In the oldest Greek myths, gods and demigods have animal characteristics (especially snakes) ... they are called "chthonic" ... that word mean "under or beneath the earth" ... and the name of the child was "Euri-chthonius" means "shake-earth" so it was a way to describe and earth quake....and he is not her son...just a child without parents and she cares about him.
