funny fact with the battle against heracles is that he didn't use his full power. Otherwise he would have killed heracles which he didn't want to do as he is the son of zeus so you could even say he lost on purpose.

His most recent reference is an Epic Games gauntlet game called "Hades", in which you play as Zagreus, and fight your way out of the underworld
Hades... My favorite deity. It's tragic that many are trying to invalidate his power and tried to vituperate him due to his background as God of the Underworld.
Hades has really been warped in our modern world. The Greeks seemed to look at him as a harsh but fair ruler. They also called him the Hospitable One because he always accepted new souls. Also in all of the stories involving him there is at least a version where he is fair. Like allowing Heracles to borrow Cerberus if he can earn the privilege by subduing him without harming the beast. He allows Orpheus to take his wife so long as he proves his honesty by not looking back. Hades gives you what you deserve in reward and punishment. The harshness being that he punishes without sympathy because you deserve it.
You know some people might be saying that he deserved the spot of zeus and that zeus be in the spot of hades but i think hades fits the role of the underworld ruler better as he has the most fair and merciful personality out of all the gods

Macaria was brought up in this video, but it’s worth bringing up Zagreus and Melinoë as well. Both were children of Persephone, although sources disagree on whether Hades or Zeus was their father. In general, later versions (e.g. the Orphic versions of Dionysus-Zagreus) said that Zeus was their father, whereas older versions (mostly from fragmented works) said that Hades was their father. Confusing matters even further is the fact that Hades was sometimes literally called the “Deep/Lower Zeus” or the “Zeus of the Underworld”, so even versions that seemingly named Zeus as the father could’ve actually been referring to Hades.
@@via45 Trust me there is really no boundaries with big daddy Zeus. He once did it with his great granddaughter Alcmena because he found her hot. This resulted in Hercules been born.
Petite Petite Ditto. TBH it makes more sense for Hades to be the father, considering that all three kids have very close connections to the underworld: *Macaria* was the goddess of blessed death, *Melinoë* was the goddess of ghosts, in addition to nightmares and insanity, and *Zagreus* was the god of rebirth, and in some versions hunting as well. In fact, Zagreus and Hades are sometimes described as being one and the same.
In the Persephone myth, Zeus actually gave her to Hades as a bride because she was technically the child Zeus had with Demeter. So technically, he didnt kidnap her, but was more an arranged marriage without her mother's knowledge. And unlike the other gods, Hades actually treated his wife as an equal, giving her half of his kingdom. In some myths, she is even referred to as "Dreaded Persephone"
He literally grabbed her as she was picking flowers and dragged her in the underworld crying and screaming for help. In what world is that not considered kidnapping? Even the ancient Greeks, for whom arranged marriages were the norm, considered it kidnapping. As for Persephone being powerful and feared? Well duh, historically speaking she is way older and more important than Hades, and not because he was nice and decided to share power with her.

