I forgot where i saw it, but someone commented that a cartoon show of just those 2 trying to evil schemes and failing miserably would have been fantastic. It would been similar to Pinky and the Brain but the chemistry of Eartha Kitt and Patrick Warburton is top tier
In the original "Little Mermaid" by Hans Christian Andersen, the Sea Witch wasn’t a villain at all. She was neutral and let the mermaid know what the consequences of her actions would be. She wasn’t out to get revenge on anyone.
Also doesn't Ariel die at the end? She fails to get the prince ensuring she'll stay as a human and the spell that made her into one transforms her into literal sea foam due to the spell's steep condition.
@@Off-with-a-bang 1. yes but her name isn't Ariel 2. the original ending actually has a religious theme: after dissolving into sea foam (which was actually mermaids' destined fates), TLM is revealed to have become a spirit, and is told that she would have a human soul and then ascend to heaven after doing good deeds for mankind for a set time period
In Disney's The Little Mermaid Ursula originally version of her was that she was supposed to be King Trident's older sister and actually was supposed to be the true ruler of the ocean. But got overthrown because "women should be seen and never hearn". But the powers-that-be at Disney thought that would be too complicated of an idea for children, so took that whole idea out.
Mother Gothel doesn't get any sympathy. Yes the flower was stolen but she was using it to live longer than she should. The fact the source was used for something else and her response was to kidnap a child was very messed up.
Honestly its actually comparable to Voldemort trying to kill Harry for the Philosophers stone. She manipulates people and uses them for immortality. She wasn't sick, she didn't have a loved one who would die without it, there was no redeeming reason beyond selfish want of immortality and anyone in the way of it could would be killed.
Not to mention her plan was doomed to fail from the get-go. Because the flower doesn't make Rapunzel immortal. So as time passes Mother Gothel will eventually lose her way to regain her youth when Rapunzel dies of old age,I doubt the flower has some reincarnation ability where once the human host dies it responds back into a magic flower.
"Why I practically raised him." "Yeah, you think he would have turned out better." "Yeah, go figure." One of the most underappreciated exchanges in ENG

I don't think Gothel's story was tragic at all. She wanted more life than anyone else, thought her life outweighed all others', and denied life to others by hoarding the flower. That's all. That's not tragic, it's selfish, plain and simple.

Davy Jones has always been one of the most tragic characters in general to me. Especially considering that he spends entire third movie being controlled by Cutler Beckett who even forces him to kill his Kraken, before eventually being killed. The fact that he had to spend his final days in even more misery just kills me. Calypso may say she cares about him, but he’ll always and forever have my heart.

NO NO NO, I was afraid that you were going to put Mother Gothel on this list. She didn't have a terrible, sad or tragic back story. She simply didn't like that a flower that helped her stay young for hundredths of years had been taken. So to get the flower power back she kidnapped Rapunzel from her parents only for her hair keeping her locked up. There is nothing tragic about Mother Gothels back story because there isn't one. I normally agree with your choices Mojo. However this is one that myself along with most other Disney fans will I'm pretty sure definitely not agree with.
At best, you can argue that Gothel had a phobia of dying and couldn't stop it from controlling her life no matter who else was hurt. But it doesn't change that she was evil.

Yes, while her actions are unreasonable, there is a book about her backstory by Serena Valentino. In the books, she loses her two sisters after losing her evil mother, and she wanted the flower to bring her sisters back to life. Still, kidnapping a child, stabbing and killing a somewhat innocent man is unreasonable.
But if a villain is poorly written it doesn't matter if you understand their motives. They're just doomed to fail because of how the writers didn't care to put much depth into said villain's character.
She's the most evil Disney villain because she is the most human and relatable (to anyone who's had an emotionally abusive, gaslighting partner or caregiver).
@@Furienna yes, I also tend to detest them too. Maybe it’s because I’m a mother myself and it breaks my heart to see good young people taken advantaged of and being made to feel inferior or have their self esteem shattered by these evil people. As someone who watched and enjoyed _The Lion Guard_ unironically, I love the origin given to my favorite villain, Scar. And the truth about Te Kā was an amazing twist that I never saw coming. But, I have to agree that first place can go to no other but Maleficent. After being the victim of such a cruel act, it's no wonder she became The Mistress of All Evil.
@@GamingKingdom91 The Lion Guard is brilliant. I love everything about it. It airs on Disney Junior, but you would not believe the lore contained in it. And it can get really dark in quite a few episodes.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Gothel should NOT be on this list! Her backstory wasn’t really that sad, it was monstrous. Also, Namaari having “good intentions?” Frankly, it’s all about how you flip the coin, but at least she redeemed herself in the end when all hope was rapidly fading away.
Naamari's "intentions" were the result of her, once again, thinking what was best for Fang -- which is what unleased the Drunns in the first place. This was exacerbated by her Cheif mother pressuring her to bring Sisu in along with the other Gem pieces as a desperate attempt to come out as heroes to the other lands and fix their past transgressions.

