What can i feed my turtle?
Me and my buddy have been buds for nearly 20 years
Justin Perkins same here. I love my Eric. It’s a long commitment to cleaning every two weeks for two hours. But he’s worth it.
How about the water in the tank? Should i put as many as the video does??
Me and my turtle just reached 1 year
Bro....13 years for me😂 ive had my turtle for that long.
@@FNURULAIENABINTISEBI I don't think you'd want to do that. I keep the water on my tank about half mainly because my turtle sits on top of a small rock so that he can get his sunlight and air. Thats also wear he tends to sleep. Also he does poop alot and cleaning the tank is faster when their isnt too much water to throw away. If you full up the entire tank your gonna be cleaning for an hour or two.
I ❤️my turtles 🐢
I grew up with this combo! It's so cool to just stumble into this video with the same type of turtles. 😇
I'm impressed of most of the turtle videos yours is the most factual so far. I have had my red eared slider for about 2 years now I inherited her from someone who had her for 5 years before that. I wish more people would take the time to watch this because coming from someone who personally has one with only the shell hitting about 10 inches in length that's without the body, she is a whole lot of turtle. Just in the past 2 years I have put in close to 2500 dollars in her maintenance. That includes filtration, lighting, vet visits, food, heat sources, water conditioner, tank upgrades, you name it. They are definitely a pet for life there is no way around it.
I don't know if I would agree with "turtles being social animals" some are but, RES are better off being alone and dont need company in a tank. I tried to have my RES with another turtle and it was aggressive. It depends on the turtle you have but, I would say turtles are not social animals
Turtles do carry salmonella when you handle them always wash your hands.
Yeah. I used to have 2 RES but one of them recently passed away. My other turtle has kinda a nub/ stump as a tail and me and my mom think it's because my other turtle bit it off but there is no way to be sure.
I have three RES In one tank. One boy, two girls, they’re all 5 years old
Thank you, my turtles is 8 years old and I need more tips on taking more care of her
My turtle is 23 years
Lol mine is 3
@@kristen4301 mine is 1 month old😂 hope he get 1 year soon
Love them.....I've had "Buddy" for 12 years now.
Oh hey, my turtle's name is Buddy!
Learning so much thanks!!!
Good, although I wouldn't recommend cohabbing in a tank that size. Cohabbing in the wild works well because there's so much space, but cohabbing in a normal sized aquarium could be problematic. Just something I'd keep a very close eye on. Also, I'd really recommend having decorations and substrate in the tank for enrichment. I have large river rocks in my RES tank that are far too large to consume that he enjoys moving around and digging through, and I'll even occasionally hide vegetables in the substrate for him to search for, it gives him something to do. Also, having some sort of decoration, be it driftwood, rock, etc., that extends near the surface of the water is a good thing to have so your turtle can sleep with his head out of the water. I've actually got two places for him to sleep like that, one under his basking area and one on the other side of the tank, allowing him to chose a warmer side as well as to have a very dark hiding area and a brighter one. Plus, he enjoys scratching his shell on the fake wood decoration I have.
I'm adding this not to hate on the video, but to provide some extra information to other turtle keepers. Hopefully this helps people, as well as their turtles. Don't overlook enrichment for your turtles, in the wild they have a much larger habitat with all sorts of different things, it's important to try and provide as many different enriching things for your turtle. Of course, to add a lot of items into the tank you'd need to go above the minimum gallonage so they still have plenty of uninterrupted swimming space.
Holy crap that looks like a paragraph the nerds would right at school 😂
clean and very well maintained... i love turtle..
thank you for this video.
we have a red eared slider turtle but were not so good at taking care of her your the BEST at taking care of turtles :)
Thank u for giving a very good information

Life expectancy is 50-70yrs??!! You for real dude??!! Red Eared Sliders we talking about. I thought it was about 25yrs lol?? I already have mines for over 20yrs lol.. Thanks for the info just saw your vid and subscribed ..
Sean Harrilal You were probably relieved to know that you have wayyy more than just a few years with your turtle.
@@Hello-vr3pi Seem Miss.Turtle will out live me..lol
I just bought 2 of these babies. They are vey small and often get scared. Any tips? On feeding and making the comfortable?
I have mine under a 240 watt High output broad spectrum fluorescent. Good?
2:27 Those basking platforms may be what everyone buys but turtles need to be 100 percent dry when basking. Platforms like these believe it or not can result in your turtle developing shell rot and can be fatal if not treated. It is best to build a basking spot yourself with a ramp in which they can climb onto to bask.