there's a good chunk wrong with this, but two things really stick out. First, Hades has a BIDENT, not a fork. @The Gray Ghost I know why but it's still frustrating
Second year? I have it first year and as it currently stands no one has actually said he was evil
@@brandonproductions8401 I think the first two years are interchangeable
@The Gray Ghost yup and I hate them for it
Nice!!!
The tale of Hades abducting Persephone isn’t really that old from what I’ve heard.
There’s one that is older that says Persephone went on her own free will with Hades.
There’s one even older that says she was already in the underworld even before Hades became the God of the Underworld.
Now the second and third versions are quite fascinating. Where did you get those from?
J'acob Albers if I remember correctly it was a post on Reddit
@@prujckn2586 Well, it's lost now. It will be a nightmare to dig that up.
J'acob Albers I agree
Pєrѕєuѕ Jαckѕσn The version of Persephone being in the underworld before Hades would actually fit with Persephone’s portrayal in the Mycenaean Greek pantheon compared to the modern Hellenistic pantheon. Hades was apparently never mentioned in the Mycenaean pantheon, but Persephone was.
Mythology: Pretty chill dude
Hollywood: Let's make him into Satan
NAH THEY DID MAH BOI SO DIRTY 😭
Honestly...
I HAVE BEEN WAITING SO FRICKING LONG FOR THIS VIDEO
Hades is actually one of my favorite gods because he was (in most versions) actually good, portrayed as evil, he was so misunderstood. That’s why he’s the best.
Yep Hades was sort of like that weird goth kid at school who mostly kept to himself and everyone thought the worst of him even though deep down he was a genuinely good person if you get to know him.
I feel like Hades is very misunderstood by others who have no knowledge about Greek Mythology, but in reality he was a compassionate God amongst others
I'm excited for this video. Hades is my favorite Greek god! 😊
Hades is level headed and what's so messed up Zues disguised himself as Hades to sleep with Persephone one night and she had his child thinking it was her husband Hades. Zues is the worst brother, father, husband and the biggest false god
Who can blame hera for being evil? To be exact, hera might not be actually evil, or maybe in cases like when she turned zeus's lover into a cow, maybe she did it to protect the girl from zeus
@@wickedwitch7456 Actually Hera hated her husband but since she promised to not go against him in one of the myths, she takes her anger out on the women not because she hates them, but because she has to take her anger out on someone who isn’t her husband.
That never happened.
@@samrein9919
Yes it did, Zeus and Persephone had a child named Zagreus which eventually was killed by Hera
@@aespa_luvss1348 that's untrue, while Dionysus is sometimes the son of Zeus and Persephone (specifically in the Orphic cult, in most versions and the most wildly excepted one dionysus is the son of Zeus and Semele, a mortal woman)and is sometimes equated with Zagreus in that context but only there, Zagreus himself however IS mentioned to be the son of Hades and Persephone, the one your thinking of is Melinoe for whom it varies on the version wether or not she was the daughter of Hades or Zeus (likely because Hades was sometimes called the Zeus of the underworld which may have caused some confusion)
Easily the Chiliest of the Greek Gods.
FUN FACT
Hades was the first born but last eaten (by cronos)
well.....I guess that's one way to express your love to your son
Talk about saving the best for last 😃
he was also the last one Cronos regurgitated
Hades is the original Batman. He's wealthy, dark, and lives a solitary life. And like Batman he's the least powerful, but the most dangerous. They're both strict, dark characters, not evil ones. So yeah, Hades deserves better treatment.
Except Bruce is kind of a playboy and does have multiple love- interests ( even though most of them are platonic, still counts because he's a caring person).
Hades on the other hand is 99% times devoted to His wife Persephone.
Not sure why you'd call Hades "least powerful", he's one of the top 3 (the others being Poseidon and Zeus).
@@robcubed9557 I say that because he's not known for wielding the thunderbolt like Zeus, or the earthquake like poseidon. Hades is known for his wealth, which while a superpower, doesn't come anywhere near the magnitude that thunderbolts and earthquakes do. But Hades has the most personality. And because he's strict, but just, it makes him the most dangerous.
Can you guys tell me why he is the most dangerous even tho he is the weakest?
@@logantrimble006 he's not weakest tho lol
His power is literally the same tier as his brother Zeus and Poseidon
Also Batman is a playboy, his personality is more like Superman cause he's loyal to his wife Lois Lane
He let Heracles and Psyche enter his domain because he knew that both mortals were forced to do it by their tormentors (Erystheus and Aphrodite), while Orpheus got away because he proved that he was worth of being helped by the Underworld king. Showing that Hades had a good heart, he just didn’t liked to show it often.

Who’s here after Hercules or currently reading Lore Olympus
Herakles
@The Gray Ghost The original Greek is Herakles.. This is a video about Greek mythology. He even got it wrong in the video...