Hades really isn't evil actually, he’s just the god of the dead, left out and misunderstood, but hey, when all of Olympus is at war he can just chill in the under world. 😂
@@anthony9031 though the circumstances of acquiring his realm was rather questionable to the point of being unfair, he wasn't actually being outcasted, *he was just busy* because being host and entertaining the multitudinous dead (last count being 5 billion) isn't exactly an easy job

I've always found it interesting how some of the origin stories for these villains really makes you think "Well it's no wonder they became villains" Because their reasons for doing so are somewhat understandable, Although when it comes to villains like Captain Hook the hero (IE Peter Pan) is the real villain of the story, I think about it sometimes how looking from the villains point of view makes you realize that the protagonists are the villains of someone else's story.
@@AtarahDerek I know that, I'm saying that because of Peter's actions in cutting off Hook's hand he's become the villain of the Hook's personal story. Honestly I have no sympathy for Gothal…only because in the series it explains and shows just how selfish and self absorbed she is. She abandoned someone who was supposed to be close to her, and kidnapped a child, only to keep eternal beauty and stay young.
And let's not forget she betrayed Demanitus, a Roman scientist who was under no obligation to take her, a Germanic woman, under his wing but did so anyway.

I feel like Ursula gets too much leeway in these types of lists, she's dangerously power hungry as we clearly see in the climax and that's probably why she got banished in the first place.

I at first didn't seem to mind this video, but then you introduced Gothel; if she (regardless of her age) was dying of an incurable disease and the flower was the only thing that was saving her from it, then I would show sympathy. But she was a greedy old woman intent on having eternal life and I can't defend that. Also: 17. Yzma was doing was basically stealing the throne from Kuzco and was the reason he was what he was. 16. Adelaide was going to say he could have the fortune if he took care of the kittens, but he didn't wait long enough to hear that. Also, plenty of good people give their fortunes to animals; are you saying that everyone who doesn't give their staff/next of kin their fortune and instead to charity or animals are bad people? 15. Are you going to let this drop? Hook was a pirate who wanted to terrorise Neverland and Peter did what he did to protect it? 10. I still think taking out his feelings on an innocent child was pushing things a lot. 9. Ursula wanted Ariel to fail and did all that she could so that would happen.
Yes, Yzma only had herself to blame. It is very hard for me as a cat owner to sympathize with Edgar even if he's far from being as badass as many other Disney villains. Captain Hook actually killed two of his men and planned to make a bunch of kids walk the plank, and I don't think we can blame that on Peter Pan. It seems to me that Hades was evil already before he had Hercules kidnapped, which is why the other gods despised him. Besides, Zeus was actually happy to see him and wanted his brother to join the celebration (even though I can agree that joking about him was unnecessary and a bit cruel). And I don't think that Ursula would have helped others if Triton hadn't exiled her, because she didn't help anybody in her exile even though she had many chances to do so.
"Hey, Goob, wanna come over to my house today?" "They all hated me." I love how unreliable of a narrator Goob was, this line always made me laugh out loud. At least he eventually got a happy ending, despite his earlier tragic past.

Maleficent definitely hits number 1 since she wasn’t bad in the beginning, the selfishness of a human caused it and it’s no wonder she had a hard time trusting anyone. The Sanderson sisters should have been #2, even though they were wicked, they were just trying to stay together in the beginning and learning witchcraft was the only thing they could do to protect themselves and Winifred loves her sisters more than anything and giving up the Magica Maxima to be with them was very selfless