There is a UV.
Well it’s okay when they are smaller and won’t sink. I was good with a floating dock till my baby was about 8 or 9 inches.
The reason it's wet is because when the turtle gets on the basking platform the water drops! And yes I own turtles
Saitama you’re absolutely correct, not only was my red eared slider still partially submerged while basking, uv light or not if the turtle is in the water it can’t dry. Also my slider picked it apart because she is aggressive and constantly bit at it.( the same one in the video, it’s made of foam)
J T wait seriously, other turtles eat their basking docks too?! I was freaking out repurchasing docks for mine until I made one and looking all over the internet about turtles eating their floating docks...couldn’t find anything. I thought my turtle was just really savage 😰
turtles are my bae
on my profile pic is my turtle
She said Hi
Her name is Luna
And Right now she is 1 year old!
She’s my little baby sissy
What you placed on top of water for seating the turtle?and where did you buy it?
Beautiful video ❤️ I have a question actually. My baby only eat shrimps, I tried that green sticks food but he always refuse to eat that only shrimps hi love. What to do please suggest ❤️🙏🏻
I give about the same length of the shell of my turtle (im talking about the water size thing) is that ok?
If every inch of the shell gets bigger and the tank has to increase 10 gallon every inch, the tank\tub will be 120 gallons as of the turtles adulthood but will a roughly 100 or so gallon tub/tank be okay?
Heh thank I have one of these turtles
My red eared sliders have yellow slids instead! They are so cool!!
I used to had one like that when I was a child, but one day he escaped the pond, got stuck somewhere in my garden and month later I only found his shell 😭
My turtle love scratches under his head 😭
Lucky you! My turtle hates any kind of handling :)
Mine doesn’t like crickets lol
She does like warms I cut up as a treat
Turtles are not social animals and can be aggressive towards each other especially if on is smaller than the other
False,I have owned turtles for close to five years,in that five years I have never seen any aggression towards each other!and yes one is smaller than the other!
All they need is a big space, same as humans, you put four in a two bedroom apartment and you’ll see the results! Lol
My larger turtle is the MEANEST thing to my smaller turtle. We had to separate them with plexiglass until we get a larger stock tank for them. 😢 Both were purchased at the same time and have lived together for 12 years now.
Kate Lorenzetti I think it’s best to have them in different aquariums so they can have their own territory. You can also have one of them walking around the house, bedroom or safe place it can walk freely, you can also get a big plastic container, put a nice layer of dirt, sticks and reptile sand so the turtle can bury itself and sleep for two days leaving one in the tank then switch turtle! I do all this with mine every day. ✌️😃
DJay Crow How cool! I have never given mine sand to dig in because they both seem to just devour whatever I put in front of them. Not the smartest, my turtles 😂 They have eaten so many plastic items in the tank even after having been around them for years! I suspect that they are bored and do need some time outside 👌🏼 Is reptile sand larger/smaller so that it doesn’t cause problems if swallowed?
I have bought a pair of res...baby ones..have kept them in my aquarium..they are not eating anything ...is it necessary to keep turtles in a separate tank with no fishes or will they survive in the aquarium...have installed UV light in the basking area... please reply...m.worried for them
they make some time to eat as they are pretty hesitant but when they'll get used to you they will start eating hopefully. Plis do give an update on how they are doing? :))))))
I just got a red ear slider turtle today
What kind of filter do you use ?
I have one and I named him Daedalus.
YAY SHE IS POPULAR YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY
My turtle is the same size as his if I add a baby in the aquarium will they fight? I don’t know if to do it.
Yo my turtle has these white things around it's legs and neck. How can I remove them?? I tried with brush and some came off but my turtle puts it's legs and head in and I can't really brush them off :/
Hey can u tell me from where did you buy the filter and basking stand you have shown in this video??
Can u provide me some links from where I can buy?
Hi, this is the basking dock that is in their tank amzn.to/2nwWfo1

Can I put my new baby (I am a beginner) red eared slider turtle in a large(not that much) tank with 2 medium sized sharks(not the ocean one)???
I have a pair of young RES which are about 2.5" long. And I heard that young turtles need a lot of proteins, shall I feed them with raw meat like pork and chicken?
