do you keep it on the floor ? there is 3 ps5s in my house and after 2 years I took one apart and it was clean . you either have yours on the floor or in a very dirty area just clean around the ps5 and you shouldn't have any issues . atleast your not overheating now but just keep the area clean and you should be fine .
Been having issues with my system shutting down during games. I spent an eternity bouncing between videos to take apart my ps5 just to get stuck putting it back together because I couldn't find a video that clearly showed where the screws went. You are my hero.
@@jethEngine exactly.. compressor or compressed air in a can. It should do the job good enough, especially if You do this regulary e.g. every half a year. For me it works perfectly fine.
I used to this this was hard to clean but it's not at all. You only have to pay attention to the screws and that's it. Pull out the fan clean it with a tooth brush and put it back
Easily followed and completed, no issues after about a month. I did the fan cleaning initially and it was ok for about a week and then started shutting off randomly even with non hardware intensive games. Fully disassembled and cleaned took about 1 1/2 hours with following the guide step by step.
Awesome too hear. I am about to do the same. Last time I only cleaned the fan but also learned the power supply needs to be cleaned as well. I'm not having any issues with the console but know it is time to do preventative maintenance just like on a car.
On the "warranty seal" "Most consumers don’t know that these stickers are actually illegal-and that’s because manufacturers don’t want you to. Under the 1975 Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, the Feds mandated that you can open your electronics without voiding the warranty, regardless of what the language of your warranty says. That makes all of that inconsistent (albeit crafty) language used by the 50 manufacturers surveyed by the U.S. PIRG illegal." - from iFixit
That's true but good luck trying to get Sony to honor the warranty with that sticker broken. Just because they SHOULD follow the law doesn't mean they will.
Man I can’t believe I did it! I followed your tutorial step by step and was able to clean my 2 year old PS5. I successfully cleaned it. You saved me time and money because I only spent ¥1000 around $7 USD. Also you saved me the headache of having to search for a repair place or sent it to Sony after warranty which would have cost I don’t know how much. I was also considering buying a new PS5. But for around $7 I bought a cleaning kit which included the required screw driver, brush and plastic pryers. My PS5 kept crashing as I just bought Stellar Blade on launch. I couldn’t play the game because my PS5 kept shutting off no matter what position or no white panels. Now after clearing it I’m sure there will be no problems! I really appreciate the video! I encourage anyone who is having a sudden shutting off problem to deep clean the PS5. All the dust is located on the radiator and power supply! You can’t just do a vacuum clean! I wanted to add that I knocked it out in 1 hour and a half! My system is also quieter!