I really wish Disney would stop trying to retcon villains into misunderstood heroes. Bad childhood or mistreatment doesn't excuse it. I had a bad childhood. I was abused. I didn't become a monster. What? I’m sorry, but a few of these choices baffle me. Wise Wolf already explained why Gothel doesn’t work, but there were a few other problematic entries. It’s heavily implied that the souls are miserable because of Hades, and Yzma herself said that she ‘practically raised [Kuzco],’ so they both brought their misery onto themselves. Also, what was presented for Ursula was just one interpretation, and the source material was too vague for her to truly qualify. However, Scar’s entry may be the flimsiest of the bunch. The reason he got tricked in the first place was because the lion tempted him with power, meaning he always wanted to be king of the Pride Lands. Assuming that Scar was telling the truth about the origin of his name, (which knowing him, is debatable), Mufasa didn’t mean anything by calling him that, he was young and just being a brother. Plus, considering the fact that he took the alias as his own, it seems like he was less bothered by the nickname and more upset over not getting praised for (eventually) doing his job. And don’t forget, Kion got a bite just like Scar did, yet he didn’t turn evil. In Scar’s case, the bite never made a good lion bad, it made a bad lion worse.
Honestly, at this point in time, Disney seems allergic to having actually EVIL villains. Or having villains at all, it seems. They always have to have some sort of tragic backstory This is why Jack Horner is such a breath of fresh air in Puss in Boots. He has no tragic backstory. He's evil, he knows it, and he just doesn't care
Maleficent used to be evil just because. She was a fairy who wasn't invited to a party and took offense so she cursed a baby to death. That's it. No tragic r*pe allegory. Just pure pettiness taken to a whole other level and I love OG Maleficent for that. Sometimes a villain really can be that one dimensional and still be a great villian.
One of my coworkers pointed out with Jafar that he used to be this big, bombastic villain who knows he's evil, and they basically turned him into "What if Aladdin was evil"
But at the same time, they balance it out by not having actually GOOD heroes. Some heroes (like Peter Pan, Roger, King Stefan) started out by committing a serious crime that should have had them locked away in prison or sentenced to death, depending on the era and laws of the country at that time.
@@aarien_of_aurolyth 100% She was so evil, but absolutely fantastic. I hated the first Maleficent movie, and didn't bother watching the second. I felt like Disney was just backpedaling on their greatest villain, and in turn changing the entire dynamic of the animated Sleeping Beauty.
A. I love that they made Maleficent number one, her movie made me cry on how she was mistreated by someone she loved and trusted. B. Why did i keep thinking they were going to include Abuela Alma?
@@oddgirl2813 But it's hardly fair to be angry with someone with her backstory. She had to run a town and raise three children as a single mother on top of her trauma and thought that she did what she had to do for everybody's survival.
@@Furienna good point, but still. I have relatives like her who made me feel like I didn’t belong because I’m not like everyone else in my family. I think I’m just projecting my dislike for them to her, she’s a well written character though.
When you are experiencing the same thing yourself just like the three granddaughters (including Uncle Bruno too), you’ll sympathize with them and also be upset/angry/annoyed of their situation and the person who’s causing it (even though that person do or do not realize what he/she’s doing). I was also irritated of Abuela at first (I’m in almost the same situation with the granddaughters) and it’s a relief for me that she apologized and changed to better take care of the family without hurting anyone compared before. I hope this happy ending always happen in real life😞
Wait wait, first Mother Goslin and now Lady Tremaine as a tragic back story. No stop. She only married Cinderellas father because he had money. She didn't do it out of loneliness. Maybe a small part of her was lonely but her ambitions and true intentions started showing once Cinderellas father passed. She was selfish, greedy, manipulating, her along with Mother Gothel had anything but a tragic back story. This may be your opinion watch Mojo. However, this is one time that you are very wrong. Any true Disney fan would agree
I don't agree with the Mother Gothel from Tangled being sympathized. Aging and death are a part of life we must all accept. She was just being greedy, selfish, and being in denial about the way life works. She does not get one drop of empathy from me.
Among all the Disney Movies villains with tragic backstories, I really consider Demona and MacBeth's from Disney's Gargoyles as my favorite Disney Villains backstories.
Why is Mother Gothel even on this list? Her “sad backstory” is basically that she wanted to stay pretty and alive for hundreds of years. She then kidnaps a child just to stay young and pretty! I’m sorry but no…I have no sympathy and don’t feel sorry for Mother Gothel at all
Mother Gothel's backstory is not all that sympathetic. Though she may have been scared of dying, billions of people have lived and died before she was ever born, and billions more had died during the centuries she was using the flower's magic to stay young and beautiful. What was it that made her the exception to the rule? She was no more deserving of eternal life than anyone else. In fact, her selfishness and willingness to kidnap a child in order to maintain access to such magic makes her the least deserving of such a fate. No, there is nothing about Mother Gothel's backstory that makes her sympathetic in my eyes. She's just and bitter old woman who was willing to kill to get what she wanted out of some egotistic belief that she was the only person in the world that mattered. Heck, she didn't even use her time over the centuries to do good for others, or help society progress in any way. If she had, then maybe I would have shed a tear for her when she finally turned to dust.
In the Tangled series, Mother Gothel also abandoned her own biological daughter in order to stay young looking with the help of Rapunzel's hair, which turned the daughter into a villain. There are two kinds of kids born to famous parents. Those who flaunt their standing to get what they want, and those who try to separate themselves from the fact that they are children of famous parents in order to make an identity for themselves.
It hurt me when Gothel abandoned her daughter: with four years, Cassandra's shocked expression in her eyes and she dropped the music box.. Cothel is definitely the most evil, can not have sympathy

