I remember me and my classmates doing this kind of voice when roleplaying in school presentations as elderly people. I also recall some doing this voice when acting like zombies.
Seeing one of your videos and visiting your channel intantly made you my favorite singing coach on youtube. 💖 I like your short and precise explanation. 😊
I can't do vocal fry during the day only in the morning whereas when I was younger I can do it at anytime. What seems to be the problem? ever since my bass register went deeper I started to struggle with vocal fry except in the morning.
When you're going from the vocal fry to the modal voice, you (and you just demonstrated it here, I heard it) also produce some amount of undertones, that you can train yourself to stay in. Even more when you demonstrated that you can mix more fry, you were on the 2nd subharmonic, which is exactly one octave under your pitch. You might be interested in David Larson's videos on subharmonic singing, and it might be an interesting topic to cover, possibly to complete with a professional point of view.
@Aaron Anderson After an additional year of learning about it, I should have been more specific : the octave is the fist subharmonic register but the second subharmonic note, the fifth under that is the second subharmonic register but the third subharmonic note. The first note in the suharmonic series, just like in the harmonic series, is the fundamental, in modal voice. I think she is in the second register/third note, for a very brief moment.
So like is this normal to have a vocal fry all over ur voice register like the low,mid and higher register if it ain't normal then I have caused a major damage on my voice cause sh*t is all over my voice
I learned from watching this that vocal fry is a simpler concept than I was first told, and that a good example for conversation is "that girl from The Grudge" 😂
I sing with vocal fry naturally like it just happen i dont know if it is ok or not im confused if im going to try to avoid it or just let it happen everytime i sing pls help.
imagine coming down on the note your singing, instead of reaching up to it. i guess think of dipping on the first note of the breath. it’s essentially the opposite of using vocal fry in my opinion. To a lot of people dipping it comes very naturally. it’s used a lot in pop music as well. imagine a singer who has the opposite sound as britney spears, as she tends to use vocal fry excessively. a lot of blue eyed soul singers use vocal fry like as well like Amy Winnehouse and Adele. so maybe find references and singers who have the opposite sound of them? maybe studying their voices could help! ☺️
Believe me or not I'm here because I wanna learn how to sing a Leprous song. It's been a long & weird journey & I'm telling myself to not discriminate on the knowledge & just take what I need without judging lol. If I need to first learn vocal fry then I'll put on some Britney bring it on 😂
Great instructions and video, however, I believe that vocal fry is a perfect way to wreck a song. It's overused, generic, predictable and a great way to make a forgettable song. Rather than copy an overused technique, create your own style of singing.
Nooooo why are you teaching another batch of kids how to sing in this terrible way. I hope you sabotaged these instructions with fake instructions because the scourge must end!!!
Thank you for not being so complicated and getting right to the point 🙏🏻
I'm doing this for fun when i was a kid didn't know it's a vocal fry... 😂 😂 😂
Same. Now I understand subharmonics... I actually surprised myself. Now I just need to learn to do this ... Louder
Were you copying the kid saying Redrum in The Shining? 🤣🤣
Same lol
So basically just do the death rattle from The Grudge? Got it
Thanks a lot! That instruction open up a whole new world for me vocally!
Very clear, great demonstration :)
Finally found a good tutorial of vocal fry
Thanks Vocal Freya !!

Amy lee often sings clear, not like this
@@emilyrose3490 She did. Try Lacrymosa at 1:49 part of the song
I had no idea I was already doing this by making grudge noises
So when you first start practicing with your epiglottis, just do the sound anime characters make when they're scared and their eyes jiggle.

Yes, vocal fry is good! I'm trying to learn how to so that I can do a cover of Match into water by pierce the veil.
depends on whether or not YOU like it
Do you breathe in or out when doing this technique?
Out
@@roshangurung9956 Lmao I got better at this just because of this one comment 🙏
Breathe out xx
when i came here to learn how to sing as a heavy metal vocal fry and then this happens :|

Same
You should try “grunt”, or “death scream”
Is it easier to fry on vowels?
Technically, you can only do vocal fry when you're using your vocal cords, which is only the case when you sing vowels or voiced consonants.
Listen to Dimash vocal fry on low notes in "sinful passion" , plus , false vocal folds are not involved on vocal fry ?
I tried but the fry didnt come out
All I can think of is Brittany spears 😭
Am I the only one who can't do this? It's so sad hmm
Geiger counter
I came here for demonic metal music! But then saw this happy lady😑
Don't teach people this it's bad enough when they talk like it let alone sing!
Surely Britney is who should be giving the coaching. It makes people sound so dumb. Especially in business
Gonna admit, I hate onset vocal fry in pop music, it's massively overused
Oh god my ears are bleeding make it end, Oh Dear God
Watch the Kardashians
Wtf why do people can't do that
vocal fry, yuk

Vocal fry singing? To be honest it is so irritating to me.. To be really honest. I HATE IT!!!...
today's young women will have a voice problem in the future. this is not healthy for the vocal cords.
Woman moment

Wtf