Thank you so much for this video. I was having problems with my ps5 randomly shutting off and I was getting little nervous that it might eventually die. Then I came across this video and I was afraid to disassemble the whole console by myself but I went with my girlfriend to the store and bought the necessary tools. It was really simple all you need to do is carefully follow video and instructions and it will be easy. I haven’t cleaned my ps5 in 3 years and the amount of dust was crazy. My ps5 works beautifully now and I am so happy and proud at the same time. People, if you are afraid don’t be. Just follow the video and you’ll be fine. Thx again for this video dude! You rock 😊
Aside from my son's controller I just fixed because of you ( commented on the appropriate video) , yesterday I was able to clean and restore my ps5 because of this tutorial ! Since it was still warranty I didn't remove the warranty tag but I went inside from the ventilation hole with my hand and a little vacuum cleaner + baby wipes and brush, took me 1 hour to get the dust that had accumulated but in the end, after restarting, I got no freezing of the screen (happened 4 times in 2 hours, everytime only after 10 min of gameplay) and my kids play on it since this morning with no incident whatsoever, its even more silent that it was before. Couldn't be more grateful of the precious info you offer us the stranger on the net - stay safe!
Little advice, pay close attention to the bluetooth wires, the long white and black wired in the video (in my ps5 they were white and blue). If they are in the wrong position you can pinch the wire and loose bluetooth. Dont let the wires sit the way his are, he probably had the same problem
10/10 video just cleaned my PS5 last night with this guide. I bought my PS5 on launch date so it’s one of the first models. I’ve done simpler cleaning by wiping down the covers, fans, dust catchers but it wasn’t enough. i kept on experiencing stuttering, frame drops, and randomly turning off. I took my phone camera and sticked it inside so i can see the power supply and oh boy it was loaded with dust. and at the point i knew i had to disassemble it completely. i strongly recommend ordering a tool kit from amazon i had every exact tool he had. made it a breeze
I just need to clean my PS5 Fans since its dusty,it’s definitely time since its been a year, every month I remove Side panels to wipe and dust it off but I never cleaned inside the fan so I’m glad you showed me how easy it is to remove the Fan
Couldn’t play Fallout 4 for more than 20mins without it shutting off from overheating. Cleaned out the dust with you step by step, thanks a ton! Playing 1-2h sessions now and enjoying my free time without ice packs on my ps5 LOL
Guys follow this tutorial because it makes it easier for you. Despite me being very insecure with electronics I took the console all apart, the most trouble I had was with the largest cable that connects to the motherboard but hey I’m not an expert. I followed his video step by step and deep cleaned the ps5 and now it’s very quiet. Thank you!
@@erwinwayne3129 For sure you're going to need the T8 Torx and a #1 (small) Phillips screwdriver. For the prying tools, don't use anything metal. You could use a small piece of hardwood (don't use wood that might break off) or other hard plastic piece you can make at home. The magnetic thing, meh, I'd use some blue painter's tape and write on it where they came out of, or draw a diagram on a piece of paper. The tweezers are handy but don't have to be anything special; the ones he used do make it a bit easier but you're in no hurry if you're DIYing it. Just take care as the ribbons are delicate. The brush can be any small, natural rustle brush (not a plastic bristle or nylon - which is also plastic). I would also get a can of dry compressed air to make the job a lot easier and faster getting dust out of places the brush can't go. So yeah, there are easier ways but the T8 and the small Phillips are two things you can't do this job without. Also note about how tight the screws are when taking them out. There's nothing in here that needs to be "muscled" back together. Snug is fine.
@@erwinwayne3129 man the furthest I went was taking the fan out and cleaning it. Even then I didn't completely disconnect the fan , I cleaned a bit of the heatsink too but not all of it obviously. I had mine for over an year now and it keeps overheating on me when I play graphically demanding games like horizon forbidden west. I can play a maximum of 1 hour on that game before the warning pops up. It doesn't shut down or anything it just gives the heating warning after like an hour of playing and ever since I cleaned the fan it has been a bit better but again last night it happened. I wanna deep clean it but I have 0 experience with electronics. And the fact that I once tried to fix a ps4 controller by taking it apart , ended up completely breaking it does not help at all 😭. I can't give it to a repair shop to clean it cuz I'm from the Maldives and we don't have any advanced repair shops and stuff
Just completed my first deep clean of my PS5. Was purchased 6 months after release. The amount of dust on the cooling vents was insane. Took just about 2 hours to complete while watching your video. Easy to follow steps and straight to the point.
I just went the full mile... as my console was overheating after like 20 mins of use.. loads of dust blocking the whole power supply.. thank for this video.. was slighty different screws etc for digi version but nothing too different.. successfully cleaned and assembled working fine.. thank you again

@@bigmike8375 yo I have a question, do you keep yours horizontal or vertical? Amazing! My PS5 couldn't run a modern game for more than 10 minutes without crashing. Nearly bought a new one since my warranty is expired and Sony support didn't want to help, but found this video and decided to give it a try before spending a ton on a new console. After cleaning a truly horrifying amount of dust out of the radiator it runs good as new. Taking it apart was way easier than I expected thanks to the clear walkthrough here. Thank you!

Bro thank you for actually showing where the last screw is under the warranty label. I’ve watch over 10 different vids and none of them explained that. I thought I was going crazy
They should design the PS5, in such a way that every cooling inlet should have an external serviceable filter, that can replaced or cleaned, without opening up the console. The filters would keep most dust, fibers and hair from entering the console. Also the PS5 would alert you, when a certain temperature is reached that the filters need servicing.
A filter would restrict airflow though such as why custom pc builds don't have filters. I feel these machines should already have radiator liquid cooled CPu's at this point.
@@trilexfix Eh i have filters on all sides of my PC case and it's a top of the line PC with an RTX 4090 which generate alot of heat. No issue with cooling what-so-ever. So i think a PS5 should be able to add some filters or design it in such a way that it would be possible.
💯 percent works...I was unable to play apex since season 14 started couldn't play cod or fortnite only 2k because it was the ps4 version...I sat here and follow this video step by step( no you do not need the gadgets he got for disassemble..just the t8 with whole and small flilips or flat head..but anyway I took it apart my radiators was totally filled with dust and the power supply holes was a dust blanket couldn't even see it had holes cleaned it all up now I'm 2hrs in on apex with no shut off thank you for a well put together video
I grabbed some Q-Tips and cleaned the fan without taking anything apart besides the outside plates and it’s 100 functioning better no need to take it all the way apart.
And if you end up with some extra parts when your done putting it back together make sure you give yourself a pat on the back you just found a more efficient way to build it than the manufacturer.... Lol