Zabrina Archuleta Yep. I’m becoming a fan of the Greek myths and the webcomic since they’re both start to grow on me.
@The Gray Ghost
Hercules= Roman version
Heracles= Greek version
Both correct but it would make more sense to call him Heracles in conversations primarily involving greek mythology
Well according to me he is one of the best if not the best god in greek. For reasons like:-
1. Equal to zues and posyden in power.
2. Has 1 wife and hardly any record of cheating + half the yr remains with her mother.
3. Richest god.
4. Determined in his job.
5. Dont deal with men.
6. Didnt hold any grudge against harcules for wound.
7. He symbolyses fear and saintness together.
He was the most chill Greek god lol
funny fact with the battle against heracles is that he didn't use his full power. Otherwise he would have killed heracles which he didn't want to do as he is the son of zeus so you could even say he lost on purpose.

The mythologies also stated that Hades had a son name Zagreus, who has a mountain named after him and is thought to be the alternative title for Dinoysis in ancient times. His most recent reference is an Epic Games gauntlet game called "Hades", in which you play as Zagreus, and fight your way out of the underworld
Would you consider doing on on the children of hades
Nathan Grimes His children were Alecto, Tisiphone, Magaera, Makaria, Melinoe and Zagreus :)
I want to hear more about Heracles wounding Hades and his infidelity. I don't recall either of those from my studies in Greek mythology. Great video!
You know some people might be saying that he deserved the spot of zeus and that zeus be in the spot of hades but i think hades fits the role of the underworld ruler better as he has the most fair and merciful personality out of all the gods
For those who still think Persephone hates being with Hades.....why did she get mad when Minthe was scadoodling with Hades?
A lot of people hate Hades for kidnapping Persephone, but y’all needa chill like this was back when bridal kidnapping was the norm, and Zues was probably like ‘Oh kiddo finally got himself a girlfriend’.
No wonder why the Trojan war exist.
Why do I feel that when hades throws people into Tartarus he yells yeet.

That means he create it!?
I don’t care anybody says. Hades is the best of all the Gods.
Hades is often demonized and underrated yet is one of the most rational Greek gods of the Parthenon. He was loving, faithful and genuine towards his spouse and never cheated on Persephone. Yet mortals and even his own kin disliked him. All hades wanted to do was to do his job and be left alone.
Death is a important aspect. Hades did deserve some respect.
You forgot about his other daughter Melinoe, the goddess of ghosts

Waaaa it would be so gross if it was Zeus tho her dad
@@via45 Trust me there is really no boundaries with big daddy Zeus. He once did it with his great granddaughter Alcmena because he found her hot. This resulted in Hercules been born.
@@barbiquearea he also did it with almost every nymph, which are all his daughters from a Titan. He even had children from them.
I like to believe that Hades is their real father
Petite Petite Ditto. TBH it makes more sense for Hades to be the father, considering that all three kids have very close connections to the underworld:
*Macaria* was the goddess of blessed death,
*Melinoë* was the goddess of ghosts, in addition to nightmares and insanity,
and *Zagreus* was the god of rebirth, and in some versions hunting as well. In fact, Zagreus and Hades are sometimes described as being one and the same.
Long overdue🖤🙌
Hades rocks man... He would always be My favorite Greek God.
Pls make a video about the beginings in Norse mythology. I really enjoyed this video , Hades is one of my favorite Greek character along with tezues and Hecate

єчєвrσwѕ σn flєєk Any sources? I’ve always heard that Macaria was Persephone’s daughter, and from what I can gather there was never any mention of Minthe having any children at all, let alone by Hades.
Persephone is the daughter of Demeter goddess of Harvest and Soil fertility and wife of Zeus brother of Hades
Starr Mathias The question was on who was the mother of Macaria, not Persephone. The comment prior to mine said Macaria was Minthe’s child, but I don’t recall seeing any sources or other evidence to support such a claim.

there's a good chunk wrong with this, but two things really stick out. First, Hades has a BIDENT, not a fork. Second, Cerberus doesn't really "guard" the underworld, his job is mostly keeping souls IN, and rarely has to worry about keeping people OUT.