Pork and chicken aren't in their natural diet, so it might not be the best option. I would feed them a combination of live foods (like crickets and feeder fish), chicken liver (it's high in protein and Vitamin E), shrimp, and a high-protein pellet. Remember though, if you feed the hatchlings too much protein their growth will accelerate, causing potential kidney problems when they get older. A sign that this is happening is pyramiding of the scutes, and if you notice this, cut down on their protein intake. They should also have green vegetables, such as romain lettuce, carrot tops, carrots, etc.. It's important to feed them a variety of foods so they don't become deficient in any vitamins. Also, if you feed them a wide variety of foods as a hatchling, it will be easier to get them to eat a wide variety of foods as an adult. Also, feeding them cuttlebone occasional is a great way to provide them with a little extra calcium and bone development.
do this turtle hibernate ?
my female turtle is having eggs, we made a nesting box with sand and top soil, she went into the sand and buried herself completely she is been there for the past 3 days. I am worried because it is the first time she has access to the sand and because apparently she supposed to be trying to lay her eggs. the eggs we found out through the vet. can someone help with some info?
My turtle doesn't like to be in water. We give her food in the tub..but as soon as she is done eating she just wants to come out of the tub! We haven't kept a tank cz of this. Is this okay?
Mine both turtle are very small..they are not eating turtle food properly...what should I do??...
I have red ear slider turtles. I keep them on land mostly all the time and only put them in water for feeding. So is it okay or should I keep them more in water?
They should always have access to go in the water
My turtles seem to hate light and go for darker shady places, why is this and should I keep them away from too much light?
Afia Zaman They naturally go for shade/shadows. Just make sure the basking spot is at the right temp.
My red eared slidder started getting a brown spot on the top of her shell... what is causing it???
oh no it may be fungus leading to shell rot so you should get it checked if its moldy :)))))
What size can a turtle breed in cuz min arent there a year and 5 monthd
Same one we have
Unfortunately as cute as they are, they are also an invasive species in many places where they don’t belong.
my mom and dad has a red eared slider. -kailea
Shouldn't red eared turtles have a cuddle bone for calcium ?
If they are not eating turtle pellets (keep in mind turtle pellets are made for babies)turtle pellets include everything needed in a turtles diet
My turtle just turned 2 years old now, and my family is still confused about its gender...
The Half Artist From Wonderland long nails and tails mean it's a boy
Short nails and tail girl
Yamileth Vazquez Oh, thank you, but the vid kinda helped already.
I have a question, my red ear turtle is not useing one of it's back legs it is almost under it's she'll,what do i do?
Hi, it's best to take him to an exotic vet for an examination to see what's going on.
I have a red eared slider she is 2 years old but I don't wanna she die I wanna her to live more than 10 years i❤️my pets
I also have d same ted eared turtle n we named it hari prasad n its almost 3 yrs old very frndly one n he needs humans around it all tym n all tym he plays with me or round over me to plah with it
So if you have the air conditioner on for to long and your tank in warm enough will this kill your turtle?
Turtles are not social creatures. While they typically don't mind if there are other around them, they don't interact or socialize, according to Encyclopedia Britannica. Most are active during the day, spending their time foraging for food.
I have a red ear slide turtle
My turtle blowing in water while eating food.this is disease or not???
Kindly suggest
Nope, that's just how they eat.
Could you link something what i need for them, i think am a bad owner they live in a 5 gallon for 2 of my baby turtle
Hey I would watch the turtle girl on RUclips and she is a wonderful example of what you should do. If you cannot provide what they need there are rescues you can drop them of at or your can take the time to regime. Do not release them if they are pets they could die or get run over because they are accustomed to humans. I hope everything goes well
Egss or breeding ki information do
What I thought they lived to be 30?! 50-70 yrs??? I gotta give this baby turtle away. It’s going to outlive ME!
Mine's the same Turtle he's a baby turtle I've been with her for a few weeks
😁
I’m hoping for an answer. I took my nieces “red eared turtle” this August, her mother threatened to toss her into a local pond to my horror so she’s now my beautiful baby (5 months). She’s growing and thriving, but she DOES NOT have red, hers in a very light orange. Since I wasn’t the one who purchased her and the place that sold her should be fined and shut down, I’m concerned about the lack of red. Could she be a different breed of turtle? She looks exactly like the red eared slider and I’ve not found another turtle that looks like her except this breed. Can anyone help me figure it out? Am I maybe feeding her wrong? Thanks in advance.
My turtle is named Tyler. I found out recently that Tyler is a girl. But I still call her a boys name because why not?
I keep mine in a very large container. She gets in and out as she pleases
My turtles eat small wax worms. Is that ok?