What makes Hook worse is that it's hinted in his story that he was once a Lost Boy who just wanted to grow up and possibly escaped being killed by Pan.
I don't know, the fact that Yzma isn't entirely on the level was shown in one of the clips used: Yzma: How could he do this to me? While I practically raised him! Kronk: Yeah, you'd think he would have turned out better. Which essentially shows how she was responsible for her own termination, since she instilled greed, laziness, and selfishness in Kuzco, all so she could sneakily assume power behind his back; she just got unlucky that he caught her usurping his throne.
The venom brought out Scar's desire for power, his greediness, his jealousy and annoyance towards Mufasa. However, the bite and resulting venom only removes moral restraints and amplifies negative traits and desires; for example, his jealously and annoyance for Mufasa had already existed, but the venom that brought it out more eventually turned it into murderous hatred. So the venom doesn't create Scar's evilness, only reveals it more as Scar had always being jealous and already wanted to overthrow Mufasa before he got his scar so you're a little incorrect on that. After double-crossing and slaughtering the lion, he reported to Mufasa, spinning the narrative in his favor to make him look like a hero (conveniently omitting the fact that he planned to team up with one of them to overthrow him), in order to garner sympathy and to be seen as superior to his brother. Even as the Lion Guard leader, he was quite arrogant after letting the Roar goes to his head, preferring to go out on patrols all alone instead of with his team and always expecting to be praised for his actions, showing little to no respect for his teammates. Though the venom in his scar may have influenced his evil nature, Scar was already proven to be envious and power-hungry before being infected as he was willing to work with the Strange Lion to overthrow Mufasa as king due to his jealousy. So Scar's backstory is not tragic and doesn't made him sympathy at all.
There's an official Disney lion king story book that directly contradicts the lion guard, making the show another alternate timeline. In the book, scar (initially known as nuka) received his scar as a result of his own stupidity. He was trying to get a group of african cape buffalo (known to african locals as the "black death" and "widowmaker" for good reason) to stampede and trample his brother to death (forshadowing) but failed thanks to his and mufasa's father stepping in and chewing out the buffalo for being an ass. Nuka was brutally gored in the face by the buffalo just before his father showed up, leaving him permanently scarred, and leading him to change his name to "Scar".
Mother Gothal, Ursula, Scar, Tremaine, Eyzma (who ruled with an iron fist), should not be on this list. None of them deserve any pity or regret. These so called backstories have never been proven cannon, nor is there any real proof they suffered enough to cause the atrocities they caused. As for Cruella and Maleficient these are NOT the originals. Both are Multiverse counterparts of the originals. Cruella in the first movie treated her henchmen like crap and barley knew them. While the one in her movie knew them for years and treated them like family. Maleficent in the original was based more on the fairytale; where she cursed Aurora because she was not invited to the party. And she never knew where Aurora was when she was growing up, only bidding her time until her curse took affect.
Gothel’s backstory wasn’t really tragic, it was selfless more than anything. The fact that she took Rapunzel and used her hair(since she inherited the flower’s magic) and used it to keep herself young wasn’t right.

Captain Hook was evil long before Peter cut off his hand. There was a reason too Hook when he first showed up captured tootles and the boys to force them to work on the ship. When Peter came to rescue them he held tootles over the crocodile 🐊 and the rope had broke holding tootles. Thankfully Tinkerbell saved him but Peter was angry and hurt he thought he killed Tootles and challenged him to a duel which lost his hand.

Let's not forget Iracebeth of Crims/the Red Queen. Yes, she was a tyrannical ruler, but can you blame her? Her sister blamed her for stealing tarts, and then when she tried to run away, she hit her head on a clock which deformed her head and screwed up her personality. She just wanted to be loved, as she said "That's all I've ever wanted to hear" when Mirana told her she loved her. And the look on her face when the Jabberwocky gets decapitated is just heartbreaking. There's a reason she's my second favorite character from that movie.

My favorite story from this top was that of "Mike Yagoobian" Happy Thursday Ms Mojo, and very nice top as well. take care and see you soon for more, greetings from Colombia.
considering "Snuff Out the Light", Yzma's backstory seems more tragic also, agree with you regarding Yzma's anger about getting fired: technically that day was the "eve of [Kuzco's] 18th birthday", hence Yzma was still in charge and was just doing her job description of regent is it possible Goob was a Soviet refugee?? his name sounds Slavic, and his orphan status seemed likely considering in the original "Sleeping Beauty" the Evil Fairy wasn't invited to the christening because everyone thought she was dead (nobody has heard from her for many years), that's tragic enough
It is an interesting point that Kuzco still was a minor even if he would become off age the next day. But he was obviously already in power since he could fire Yzma, so...
@@Furienna even though he's still hours away from ruling on his own right, firing Yzma would've set off a power vacuum, however short the regency would've been... though I do agree with you, Yzma can't do anything about it since Kuzco was the Sapa Inca, who were basically the Son of the Sun (Inti; similar to Pharoah who was deified as the human incarnation of Horus on the mortal plane)