My PS5 has reached over 2 years of usage, and recently, it's been unexpectedly shutting down 5 to 6 times daily. I have to unplug the AC cord every time and perform a hard reboot. Following your guide step by step was truly nerve-wracking, but it was certainly necessary. The interior of my console had significantly more dust than yours. It appears to be functioning well now. With a vacuum cleaner with a small hose, you can clean by inserting from the cooler area. Does a pretty good job without loosing the warranty. I do it with mine every 2 months!
Holy Moses, I did it. Thanks man. I was shitting bricks the whole time. Taking apart something that's $500+ is nerve racking but my little one being sad because he can't play is heartbreaking.
Ive just been doing the fan over the last year and a half but noticed today its a state in mine... A real state. Ive ordered the kit and will be back to your video soon. Thank you.
Good video! The amount of dust clogging the power supply and radiator was immense. No wonder my console only stayed on an hour at a time. Now i can play the new God of War in peace. Thanks!
Hi Great video, quick question at 10:21 when you are removing the two screws for the back housing, can we do that without removing the motherboard and everything? So basically just remove the fan, disconnect the cables out in the front and then take out the radiator from behind? I have searched everywhere and nobody seems to be looking at this angle. if you could do that it would become very easy to clean out the radiator.
It’s not possible cause u have that one ribbon cable at the bottom that’s under the metal housing and another small one that is not covered…So indeed u need to remove the metal plating and then the housing
I don’t even have the same model (imagine my frustration when I got it completely disassembled), and I was still able to use your video to swap my supply out. Thank you.
Got the “ps5 is too hot” message yesterday for the first time. GLAD I FOUND THIS VIDEO!! If you’re skittish about disassembling your console, follow this video SECOND BY SECOND and you’ll be good👍🏾
As someone who had to replace the top screen of a launch day 3DS, this is SO MUCH easier to do maintenance on. If you’re scared of disassembling your PS5, don’t be. Once you start doing it, it’s as simple as a Lego set. If I, a college dropout with minimal hardware experience can do it this easily, you can do it with none, no problem. Thank you so much for this tutorial!
Hey everyone so I definitely had this problem since probablyyyy… September of 2021 I had my ps5 day 1 so yeah first Bach first trash lol but if anyone is having a problem with their ps5 overheating or just shutting off from playing a ps5 game (not ps4 games) then it’s most likely that your ps5 liquid metal is fucked. Don’t worry you can fix it well not you but if you take it to a really good repair shop they can help. Please make sure the store has great reviews and if you Bought it from Best Buy you can actually take it to geek squad and they’ll fix it for you I paid $60 to replace the liquid metal and my ps5 doesn’t feel as hot as it was before. I hope this helps to who ever is stressing cause I’ve been stressing for months and I’m now getting it fixed you know. Clean your fan still but dismantling it if you’re not a professional I suggest you take it somewhere that actually knows what they’re doing. I wish you all the best ❤️
Had to do a deep clean of my ps5 yesterday and have to say this whole tutorial was super helpful and was able to clean every nook. Got it working like new and no more overheating. Thanks a ton for this vid
@imkushpakmann8931 Because of how much dust it accumulates in the radiator through the vents. When there's more than enough it automatically shuts off the ps5. The amount of years its been out has no relevance if the whole issue is that it's a dust magnet
Had an issue when my ps5 kept overheating and turns off by itself recklessly. Tries the dust off products and everything and still did the same thing. Finally while the plates of the ps5 were off, I took my electric leaf blower and blew into the ps5 on low setting. This fixed it perfectly and haven't had a problem since. This is coming from a a home that had dust and sanding renovations going on.
@@adrianm824 it’s already past warranty tho so I meant if I go inside it clean it & the problem doesn’t go away. Will they fix it if I send it in for repair & pay?
Great video I’ve had a PS5 that couldn’t play PS5 games (random shut down) for a very long time. Oddly enough it would play ps4 games and stream apps all day long with no issue. In the past I’ve always just cleaned up to the point where I took out the fan hoping it might make it work correctly. Even sent it to Sony twice with no real fix. Honestly this issue didn’t resolve until I got to the power supply which was caked with dust and causing the system to overheat. It might be scary but follow this video ALL the way and hopefully you’ll get your PS5 back and not some glorified PS4.
I'm having the same issue. I don't have the proper tools to correctly disassemble the console. I'm going to try using a knife. I might break something but I'd rather do that than to have the console turn off every 15 minutes.
You should be able to pick up the T8 at a Walmart they are rather easy to find. I would be careful not to damaged those special T8 screws which I think would happen using a knife. I hear you though. I was so frustrated I felt like I had nothing to lose at that point. I’m so glad it works now. Rather than being vertical I’m now placing the system horizontal and vacuuming it each day. Hopefully that will make a difference and I won’t have to go through the effort of disassembly again.
Fab guide 😘 fairly easy to do actually. I'd recommend taking photo's as you go along to make sure you have wires/screws/cables as they were , although video does show them !! Ribbon cables were OK... make sure the ones with lock on make a 'click' when they go in & non lock go in up to black lines. The worst part imo was the little push fit clips on the ends of the wires ... you need to be very careful with positioning them & make they push down properly ... you'll know when they 👍
People having overheating problems after one year? I didnt clean my ps4 for 5 years and even then i did it just because i felt like cleaning it not because it wasnt working properly. Does the ps5 get more dusty if its positioned horizontally or vertically?
I came across your video and a week ago and finally decided to clean it myself instead of sending it in. I have to say the video is well explained and there’s not much chance of risk as long as u dont handle the components roughly. It took me a total of around 50minutes to take it apart and put it back together. This does a much better job than compressed air or vaccum.
Followed your instructions and it was really easy to do so, without them I'm not sure. It's surprising how dirty it is once you take it fully apart. Thank you.
Nice easy video to follow. Would normally never consider trying this but since my warranty was up thought I'd give it a try as my ps5 started shutting off itself. Could not believe the amount of dust inside especially the power unit. That is with several cleans over the past 14 months with compressed air etc. So far ps5 seems fine again if i can do it anyone can. Probably saved me £ on repair bill. Thanks for this video much appreciated.

