- Minnesota Twins prospect Zebby Matthews had another eye-opening outing last night. Here’s a look at some highlights of that performance, as well as an overview of Matthews’ impressive numbers on the year and rankings across the minor leagues.
Zebby is one of a group of gems the Twins have identified in the draft I’m calling the Late 8, which are eight starting pitchers the Twins have selected in the eighth round or later over the past few seasons. Joining Matthews in that group are Cory Lewis, C.J. Culpepper, David Festa, Pierson Ohl, Brent Headrick, Louie Varland and Bailey Ober.

Really good post,Tom!
Thanks for watching!
I absolutely love the Twins draft strategy of "mid major SPs who throw 89-92" in the mid to late rounds. They really seem to be hitting on some and you only need one or two to hit to really succeed. Love our farm system just being full of them
It's insane to me that Zebby was sitting 92 and touching 94 when they drafted him and he's all the way up to consistently hitting 98 in this sort a time. And there isn't anything that really appears extra physical or taxing about his delivery (to me at least).
Zebby's season is starting to rival Ober's 2019 season. Hope to see him in the rotation next year.
Yeah, that’s the only guy I’ve seen do this from a ERA, K:BB ratio standpoint. And Ober was barely scraping 90 mph.
I like Ober and it would be excellent if some of this group followed him in the near future. It shows we have good scouts and pitching coaches!
@@Razorbacks1You definitely didn't know who Gil was when the trade happened, Hajjar has a 6 ERA in high-A, Povich is going to get knocked around like he did vs Toronto, the Petty trade was an absolute masterclass (2 seasons isn't a rental & they got a 1st round comp pick).
Tom, you heard anything on Brock Stewart? I know it wasn't in your video, just seems like there is almost zero news on his recovery/time line.
I know he’s progressed to throwing off a mound. Assuming that’s gone well, I imagine he should be starting a rehab assignment soon.
@@TomFroemming thanks Tom! I dug and dug and found something about him throwing 5 pitches off the mound...
He makes that bullpen nails if Duran can find his dominance again.
Alcala, Stewart, Jax, Duran. That's a lot of smoke! :)
I think Zebby and Festa will be with the Twins earlier than anticipated. Particularly if the the owner maintains it's tightened wallet.
Zebby will be a mlb pitcher in the next few years just hope they don't end up trading him for a rental at the deadline
What makes you think they would trade him for a rental at the deadline?
@@Benisuber1because it’s the twins way
@@alexronnenberg3803 except it's not but ok, be pre-miserable
His teammate Andrew Morris can’t be far behind him on the top 100.
I would think so too, but Morris seems to get overlooked a bit.
@@TomFroemming yeah but if he continues to put up numbers like he is they have to take notice. I think it cause of his size or lack there of. Any updates on Conor Prielopp? I know he wowed his one spring training but the elbow can’t hold up. A stud Lefty would be huge in the system.
Is he ready to move up to the Twins? They could use some help😊