Disney villains just aren't the same anymore though. They're either sorry of bad and turn good or not even present really. Which means no more villain songs! 😢
If you ask me, this is the kind of list I would've created: 20. Tess - Camp Rock (She even becomes quite nice by the end and better in the second film). 19. Zoe [A.K.A. The Boogeyperson] - Don't Look Under the Bed 18. Shere Khan - The Jungle Book (Humans attacked his jungle and now, he's got one in his forest - Mowgli - so it's somewhat understandable he'd be angry.) 17. Stinky Pete - Toy Story 2 (He thought that no-one would want to play with him and the only way for him to be admired was in a museum with Woody.) 16. Kissin' Kate Barlow - Holes (She lost her love interest, Sam, after the owner of Greenlake - "Trout" Walker - killed him because he was racist and hated how she liked Sam instead of him.) 15. Sue Tenny/Gwen Grayson/Royal Pain - Sky High (In a school of other super-powered individuals, she was an outcast as her powers were like no others and was ridiculed for this.) 14. The Sanderson Sisters - Hocus Pocus 2 (Way to flip the original film on it's head, Disney.) 13. Davy Jones - Pirates of the Caribbean (And we thought Barbossa had it bad.) 12. Namaari - Raya and the Last Dragon 11. Estella Miller [A.K.A. Cruella De Vil] - Cruella (Turning another film on it's head.) 10. Speckles - G-Force (He wanted to destroy humanity as they destroyed his family.) 9. Charles F. Muntz (He spent his whole life trying to find a rare creature and mocked when he failed.) 8. Xianniang - Mulan 2020 7. Nuka - The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride 6. Mayor Bellwether - Zootopia (She's faced with not being taken seriously and so it's quite understandable.) 5. Lady Tremaine - Cinderella 2015 4. Michael "Goob" Yagoobian - Meet the Robinsons 3. Professor Callaghan/Yokai - Big Hero 6 (He couldn't even look his daughter in the eye when he was being arrested after she'd returned.) 2. Te Ka - Moana 1. Maleficent - Maleficent Also, I'm not sure but maybe Cassim - Aladdin's Dad from Aladdin and the King of Thieves - should've maybe been included; all he wanted to do was help his family and didn't know any other way to do so apart from becoming a thief. Also, I think maybe we should get a villain like from the old days of Disney who were genuinely evil and didn't have some sad backstory (even if people have said those that do are the most interesting).
Fun fact about Moana is that it gives a fantastical explanation for an event in Polynesian history known as the Long Pause. For a millennium, there weren't any ocean voyages. You could say that Moana ended the Long Pause because she kickstarted a new age of exploration now that Te Fiti had been restored to her true self.
I'm so glad to see that The Lion King 2 is on the list. I feel that the second one is totally underrated and deserves more recognition. Also I feel sorry for Nuka. To have your own mother neglect you and never acknowledge anything you do and offer even the smallest amount of praise or appreciation is one of the worst feelings in the world. Especially if you die knowing she probably never would've loved you as much as your other siblings. 💔😔😢
Ursula's backstory according to Disney itself (revealed through the musical) is that she was Triton's sister and killed all of her other siblings to try to be queen, but she couldn't kill him and she was exiled. I don't think that gets any sympathy from me.
Why is Mother Gothel on the list? There’s nothing sad about her. I’d honestly put her REAL child Cassandra who was abandoned by her so gothel could have repunzel
I think Mother Gothel's backstory is pitiful , but not sad. The only sad part of it is revealed in the sequel animated series, which reveals she had her own daughter during the time she had kidnapped Rapunzel; she neglected and abandoned her daughter to spend time with Rapunzel, which she only did to maintain her unnatural youth.
That's a lie, that wasn't the first time Yzma was trying to rule the country behind Cuzcos back. If you watch the movie and actually listen he says "you're doing it again" he did in fact give her a chance to stop doing it
the saddest thing about Hades is his being turned into a villain and analogue of the Christian Devil (as per the Percy Jackson movies and the Clash of the Titans reboot); someone had to attend to people who died. If they'd stuck to Victor Hugo, Frollo would have been a hell of a sad back story, with him and his brother the only survivor of their family after a pestilence and a victim of celibate repression.
Ezma was given at least once previous chance. Because when The Emperor walks up to her, he says, "You're doing it again" which leads us to believe that she had tried to usurp his power previously.
No, Gothel doesn't get a pass. The only reason she knew about the sundrop rampion is because her former mentor, whom she betrayed, was studying and searching for it. Her mentor, who was Roman, and as such was under no obligation to take on female students--especially Celtic or Germanic students--but did so anyway because he recognized their passion, determination and intelligence. When he gave up his search because of the allure of corrupt power the flower represented (a conclusion he reached after seeing what just searching for it had done to his best friend), Gothel and two of his other students turned on him and unleashed a demon to destroy him and the city he founded (they were unsuccessful). Gothel has been an enemy of Corona for 2,000 years. There is nothing tragic about her backstory. She has no Freudian excuses. And let's not forget that she threw her biological daughter to the wolves, so to speak, in order to get away with Rapunzel. She is not a sympathetic villain.
To be fair though, most of that information about Gothel doesn't appear in the movie. Neither her mentor nor her daughter nor indeed hardly anything about what she had done before she kidnapped Rapunzel is mentioned there. That said, we see enough already in the movie to learn that not only did Gothel want eternal youth for selfish reasons. She kidnapped a baby too and kept her "daughter" imprisoned for eighteen years and stabbed Eugene in front of Rapunzel's eyes. There are no good reasons to sympathize with her...
Gothel? You're joking right? She was using a flower that wasn't even hers to remain young and didn't care if the queen died. She also literally stole the crown princess just for her hair
One of them was also Randall Boggs from Monsters Inc. He was Mike's best friend and roommate in the university until they got in separated teams at the scare games. When Sulley scared a robot, his roar was so loud that unintentionally made Randall collapse into a hearted carpet making people to make fun of him and leading ROR to kick him out of the team. This made Randall to get filled with anger and hatred towards Sulley as well towards Mike.
Alright go with me down a WEIRD rabbit hole for a minute. Let's say Ursulas story was somewhat like Maleficents in the sense at one time she and King Triton had a thing for each other, maybe even loved each other and maybe at one point before she turned into how she looks now, she was quite beautiful. But she started meddling in dark magic that shouldn't have been meddled with. Perhaps even doing so to somehow help Triton out. However, when the spell backfired causing her to turn into who she is and her appearance, being the evidence of what Triton had asked and him not wanting anyone to know about what he had asked, he exiles her from the kingdom to hide his indiscretion so to speak and this has caused a hatred for each other. Just a crazy rabbit hole theory to think about
Same, But you know what even though the Sanderson sisters did evil things I think when they first became witches they were more like antiheroes than villains.
@@coryanthony2912 Brought up has nothing to do with it. His jealously and desires to be king made him go down that dark path with the venom helping it part of the way by revealing it more despite once leader of The Lion Guard which is a perfect life that he gives up on through wanting to be king and destroys it with the roar.
I like MEET THE ROBINSONS and MALEFICENT. I also love the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN franchise, RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON, CRUELLA, HERCULES, MULAN, CINDERELLA, BIG HERO 6, and MOANA.
Where is the man who got abused by his father and brothers on a daily basis both phyically and mostly mentally and being told hell never be good for anything else than being a punching bag because hes too soft and is forced to be trapped their for them to abuse him forever ?
1. Tangled 2. The Little Mermaid 3. The Lion King 2 Simba's Pride 4. Maleficent 5. Moana 6. The Lion King 1994 7. Cinderella 2015 8. Hercules 9. Hocus Pocus 2 My Favorite Best Disney movies with the Best villains ever
Balthazar was just dumb. He tried to kill cats that got the inheritance when all he had to do was wait since there is no way that would work legally or all he had to do was be the one to take care of the cats and he would have all the money anyway.
Yeah...Gothel doesn't get an excuse. She's just a greedy manipulative abuser. If you want a good Tangled villian with a tragic backstory, Varian would be the better option (albeit, he was ultimately redeemed in the end)