For those of you who feel at ease with disassembling hardware, I recommend redistributing and adding more liquid metal to your PS5 if you keep it in a vertical position. This will prevent the liquid metal from gathering on one side and leaving a dry spot on the APU, which can lead to overheating issues.

Use Air Compressor to blow that stupid dust inside and to avoid tearing the warranty seal
On the "warranty seal"
"Most consumers don’t know that these stickers are actually illegal-and that’s because manufacturers don’t want you to.
Cost you more to prove that in court than to buy another PS5 from a scalper.
😮
Companies still wont honor it, and unless your ready to spend tens of thousands to take them to court what they say goes, and they know this.
I did not have no writing on the warranty sticker. It was just black. Can someone explain?

Thank you!
Did u have to use all the tools he used
@@erwinwayne3129 For sure you're going to need the T8 Torx and a #1 (small) Phillips screwdriver.

Amazing! My PS5 couldn't run a modern game for more than 10 minutes without crashing.

How tf is ur ps5 overheating its only been out for 2 years
@imkushpakmann8931 Because of how much dust it accumulates in the radiator through the vents.
Wait, you sent it to SONY TWICE and they still didn't clean it properly when doing the 'repair'? WTAF SONY, that's not even close to good enough 🤬🤬
im 14 years old and this video made it so easy i did this entire disassembly myself

Yeah I think my ps5 gets some static electricity charge on its surface and ends up attracting a lot of fine dust every day.
I just cleaned mine first time since from launch day, and it had barely any dust, but it’s because it’s high up, that ps5 probably sits on the floor/carpet.

