Just as a warning, make sure to work in a ventilated area and carefully clear up all those sanded bits when sanding foam! A dust mask might even be an important investment...that stuff will NEVER leave your lungs. But it's great to see such an easy and resourceful approach to the hive spires that people always try to replicate!
Hi Miscast, really love your videos. Lots of brilliant ideas. I’m not a war gamer but I’ve adapted a lot of your ideas into my dioramas. I’ve branched into A sci fi /steampunk war theme so your videos are really useful. Keep em’ coming.
I've been subscribed to your channel for ages, but only just noticed this now.... looks fantastic! I'm gonna make a table of this for my school club. Please make a Part 2!!
It's an underrated material honestly. It's great because you can cut it with a breadknife, and coat it in pva and sand it makes awesome hills, sand dunes, cliffs ect.without the need for a hot wire cutter
I think your paint job really makes this stand out. I'm gonna make a modified version of these for when my players get to some kind of blighted lands! Can't believe you were able to show this in 3 minutes - but your editing was on point, as always. Keep it up, Trent :)
Great! Maybe I should whip up a 3D model for you! I actually repainted these 2 times before deciding on the colorscheme, I wanted something striking that was easy to reproduce and settled on this one, based off the Games Workshop 'nid colours.
What can't you do? If you did - well, of course I'd have to make a video for it :) Lots of folks have made Tyrannid inspired models, and the "scaley" look actually translates pretty well in the 3D printing world IMO (compared to things like skin). Found these also: www.thingiverse.com/thing:2419334 (my favorite of the two) pinshape.com/items/23826-3d-printed-tyranid-alien-spire-wh40k-scale
Have you ever made a Tyranid nest of eggs? I've one video on it and wonder how you would do it. I also watched Black Magic Craft's video on Web & Egg Terrain and really liked it as well. I'm looking for ideas so I can make some sort of a nest of eggs for my daughter & her friends to use with other scatter terrain for D&D.
Damn it, Trent, you've done it again! Your projects are getting progressively more awesome. Good job with these, I'm considering modding them with suction cups instead of teeth to make Tzeentch tentacles for dangerous terrain on a Chaos planet.
Thanks for getting back so quick mate. I’ve just finished a walking bunker with Old Imperial Guard Infantry. Still working out the dio for it though. It’s a kind of neo Victorian device if that makes sense. I’m an old guy so I’ll have to work out how to electronically transmit photogtaphic images from Ireland to parts foreign.
Cheers! I'm not sure, I haven't used expanding foam for making terrain yet but it's on the to-do list. I think any high density foam would be far less messy ! A hot wire cutter would be the most efficient way of cutting the foam without mess. At the end of they day though, a vacuum cleaner made very short work of cleaning up so I'm not too concerned.
Good job! What about some kind of fantasy tower? You could make it looks like it is dwarven or elvish. Or even a whole castle!😃 I'm more into fantasy terrain as You can see😉
Dude, if you could do a tutorial on like, the mouth of this subterranean monster as a part 2 that would be amazing. This is giving so many good ideas for setups!
Hey I'm currently about a third the way into making one of these spires and it's already turning out great. Just popping by to say thanks for the video, template, and I hope to see that part 2 you mentioned.
Looks brilliant as usual, mate. Would love to see more creative builds that incorporate using sprues because let's be honest here; we all have tons of 'em. Personally find that if you whittle them down, can make for decent wooden logs or spikes. Would love to see what you do with them!
Cheers! I incorporated them into an ork tutorial I did recently, but if you can't get enough I'm sure I can slip a few more ideas in future videos. I've seen a lot of creative things, with them, like crystals and spikes but I'm sure I can come up with something original to show off. Failing that, you can always make yourself an army of Sprew Marines!
Yeah, saw the Ork video and as someone recently collecting Ironjawz, absolutely loved it. Just figure there's a bunch of ways to use it and everyone in the hobby will have more sprues than they know what they're doing with them. Just think there's awesome potential for you to get in on there; whether it be spikes to enhance various builds, some charred planks or such. Cheers, anyway. :)
Oh awesome! Yeah its totally something I'll look into, especially if I can write it off as an excuse to by more mini's for the sprews. I've just gotta experiment with it first!
really really nice work .... Damn it´s cool many thanks for showing and please keep up the good work ... ;-) Hmmm ... Next project ?!! Maybe some necron terrain, there's not much of it on youtube so ... maybe ???