In the original "Little Mermaid" by Hans Christian Andersen, the Sea Witch wasn’t a villain at all. She was neutral and let the mermaid know what the consequences of her actions would be. She wasn’t out to get revenge on anyone.
true, she even gave aid to her sisters (at the expense of their hairs)
Also doesn't Ariel die at the end? She fails to get the prince ensuring she'll stay as a human and the spell that made her into one transforms her into literal sea foam due to the spell's steep condition.
@@Off-with-a-bang
1. yes but her name isn't Ariel
2. the original ending actually has a religious theme: after dissolving into sea foam (which was actually mermaids' destined fates), TLM is revealed to have become a spirit, and is told that she would have a human soul and then ascend to heaven after doing good deeds for mankind for a set time period

@@rodrigojassoledezma6144 That's another reason why she gets no sympathy from me.
Me either, Mother g is a horrible person, she gaslights Finn Ryder and Rapazel

As kids we used to praise the heroes. As adults we finally understood the villains.
Right I understand both sides
But if a villain is poorly written it doesn't matter if you understand their motives.
They're just doomed to fail because of how the writers didn't care to put much depth into said villain's character.
The irony
yeah sometimes it does take one bad day to change someone ...... just as some folks become villains by a bad day
Yeah I’m a kid and I can understand villains
I adored Maleficent since childhood. Seeing Disney explore her backstory so richly and fairly, I loved it. My favorite movie.
Gothel can never be redeemed, she was completely selfish rather than sharing what she found and never truly cared for Rapunzel.
I agree. Mother Gothel’s the only Disney villain I genuinely hate. To me other villains such as Hades and Yzma are more charming to my tastes.
She's the most evil Disney villain because she is the most human and relatable (to anyone who's had an emotionally abusive, gaslighting partner or caregiver).
@@KatherineXIX There are some other Disney villains like that though, like Frollo and Lady Tremaine and Madame Medusa.
@@Furienna yes, I also tend to detest them too.

Wendy is the actual protagonist of Peter Pan. It's her story, not his. Peter won't learn. Learning brings about growth, and Peter refuses to grow.

I at first didn't seem to mind this video, but then you introduced Gothel; if she (regardless of her age) was dying of an incurable disease and the flower was the only thing that was saving her from it, then I would show sympathy. But she was a greedy old woman intent on having eternal life and I can't defend that. Also:
In Yzma's entry Kuzco said that she was doing it again indicating that he's given her chances in the past and he was tired of it
"Hey, Goob, wanna come over to my house today?"
"They all hated me."
I love how unreliable of a narrator Goob was, this line always made me laugh out loud. At least he eventually got a happy ending, despite his earlier tragic past.
Imo I think him failing to catch the game winning ball made him narrow-minded of his surroundings on life.

