I learnt 10x more about this stage from 7 minutes of LR highlights vs 26 minutes of GCN+
Not wrong mate only place to be for proper cycling insight
@@atticushexcel9567 old GCN got me into cycling new GCN is unwatchable
GCN sucks donkey balls... they're ten times more into "social justice" than cycling. Unwatchable dross!
@@atticushexcel9567 " people are mindless". Are you talking about GCN staff or their viewers or both? Personally I think both.
I mean the epic rides series is good in my opinion
Molard probably rode at a false tempo when he pulled in the last kilometres. With Soler up the road and guys like Impey and Arndt coming back, it made it much more hard for Wright to take enough bonus seconds at the finish to take the red jersey from Molard. Molard said so in the post-race interview (that the comeback of Impey and Arndt was good for his goal).
Man, chasers could almost touch Soler’s rear wheel but he never panicked on either side of the final climb. Gutsy win for him. Chapeau!
It would be really cool if you could put the stage profil of the stage of the next day into the video, so that the viewers can already know what to expect. Would be very much appreciated.
I lost it at, "just launched it into the crowd." oh man that's hilarious
honestly if we get this kinda racing on medium stages im here for it. great fun!
Very impressed by Langellotti today. Getting points on every climb and taking the KOM jersey. Is that a first grand tour jersey for a Monegasque rider?
Thanks LR great to see a battle among the up & coming new(er) riders
I wonder if Movistar would give a bidon to Carapaz and whether he would take it ;)
Confused. Wasn't there a rule that you are not allowed to give water to a different team?
@@Michael00000001 bidons are fine afaik
Movistar is the only team he won a GT in, so i think he would take it.
Happens all the time, miss a bottle and get lucky another team offers one in the feed section , particularly when you are not I the bunch.
Should've given Movistar some credit in the photo op -- they always know how to help other squads win :D
I very much enjoy your recaps. Thank you! 👍🏻👍🏻😃
Awesome for Soler. Such a great personality and rider.
Tactics today all part of the beauty that makes a grand tour with multiple teams/individual goals - but good luck anyone trying to explain the subtleties to someone who doesn't follow cycling.
Great coverage and analysis!
I just want to know the story of the bidon - all i can say is that with 21.9km to go Soler still had his UAE bidons, but he was raising his hand back at the cars for something; and that with 20.1km to go the Movistar bidon was in place.
Maybe some illegal stuff in there, so that’s why they tossed in into the crowd 😳. Just kidding hahaha would be very weird
@@MarkBurghouwt I never thought about this. There are drugs that are not allowed in the *rider*, but could they punish someone for just for having those drugs in a bidon?
@@HweolRidda Bruh, what ?
I was under the impression it's not allowed to help other teams. Also you don't take bidons from other teams or spectators as they could be contaminated with illegal substances.
I reckon soler took the bidon by accident given he was riding for Movistar before his move to UAE
What a win for Soler! Impressive.
Soler looks like Thomas
Glad I'm not the only one who thought that. Confused me for a second with his post-race interview (until he opened his mouth).
I didn't notice the Moviestar water bottle on Marc until you pointed it out.
Soler using Almeida tactics🥶
Van Wilder is pretty much Remco's only domestique right now, not sure what has happened to the rest of the team
that bottle pull/toss was so pro
loving your videos, would be really interesting to see the process that goes into making them!
good eye on the Movistar bidon
I wonder if uae DS was shouting "la fuga de la fuga" or "venga esos cajones" in Soler's earpiece xD
The group behind Soler, stop pedaling and chasing him, when they had him im pocket. Some 2km to go..unbelievable..Then they sprinted for second place...lol
The group was no group at that point- just individuals with their own wants.
@@leendeen8745 true but ridiculous
This is one reason cycling tactics are so interesting. Putting in an effort to catch up to first place usually insures that you won't win. That's why you need a teammate to sacrifice their own chances at winning.
In a large group, there's usually at least one guy you don't want to win, so having the entire group lose is okay.
….well let’s go with your explanation: they all just stopped pedaling and chasing for no reason…
@@leendeen8745 one stop pedsling ane chasing the first from bahrain and the others like sheeps behind him and till then, they had it and quickly let the gap down, under controlle all for another participate to chase Soler down...and Soler says thank you and bye☺
That some bottle flip there
great win but what was he doing with a moviestar bottle ?
what's funny is that Fred Wright and Jake Stewart train together in the Peak District...
Good spot on the bidon!
Also: has Jala been to the barber's?
is pogacar and vinegaard in this tour? have not heard about them from these recaps yet
no they are not
A Spanish winner - Wow!!
soler looks like a spanish version of G
Fred Wrights day will come soon and when it does I think the flood gates will open
I get that sense too. Probably my fave of young Brit riders. Wish he were on another team tho.