My 2 turtles keep opening mouth a little bit. Like a creek open. Not like a big open mount but a creek. Is it normal or is it respiratory problems. Please respond in worried
when do they open their mouths? It might be when you touch them they dont want to be handled.
The Art Crusader they creek open their mouth underwater. I read online and it's Normal but I wanna make sure
I am not sure if that's a health issue or not. Keep researching and take to an exotic vet just to make sure. Take a video and show the vet.
gamer gIrl man my turtles so that too don't worry when I first for my turtle I see him open his mouth creek open and he's perfectly fine.Turtles do that don't worry
The Art Crusader oh okay thank God.
my turtle when i put him in the water he doesn't want to be in the water, can someone tell me what is happening?
10 gallon tank for every inch of shell length? Damn that's a lot!
My turtle is 1.12 inch (around 3cm) and he lives in a tank with a capacity of 1 gallon. Is that wrong?
Yes the size is wrong, its too small.
Not really a video on facts, but more of a general recommendations video.
I have a red eared turtle her name is murtle
that's such a cute name :)))))
My red ear slider is weird I have the same dock as in the video and he gets between the glass and doc
Pov: your watching this bcuz u want a turtle
ahaha i'm watching this because i have a turtle :)))))))
Did unever get you turtles
Is it normal for RES to go in/out of eating phases? The last 2 times in the past 3 years she’s gone on a week fast I brought her to the vet with no luck but buying fish. This time it’s been about 4 weeks and she’s not eating regularly. Won’t touch veggies or pellets, the only thing I can get her to eat is large goldfish and dog food. Is this normal??? Or maybe I’m feeding her too much and that’s why she goes into these phases? The vets have said she is growing great and isn’t obese, the tank set up is ideal, my turtle just isn’t working right 😰
How old she is? When they are grown ups, it's enough to feed them every second day (my one 15+ I don't know her correct age because the people I got her from didn't knew it either)
Mr. GotItDone a little over 3 years, she’s about 9 1/2 inches. I heard you don’t have to feed them as often, and switch to more veggies then protein. But she’s been barely interested in any food for the past month. Basking and acting as normal though ):
@@kristen4301 I'm not sure, the weather can do it too. Since they reptiles they are more active in warm, sunny weather. A new aquarium ( or other change in the environment) can cause this too.
For the veggies you can soak them in tuna water. Im not sure if that will work for the pellets though.
Kristen my female slider stops eating when she is gravid( pregnant)She will stay on the dock and bask pretty much all day and some of the night for a few days. Then she get extremely restless. When I see her trying to dig with her back feet on the dock , I know it’s time for her to release her eggs. However, this didn’t happen until she was about 5 years old.
Please , is it fine to have just one turtle ? Or should there be at least one pair ?
2 is better.
I suggest you pair because if the turtle get bor other turtle is there
NO NO ONE, turtles are not social, some do get along but 1 IS BETTER than 2. U can still try pair female female but if u do male male they will fight and male female the male will bother the female
Turtles are not social and don't need friends.
anithing
How much for red ear turtles
Oh so my type of turtle is popular?
Yes one of the most popular pet turtle species around the world. They are native to southern USA and northern Mexico but are an invasive species meaning they adapt, mate with other species and can completely wipe out another species population. This is why they are mass breed and it’s illegal to let a captive RES loose in the wild the USA
In how many days u change the water nd in what quantity?
Normally I do a 30 percent water change every 2 weeks for larger aquariums (roughly 40+ gallon aquariums and 25 percent water change weekly for smaller aquariums ( roughly 38 and under gallon aquariums). So if your doing a 30 percent water change that would come out to syphoning out water till you reduce the level 3 inches lower than it was before you started the water change. For 40 + gallon aquariums the same rule applies, it may not sound like much but if you have a 150 gallon aquarium you will be draining out about 15 to 20 gallons of water atleast!!!!!!!
I got a 40 Gallon tank with an external canister filter. I did a 100 percent water change weekly
I just can't shake the the feeling my turtle is not likeing me
ElderCow You should listen to your gut! 😆

My sister has a large number of red and yellow eared sliders that she really loves. Due to health and financial problems she is having trouble taking care of them. We live in North Carolina and have been hunting good homes or rescues to give them to. So far we haven't been able to find anyone that would take any of them. They range in size from silver dollar to soccer ball. If you or anyone you know can give some or all of these turtles a good home, please let me know.