All the vents on SX and PS5 ensure that disassembly is likely never required to remove dust bunnies. One can snake the plastic straw from a can of compressed air into every corner of the heat sinks, psu etc.
finally someone who understand this you simply blow air trough the radiator and vacuum it
14:25there is one free spot on thermal pads.
it would overheating
this is a major cleaning process.... Good job man...
best video ever made on cleaning the ps5
*For more info check out the links in the description*
hey just so u know the screwdriver set in the Amazon link is showing that it’s unavailable and doesn’t know if it’ll be back in stock do u know when u can have it restocked to the Amazon or no?
What If the thermal pad is Broken off
is there any way I can modify my new ps5 to add contact to heatsink?
Can you not gently blow compressed air on certain parts like the fan?
How many came here because of Final Fantasy 16 😂😢
I just wanna say you saved my PS5’s life, awesome video!
Exactly what I needed!! Great video! My Playstation runs like it did when I first bought it.
hey man, do i really need to remove both case to take out the power supply?
good ready, did the deep cleaning prior i bought the equipment you listed. Was worth is to clean out the dust after 6 months thank you for this easy step by step video
Thank you so much for this video. I really appreciate how you listed each screw size and their respective positions.
I appreciate all the help mane, I was getting ready to send mine in to PlayStation and get it fixed for 200$ because my warranty was up . Been having mine since launch and finally seen how clogged it was . Now it works great thanks to your video . Saved me time and money . PlayStation couldn’t even tell me what’s wrong because they want to finesse 😂 but thank you again.🙏🏾💯
Yo is it possible to just remove the two screws in the back and take the cover off to gain access to the heatsink ? And then clean it off
@@dhanu_7037 mane I had to take The whole damn thing apart lol honestly I leh my woman do it cause she gentle but it’s not that bad with the video . My shit work prefectly after we cleaned it. I had mine since launch day and it had a year worth of dust and lent inside .
@@ovyeezylfg4620 yea I had mine since launch too and the warranty is up and recently, mine has been struggling to keep up with heavy ps5 games like horizon forbidden west and ghost of Tsushima. Like I can barely play for an hour before getting the overheat warning and the other day it even shut off by itself. I was able to disassemble and clean the fan and the heat sink after taking the fan out but I know there's probably more shit in there. I'm not even the tiniest bit confident to completely disassemble it I just cannot keep up with all the screws and what not. That's why I was wondering, since the heat sink is at the back part where he unscrewed the two screws, can I just unscrew those two and get access to the whole heatsink?
@@dhanu_7037 yeah it’s your radiator, gotta get deep in there and clean it out good. My shit works just like new . You might be able to do that . I just didn’t think of just doing it that way . I really just wanted to get my shit working and not have to wait 30 plus days to get it back from PS. His video goes into good detail especially when you put everything back together . It’s easier putting it back that’s fasho . You can also take it to Geek squad it can be cheaper . I wish I can post the pic here to explain . I cleaned the fan at first but looked inside and can tell it was a lot and was like fuck it lehs give it a try. I say you try it but take your time and be gentle . Maybe have a friend that’s good wit gadgets and shit to help.
I was mad af when I bought Elden ring on PS5 and it kept fuckin cutting off and then when I got madden it did the same. I said fuck this lol
Thank YOU SOME MUCH FOR SHOWING THE SCREW SIZE when reassembling the PS5 I Got them mix up and my brain felt scrambled trying to figure it out Hugh THANK YOU!!!
Careful removal of plates with no scratches that's what I do to clean mines every week
Cleaning it every week is too much
I did all step by step and it works perfectly! The best explanation to clean your ps5 and I'm really happy about how it works 😊
Great video but I still can’t get this game console
This is the best ps5 disassembly and cleaning video.
For those of you who feel at ease with disassembling hardware, I recommend redistributing and adding more liquid metal to your PS5 if you keep it in a vertical position. This will prevent the liquid metal from gathering on one side and leaving a dry spot on the APU, which can lead to overheating issues.
Can u link where I could buy the Liquid Metal for a ps5?
@@vzyro2x258I was under the impression the liquid metal was in an enclosed unit which wasn't designed to be opened!
@@lancealex382you can open it and put it back with no issues, so long as you don't spread it out when you have it open. You can even add more assuming you buy the correct kind of your PS5 has a dry spot starting to form.
Thanks for the video, made cleaning a lot easier the large ribbon was only tricky thing.
Okay guys. I did it. Every part. It turned on. And still works. Thank god.
That's not dust. It looks more like dog or cat hair.
What is that small grey pad at the bottom of the console @ 9:47? It's in a completely different position @ 9:55 and seems to be stuck to the board when you turn the console over @ 10:18.
That pad detached from somewhere and i dont know where it goes. Well i hope its not anything important LOL
Cool video but, I would assume less than 1% of all PS5 owners would do this completely. Most will go as far as removing the fan and using a vacuum to suck out any dust in the fan compartment..
My heat sink had lots of dust in it so I had to completely remove everything, after one year of having. I will try compressed air next time though.
@@TalhaConh did it work though like have u had anymore problems
What is that screw thing u used to take out the fan
It’s a T9 Torx security bit hollow version.
@@breezer5498 ☺️thank you
Just followed every step and did it my self fully cleaned it, found it very easy and fun in a way especially following your video thank you, x
was it hard to remember where to put all the screws back?
@TheDeafGamer not at all I just worked back ward putting it back together and the video helped xx
@@darrenardron6953 did you ground yourself at all? To prevent electro static discharge?? Or did you just open it and clean it like in the video?
@MR. REDEMPTION I bought some antistatic brushes and a can of canned air and some wipes too. Just did it on the table an used some gloves
@@darrenardron6953 okay thank you. What kind of gloves did you use/recommend?
