Me too, Destin. It was also another chance for me to see some of my long-distance friends (some of which were invited guests). Anyway, thanks for stopping by my vlog. Hopefully, the event was successful enough to happen again.
Looking at photos from some event, doesn't hardly make sense in itself. You have to hear the story connected to the photos. The memory. Hearing a story in itself can be very enlightening and accompanying photos can even distract. You telling about you being present in retrospect is so much more real than you telling about a photo, taken where your focus was on the future and not the present. So you are on the right track :D
Absolutely! Especially for your style of video production, it makes perfect sense to leave the damn thing off so you can experience and learn something while you're there. And if you do pick up on something that begs for you to pass or teach to your viewers, you'll figure out a way.
I think taking selfies shows "selfishness" of person. When one wants to show something, there are basically two ways: POV or selfie. When I take photos, I try to exclude every person from the frame at all (except of when including people is actually the goal or they don't distract).
I don't know. Calling selfies "selfish" isn't entirely accurate. I mean, yes, asking for a selfie about you, but I'm not sure that automatically means that act is "lacking consideration for others; concerned chiefly with one's own personal profit or pleasure." Sure, it can become that if you're aggressive about it, but not everyone is. I just think my past interactions suffered because I asked for one.
Events in general I like to take one or two pictures just so I have something to jog my memory about it. Usually I'm not even in the pictures it just more my perception to bring back what I was seeing and what I was thinking and feeling at the time.
Literally everyone you took a selfie with is already in my subscription list and I'm pretty sure that I would die from a social anxiety-induced heart attack if I meet any one of them, let alone _literally all of them_ ... Pretty much the who's who of educational RUclips right here. I'd have been way more hype for this than some kind of Hollywood red carpet premiere thing.
The "act" of being the producer takes away from "being in the moment". I'm always thinking from a directors perspective - you're SO immersed in "getting the shot", you don't live in the now. If your main is to Get the Selfie, then you're focussed on getting that one thing. You're not prepared on what to do/say next, so once you've got the Selfie, the conversation is virtually 'over'.
I like taking pictures of scenery and wildlife, but I don't like recording my experiences (like food, concerts, or parties), it just feels like it takes away from the experience.
Whenever I see your vlog , I get sad . Why ? To see this many creators having limelight , you seem to be lost . I don't care about any other creator but you to grow , have financial stability , I'll surely support you on Patrion when I'll get a job of a professor myself and above all deep in my heart I want you to do full time RUclips . But as always I'm just a fan , and it's your life and your decision the way you want it .
Thank you. The two fans I met at ThinkerCon were shocked I wasn't wearing an invited-guest badge, but that's just how it is for me. I'm not exactly "main stream."
You make content your subscribers find valuable. You give enough and you have nothing to prove to anybody (except flat earthers apparently*.) Thank you for your help getting me through enough quantum mechanics to make my first quantum computer program. Just send me an email if I can help with any augmented reality, 3D, etc.
Hey Nick! You seem really busy in the other channel. To ask you a personal question, I have come here. You are in fact my role model. How can I become like you? I live in India. I want to become a physicist.Age: 14. How many degrees have you done? How much do I have to study? Is the way very difficult? Sorry if I ask you questions one after the other but you are my inspiration. But I really want to know how much do I have to study and how I should study. I like Quantum Mechanics and only some concepts of Relativity (though I barely understand them). Please reply soon.
I have both a bachelors degree in physics and masters degree in physics from universities here in the U.S. I never got a PhD because it wasn't necessary for me to start teaching (at what we call "community colleges"). If you want to do research or teach at a full university though, you're going to need a PhD. Yes, it was difficult, but that's true of anything you do at a university (especially graduate school). You need a determination to get through the hard times.
I wasn't sure when I started going to school. I was even nervous and uncomfortable in front of people when I had to give speeches/presentations in classes. But the moment I walked into my first classroom as an instructor (during graduate school), I immediately calmed down and was comfortable. I knew then that I should be an educator.
Thank You. I think we had a lot of chat by now and I am going to see where my interests are going to take me to the future. Thanks a lot for your replies. I was sure you will reply to your Crazies.
The selfie thing is a little weird. I kinda forced Mr. Beat to get photos mostly taken from my crappy phone because he didn't get any from EduCon. Did you see anyone asking for autographs? Is that a "thing" anymore?
There were a few people asking for autographs in that little booklet we got with our tickets. It's a little strange. I was asked for one at VidCon in June, but I was unprepared. I need to learn how to hand draw the crazy guy in my logo for next time.
Does taking selfies take so much time? I mean it takes 5 seconds I think with smartphone, or you use the 📷 real so it takes time??? I don't like selfies either but if I'm with people who are alike I may take selfies. So I asked about what happened to your job??? You didn't inform and no twitter response. And I asked a harsh question expecting you would consider it as asking for truth rather than being harsh
Selfies: It's not about how much time it takes to take one. It's about what it does to the social interaction. I'm just saying that I found the interaction to be more natural without the selfies. Job: I don't recall you question about my job, but I have done a few vlogs about it on this channel. In short, many schools in the Metro-Detroit area have had cut backs because Michigan's population has dropped a lot and property value has dropped. I lost the job that was 3/4 of my income, but still had the other 1/4. That was a couple years ago though. Since then, I've gotten a lot more patrons on Patreon, without which I don't know what I would have had to do to survive.
I remember a few concerts before this bloody virus, all people taking videos and pics... hopefully, mosh pits will still happen on metal concerts, when they will stop the world will stop as well. 😋😋😋
It must have been more niche than I thought. Destin Sandlin comes off like he's a big deal in Huntsville, but that's probably just because I watch his videos.
Super appreciate the sentiment here. I felt like we were all real people at ThinkerCon.
Me too, Destin. It was also another chance for me to see some of my long-distance friends (some of which were invited guests). Anyway, thanks for stopping by my vlog. Hopefully, the event was successful enough to happen again.
I likewise took zero pictures during the event itself. So much more fun that way.
On another note, why are people including Grey in their videos without covering his face!?!? Rude!
Same here. I'm not sure there's any proof I was there.
Dude, you’re like the coolest nerd ever. Thanks for the videos and the stuff I’ve learned from you.
I know, Nick is like a God to nerds. I am very happy for his success.

"Pics or never happened"
The same ones that film the whole event (recital, con, etc) without even enjoy it. Live the moment!!!

Yeah. I'm not a daily vlogger. I don't think I could ever do that.

I’d love to attend something like this ! Science nerds are the best!
Keep on being you, no one else can do it better.thanks.

Nick Lucid No , thank you Professor Nick "Crazy" Lucid . For making RUclips and my life better .
Makes perfect sense!
I hope somebody will make one of these nerd conventions in Israel
I love that you censored CGPGrey's face so you would know which one he was
Just respecting his privacy.

You're a moment sharer, you should take pictures. Like you did previously.

What are those thingies on the top shelf are you experimenting or something?
They're magnetrons from a bunch of old microwave ovens. They're the device that _actually_ make the microwaves that cook (reheat) the food.
@@NickLucid I know what magnetron I saw your video about it too, just for decoration?
I keep them around just in case I need them for something eventually. You never know.

Smells like you have become selfie ishy
Strange. I work in Huntsville. I’ve been in all of those buildings....and I’ve never heard of that event.