He definitely deserves to be here more than fucking mother gothel that's for sure
They always have to have some sort of tragic backstory
This is why Jack Horner is such a breath of fresh air in Puss in Boots.
@@sslssg247 And they shouldn't have done that so I agree.
A. I love that they made Maleficent number one, her movie made me cry on how she was mistreated by someone she loved and trusted.
B. Why did i keep thinking they were going to include Abuela Alma?
Abuela Alma is not a villain.
@@Furienna yeah I know, she just made me so angry

I hope this happy ending always happen in real life😞
I always find the villains more interesting than the heroes.Let’s me honest I prefer them!
Even as a kid, I was fascinated by the villians more than the heroes
Me neither
146: I feel bad for Cassandra for sure but NOT her mom
Among all the Disney Movies villains with tragic backstories, I really consider Demona and MacBeth's from Disney's Gargoyles as my favorite Disney Villains backstories.
Dr Doofenshmirtz has the worst backstory of any Disney property be it movie or tv show
Why is Mother Gothel even on this list?
It is so nice to see Nuka getting some love! I always felt so bad for him.
Only years later as a teenager discovering her past since over the years since adopted by the captain, she forgot about her mother.

I don't know, the fact that Yzma isn't entirely on the level was shown in one of the clips used:
Yzma: How could he do this to me?
Let's not forget the fact that Gothel abandoned her own daughter the night she kidnapped Rapunzel.

Have you done Top 20 Animated Villains who used to fall in love with a woman?
What, that's a random topic.
My favorite story from this top was that of "Mike Yagoobian" Happy Thursday Ms Mojo, and very nice top as well. take care and see you soon for more, greetings from Colombia.
considering "Snuff Out the Light", Yzma's backstory seems more tragic
also, agree with you regarding Yzma's anger about getting fired: technically that day was the "eve of [Kuzco's] 18th birthday", hence Yzma was still in charge and was just doing her job description of regent
is it possible Goob was a Soviet refugee?? his name sounds Slavic, and his orphan status seemed likely
considering in the original "Sleeping Beauty" the Evil Fairy wasn't invited to the christening because everyone thought she was dead (nobody has heard from her for many years), that's tragic enough
It is an interesting point that Kuzco still was a minor even if he would become off age the next day.
But he was obviously already in power since he could fire Yzma, so...
@@Furienna
even though he's still hours away from ruling on his own right, firing Yzma would've set off a power vacuum, however short the regency would've been...
though I do agree with you, Yzma can't do anything about it since Kuzco was the Sapa Inca, who were basically the Son of the Sun (Inti; similar to Pharoah who was deified as the human incarnation of Horus on the mortal plane)

do all those people you mention of *even existed?*
begone you gaslighters and abusers, for those nonsense you speak of are *pure historical fiction*
Disney villains just aren't the same anymore though. They're either sorry of bad and turn good or not even present really. Which means no more villain songs! 😢
Hopefully Wish and future films has better evil Disney villains.
I’m surprised the Red Queens story from Through the Looking Glass wasn’t mentioned, her story was pretty sad if I remember correctly
I think that Maleficent is the Disney Villian with the most tragic back story.
If you ask me, this is the kind of list I would've created:
20. Tess - Camp Rock (She even becomes quite nice by the end and better in the second film).
19. Zoe [A.K.A. The Boogeyperson] - Don't Look Under the Bed
18. Shere Khan - The Jungle Book (Humans attacked his jungle and now, he's got one in his forest - Mowgli - so it's somewhat understandable he'd be angry.)
17. Stinky Pete - Toy Story 2 (He thought that no-one would want to play with him and the only way for him to be admired was in a museum with Woody.)
16. Kissin' Kate Barlow - Holes (She lost her love interest, Sam, after the owner of Greenlake - "Trout" Walker - killed him because he was racist and hated how she liked Sam instead of him.)
15. Sue Tenny/Gwen Grayson/Royal Pain - Sky High (In a school of other super-powered individuals, she was an outcast as her powers were like no others and was ridiculed for this.)
14. The Sanderson Sisters - Hocus Pocus 2 (Way to flip the original film on it's head, Disney.)
13. Davy Jones - Pirates of the Caribbean (And we thought Barbossa had it bad.)
12. Namaari - Raya and the Last Dragon
11. Estella Miller [A.K.A. Cruella De Vil] - Cruella (Turning another film on it's head.)
10. Speckles - G-Force (He wanted to destroy humanity as they destroyed his family.)
9. Charles F. Muntz (He spent his whole life trying to find a rare creature and mocked when he failed.)
8. Xianniang - Mulan 2020
7. Nuka - The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride
6. Mayor Bellwether - Zootopia (She's faced with not being taken seriously and so it's quite understandable.)
5. Lady Tremaine - Cinderella 2015
4. Michael "Goob" Yagoobian - Meet the Robinsons
3. Professor Callaghan/Yokai - Big Hero 6 (He couldn't even look his daughter in the eye when he was being arrested after she'd returned.)
2. Te Ka - Moana
1. Maleficent - Maleficent
Also, I'm not sure but maybe Cassim - Aladdin's Dad from Aladdin and the King of Thieves - should've maybe been included; all he wanted to do was help his family and didn't know any other way to do so apart from becoming a thief.
My mom and I just started watching an Angelina Jolie movie and then I saw this new video had been posted!! Perfect timing!
James Woods was fabulous as Hades!
Gothel kept the flower's power for herself though...
Ursula's backstory according to Disney itself (revealed through the musical) is that she was Triton's sister and killed all of her other siblings to try to be queen, but she couldn't kill him and she was exiled. I don't think that gets any sympathy from me.
she is also responsible for Ariel’s mom’s death
Moanas grandma is also my spirit animal
Why is Mother Gothel on the list? There’s nothing sad about her. I’d honestly put her REAL child Cassandra who was abandoned by her so gothel could have repunzel
I think Mother Gothel's backstory is pitiful , but not sad. The only sad part of it is revealed in the sequel animated series, which reveals she had her own daughter during the time she had kidnapped Rapunzel; she neglected and abandoned her daughter to spend time with Rapunzel, which she only did to maintain her unnatural youth.
Yeah, that revelation in cruella had Star Wars written all over it. Instead of “ I am your father “, it was “ she’s your mother”

