I bought a 2012 E350 extended it looks similar to yours inside and the framing process is giving me fits so I'm screenshotting the pics of your framing for ideas, nice build!

Just purchased the same e350 extended passenger van so it was nice to see your layout. I appreciate all of the wisdom you gave me. I was starting to get overwhelmed with framing and choices for ceiling/walls. But hearing you say that was one of the hardest parts gave me relief. Im now fired up to finish that part and keep working! Thanks again

Man, you out-did yourself. This has a lot of your personality in it, but it gives me a Viking vibe. Simply a great build. I'm ready for the full tour! - Strike the Viking vibe, it's a an old Pirate Ship! Super nice.

How do attach the framing to the van???

    • @Joshuarayfarmer

Its the most finicky part… hard to text the answer… used self tapping screws liquid nails to attach wood slats for backing wherever i could for the framing:)
      Its like legos …

Josh, great van and great build! Interested in seeing your power system in more detail. I’ve got an ‘08 E350 with. 5.4. Vans look similar, but I’ve got the double doors on the side. I was hoping to see this van buildout as not very many extended vans are on utube. I left my rear air in, rebuilt the floor, added curtains and a 60 amp lithium iron battery. (Auxiliary). Oh, yes, a bed platform similar to yours. Not going to camp in it, but travel in it! (Rear air is wonderful!). Wasn’t sure how to configure it, so put the minimal in it. Also put in a 12v cooler and a porta potti. ( all three are must haves for us)
Anyway we went from Albuquerque to Reno and averaged 17.7 mpg. Fantastic!
I did change plug wires, ball joints, brakes, beefy Cooper tires and moto rims.( no lift)
Tinted windows and we were off. A great van and I’m sure you will love yours as well.
Not a daily driver but I do take it out weekly for local errands. I’ve got 117k miles, so still good to go! Really want to see your finished product as you’ve got some great ideas. Mind sharing? Lol!

How many miles were on it when you purchased? I'm looking at a 2006 with 32,000

    • @Joshuarayfarmer
      @Joshuarayfarmer  2 года назад +2

That’s alarmingly low, for odometers can possibly be rolled back so be cautious.
Look at wear and tear on seat-steering wheel-floorboards Or anyplace else there may be signs of wear.
Always be ready to invest into it once purchased… I immediately had to do suspension and fix a door motor/1,500$

@@Joshuarayfarmer That's what I thought too. It was used as a government transport vehicle. It's actually super nice but the low miles worry me.

@@Joshuarayfarmer Great video, I bought a 2004 with 70K on it. They just didnt drive it much, mostly it went to Costco to buy vanloads of stuff for their liquor store. The real telltale is all the bushings underneath. All my rubber looks fresh, and its completely dry. No sign of fluids ever leaking anywhere.

Phenominal build. I just picked up my E350 V-8 Extended today (2007) 158k miles. Looks pristine inside but I will do what you did and take everything out. Did you end up removing the a/c & heating from the rear? I would like to use your sources for the roof rack and ladder build. Where did you go to remove a/c & heater? I know you mentioned using a professional. Great job on your build. Taking your time really paid off. Nice use of wood and the boxes. Can't wait to get started! Thanks for sharing. P.S. do you have a website with pics of your finished build? I'd like to use a few of your ideas for my interior.

Very nice! A lot of detail goes into a build, very interesting for someone who is not build savvy whatsoever. I can see how you would miss the rear a/c system, especially in CA. Super cool insight and looking forward to the upcoming tour video.

It makes me feel so much better, knowing that staring at it and figuring out where to start with framing is normal. Been driving me nuts, and I've seen so many vans with the wood going up and down, frame wise.. that just.. was NOT working with this particular van. So good to have a different outlook.
