At the time of WW1, even in England, "spunk" would have been an old-fashioned upper-class word for courage / vitality etc. But for over half a century, it's just meant "sperm". But the double-entendre would have been well understood at the time of this series.
"...just turn your brain off and enjoy it." Ehmm, there is a little more to it than that, isn't there? It is spoken comedy, not Keystone Cops, and it does have a social commentary shade to it.

Dasani tried to launch their brand in the UK. Their marketing campaign included ‘bottled spunk” and “can’t live without spunk”. Didn’t last very long! Plus it was found to be filtered water and not spring with heavy amounts of chemicals! A similar incident happened (shown on Top Gear) when a Swiss company improved a Jaguar sportscar and named it “The Growler”. Along with it’s huge price tag, that didn’t sell much either. Words and phrases can have different meanings in different languages and cultures.
Blackadder and Monty Python shall never get old. If you ever want some new material to react to, I recommend Spike Milligan. he was the comedian Monty Python listened to when they were young. The best word I've ever heard to describe his humor is "anarchic".

3rd & 4th series by far the best,Stephen frys speckled jim,bring in the murderer, that's him,that's him. It's absolutely classic..

Monty Python has about a 25% hit rate for god sketches. Spike Milligan Q series was far better. Blackadder Ser 1 was really bad
Spike's Pakistani Daleks sketch is one of the funniest things I've seen.

The finest British comedy series ever, Rowan Atkinson is a national treasure.
I think spunk used to mean the same here which is why George is using it but it means something else now to modern British ears.