That's a lie, that wasn't the first time Yzma was trying to rule the country behind Cuzcos back. If you watch the movie and actually listen he says "you're doing it again" he did in fact give her a chance to stop doing it
16:32 read his pure evil wiki page. You’ll see that he still became evil by choice. If anything, the venom merely _accelerated_ his turn to villainy.
the saddest thing about Hades is his being turned into a villain and analogue of the Christian Devil (as per the Percy Jackson movies and the Clash of the Titans reboot); someone had to attend to people who died.
@@Furienna But they also accepted Scar's TLG backstory, so they have no excuse not to accept TTS/RTA for Gothel's backstory.
@@AtarahDerek Okay, good point.
But I guess that whoever made this list hadn't seen "Tangled: The Series".
I actually love the movie maleficent it's really great, especially when she gives the kiss of true love waking Aurora up
Gothel? You're joking right? She was using a flower that wasn't even hers to remain young and didn't care if the queen died. She also literally stole the crown princess just for her hair
I personally loved the backstory to the Evil Queen in Once Upon a Time I'm surprised she wasn't mentioned
Top 10 Amphibia Characters.
Lady Tremaine gives me the creeps, specially the animated one.
While Robert Callaghan/Yokai may be one of the weekest Twist Villains ever in my personal opinion he's kind of the Mr. Freeze of Disney Villains.

I actually wouldn't say that Namaari is a Disney villain at all. I would say she's more of a misunderstood antagonist.
Just a crazy rabbit hole theory to think about
I love crazy rabbit hole theories.
Who is Tridant?
@@danielledewitt1 Ariel’s dad
@@jkrissyla Wow you can’t even get Tritons name right. Shame on you.
I feel like Both Lady Tremaine and Maleficent have a smiliar backstory cause they both lost people that they love and became Cruel.
Anyone else fell in love with Hocus Pocus 2?
I love Hocus Pocus 2, its one of my favorites next to the oringel
Same, But you know what even though the Sanderson sisters did evil things I think when they first became witches they were more like antiheroes than villains.
@@TheCommenterDragon Though feeding on children' souls is no excuse since it's horrifying.
disney needs to give up making d**b movies (like the new ariel movie) and make villain backstories instead
Honestly….can’t the villains just be villains? Why do we need a grey area or sympathetic back story?
We don't need those things.
I feel for Scar the most. Anyone who has a siblings are usually confined in the shadows, while someone else is given the spotlight.
Except that Scar is beyond tragic and his actions are proof of that, not to mention cares for no one but himself.
Exactly. So if he was brought up better, he wouldn’t have gone down that dark path that led to his end.
I’m sorry but Mother Gothel? Lmao no. She was just scared to grow old.
Where is the man who got abused by his father and brothers on a daily basis both phyically and mostly mentally and being told hell never be good for anything else than being a punching bag because hes too soft and is forced to be trapped their for them to abuse him forever ?

Good stuff. I’ve seen many Mojo lists. But PLEASE spend more time on your #1’s. It’s far too short for the bests of Mojo lists.
Balthazar was just dumb. He tried to kill cats that got the inheritance when all he had to do was wait since there is no way that would work legally or all he had to do was be the one to take care of the cats and he would have all the money anyway.
Besides, it is really hard for me as a cat owner to sympathize with someone who threatens cats.
Yeah...Gothel doesn't get an excuse. She's just a greedy manipulative abuser. If you want a good Tangled villian with a tragic backstory, Varian would be the better option (albeit, he was ultimately redeemed in the end)
