time.
I’m hopeful the specs you mention will come true ..but also add the full autonomy that skydio2 has ..

Great video! 😊👍💕 I hope the Mavic 3 is everything you say. I won’t get the S2 because it doesn’t have the variable aperture which is good from changing light conditions like sunrise and sunsets. I don’t need 8k because my computer won’t handle it, 6k is perfect! 😉
You make a lot of good points. I also think the M3p will have a micro 4/3. My reasons are a little different though. The inspire 3 will likely move up to a crop sensor at that point. I think one of the reasons for the need to increase sensor size is because of Sony. With Sony entering the market DJI will need to make it harder for them. When Sony entered the camera industry, they really shook things up. Both Nikon and Canon are now playing catch-up. Or what Playstation did for gaming. If I were DJI I'd be keeping an eye on Sony. When they come to play, they will go all out.

I am waiting to see what the Frick and when will the Mavic 3 Pro be available. As well as the Inspire 3, I just need to get a new Drone ASAP. Currently on hacked M600 Pro with RS2 on it, but not everything works as I would prefer it to. Just need a half decent cam these days with a a reasonable size to it.
How does the air 2s sit in comparison to your september drone guide video? As the air2s and mini 2 were not part of the comparison
Agree -- the sensor size has to go up if they are putting that on the Air 2S. Autel Evo 2 already has 8K so think they have to match. And Skydio 2 has better tracking w/ the beacon so hopefully they come out with something similar there to match. Still debating whether to wait for this to come out or upgrade from Air 2 to the Air 2S
I just want to know what kind of camera will come with the Inspire 3. I hope i can still mount the x7 since its a really good camera and don’t want to upgrade the camera but the drone needs an update fast
Can I ask you something kind of unrelated? I'm having some trouble with my workflow with mavic 2 pro raw files in lightroom. Especially with lower light images the images appear way different after exporting than they do in the develop tab and it really messed with the quality of the final image
What do you do to mitigate this? I get bad colour banding

What about Mini 3 predictions? Especially after Zino Mini Pro release...
Mavic 3 zoom w/ 1” sensor, zoom lens, & fixed aperture + mavic 3 pro w/ m43 sensor, adjustable aperture, & interchangeable lenses for better low light/high iso & dynamic range would be an amazing release. Bonus points if they can add pixel shift for ultra high res photos. Additional internal storage and full size SD card use would be great. I would gladly buy something in between the size of the mavic and phantom if they could make it m43 sensor with different focal lengths
So is the pro worth my money or should the air2s get every penny?