Is this your fulltime job?
Seems like he has not moved on from Moviestar😆✌️
More UCI points for Israel with the Impey 2nd place

same tactics, the GC will take the jersey at stage 17
The disrespect towards RIEGNING WORLD CHAMPION Nikias Arndt...
Not one mention until the results
Why wouldn’t wright make Soler pace in the beginning? He basically got a free ride for no reason
I think Wright wanted the red jersey and his only threat was Molard. Molard only had to finish in the same group as Wright to get the red jersey, so could just sit on Wright's wheel until the end. Therefore, Wright needed to put time on Molard.
If Wright had just sat on Soler's wheel, it would have been likely Molard would have sat on his, which doesn't help him get the red jersey.
I think the only opportunity Wright had was to follow Soler when he started breaking away from the group, but I suspect the reason he didn't was because he didn't have the strength then.
Movistar gave Soler more support in going for the stage than when he rode for them! :P
How come the GC guys gave 4 min? I know they arent a threat but isnt this a lot? Roglic even lost the jersey for now
If Molard is in great shape he could stay top 10. But 4 minutes are not enough for him. From now Jumbo don't have to take the race in charge, or if they have to, they will get some help from GFDJ.
It is not a lot. Teams have a deep knowledge on who to pick battles with, and they know that, in a 3-week race, those 4 minutes are not a lot against Mollard or Wright.
4 Minutes are not a lot considering the Situation. Tomorrow is an mountain finish with an long climb. Given how exausted Molard is the top GC guys are gonna get atleast 2 Minutes back in think.
Jumbo Visma Fans and others, do you think it was a tactical move to get rid of the red jersey? As in if no breaks had gone would they have kept Roglic in the front?
Jumbo was focused on other GC contenders, so keeping Roglic even with them was the goal for the day. The stage profile was lumpy enough to tire out sprinters, so it favored a break-away -- basically, guys who had decent overall skills, not specialists in climbing or sprints, but perhaps TT. Jumbo was happy to give these guys 4-5 minutes, as these riders will be losing 10-20 minutes in each mountain stage; this allowed Jumbo riders to save some energy.
With no break, Jumbo would pace as slowly as possible, until either another team decided to pace or a break formed. If the break never got far, they'd get caught near the end, leading to either a new break or a scrambled finish, with teams trying to find who still had good legs. In this case, Jumbo would have to let Roglic do whatever, as safety is smart but not fun.
By the last week, riders will be more exhausted and breaks will be smaller and weaker. But at the moment, riders are feeling peppy, so it takes more effort to keep them down. Meanwhile, a smart GC team is conserving energy.

Launching that Movistar bottle into the crowd wasn't very slick like wtf- IT could've hit some kid and which would've been better PR...
Yeah, but Movistar would have taken the blame -- that's why it's genius!😁
Riders are always tossing empty bottles into the crowd -- it's genuine pro gear!
@@icollectstories5702 yeah, but they usually throw them at the feet of the crowds, not heads.
@@marcvb3364 Usually, but tricky while you're in the middle of the peloton. You found the toss risky; I don't: there was a nice arc to it. I dunno if it was completely empty although I hope so.
👋
Fred Wright needs to loose a bit more time before he gets in breaks.
He was in the break today?
@@ManWalksDogs I think the point is that if he weren't a GC threat, he'd be treated better in the breaks. OTOH it's hard to gain the leader's jersey without being a GC threat.🤷
On the third hand, maybe he should have dropped Molard.😁
@@icollectstories5702 so a bit deeper into the vuelta once JV recall their jersey loan. He's definitely capable of a stage victory (whether marked or not) and I'm confident we'll see it in this GT.
@@ManWalksDogs It's a sport, so we're not supposed to know what will happen. If he wants to try again, he'll need to conserve his strength, avoid injury, and hope his conditioning is solid. If you are a pessimist, you can't tolerate waiting.
Meanwhile, we watch!
Hi, I'm from the future. On the next stage, Fred Wright tried really hard and lost 26 minutes. So none of the GC teams care about him anymore. So, he's free to fly!
I really don't get how TJV let's anyone create a 4 min gap to them on GC
Molard will lose bulk time to Roglic in the TT and Sierra Nevada
@@LanterneRougeCycling Also tomorrow. He is exausted. Long climb. Jumbo is gonna push really hard.
By understanding the long game and that it will be almost completely negated in the next day or two
Molard is not a threat for Roglic
More interesting was those who may be targeting a top 20 GC finish sat back like deer in headlights when TJV & Ineos decided today was a recovery ride. They might find Wright or Molard sitting on their wheel in the 3rd week when they are trying to move up the GC 😂