Love your videos mate, hope you get around to some Death Korps trench stuff one day :) Do you do any elaborate model painting by the way? And if so, what's your preferred army? I think alot of people would like to see what you could do with a miniature and how you make them match your terrain.
Trench stuff is planned. I'm still collecting the needed resources and finding a good home/way to store it when it's done. I'm certainly not a painter, but I do love to paint. I'm not very good a techniques and following good procedure, and I get bored quickly painting the same minis. Besides this video all the minis in the vids are my recent stuff. I think it's best to leave all the painting tutorials to the pros like my boy Miniac. I currently paint mostly minis for D&D, like Reaper Bones and Mantic stuff. I currently play Dwarves in Mordheim and I'm waiting to make my dwarf tutorials to break them out for a video. I used to play High Elves in fantasy before AOS happened. I haven't played much 40k, but I've always loved 'nids, but I'd never be able to paint or afford that many of them. Currently I'm more of a skirmish game guy because I have less time and I like having quicker games. I'd love to get into Necromunda if it takes off in my area. Hope that's gives some insight! Thanks for watching
Looks great! Have you tried hot wire products so you don't have a huge mess to clean? Just curious, this is the first video I've seen from you. Keep up the great work!
John Takacs Currently my goal is to focus on making tutorials for terrain that is as accessible as possible. At the moment I'd rather go the messier route if it showed my audience that's what they can do to, with the minimal tools available and tools don't have to be a barrier for entry. That's why I try to mention lots of alternatives techniques in my videos and don't mention product's by brand name. Currently I don't own a hot wire cutter but I'm looking at one to build terrain for my local club faster, but chances are if I buy one it'll stay out of videos for the time being. Hope that explains my thought process! :)
AWESOME DUDE! please don't get one of dem fancy hot wire cuttin' machines... to produce something so good with minimal tools is what gets the people going... Also fan request, can you do something Necron that is not a tower or pyramid... something that could actually produce some sort of cover save.
Yeah you're probably right. Fear not! Something Necron hey? Like crystals? I'm not a Necron player so throw more ideas at me and I'll try to work something out :)
Miscast Terrain Necrons are next inline for a codex so expect to see many new players. Umm i think crystals are too easy for you haha. How about an ancient ruin, google Palmyra ruins for inspiration.
your videos are amazing! simple and very well put together! I was wondering if you could do a video on some "Fable" (the video game) style buildings? its kinda cartoony and I wanna know if its possible to pull off with simple materials. .-.
Thank you! Yes I'd love to make some cartoony sorta terrain, Fable is a great example and it's certainly possible with simple materials, stay tuned, I have something planned :)
It's 2021 the 9th of January and you should totally make a part two but this time you need to make a big mouth like that thing form pirates of the caribbean and you can make it all nurgle looking for your new role play game you are making and it would be cool to see some terrain for arcane ugly
Smaller!? I made them specifically to cast a shadow on the enemy. My spires will block out the sun! Really though when you print the templates you can change your print settings to print them at a smaller scale, say 60% and they should work out great :)
Did you Paint the Warhammer creatures or tanks from W40k show how you do that youre realy good maybe show step by step how to build a whole terrain ice desert wood or grassland biom i hope you made more of this videos :)
How about... plain ground? Like, you know... the most basic stuff everyone needs to put their miniature mandolls on. How to make a basic, sturdy 2'x2' board with grass and hills, but no fancy static grass that requires batshit crazy expensive equipment to pull off.
No need for crazy equipment for static grass. We don't use anything except PVA glue for ours and it looks great. Just brush on neat PVA, sprinkle a load of grass on top, tip off the excess and then gently blow horizontally over the surface to get it to stand up.
Electric saw blades? WE'RE GETTING FANCY NOW, BOYS!
Just wait 'til I get me one of dem fancy hot wire cuttin' machines
*CHAAAAAAAAAAAAAINSWOOOOOOOOOOORDS!*
Miniac hot wire cutters are funner
I come for the terrain ideas, I stay for the awkward outros
Kingdom Jams hahaha. The tutorials are just an excuse to make awkward outros really
Seriously! You are killing it dude. Period. Suggestions: Radar dish, landing strip, space port, shop stalls.
Great ideas! I'd love to incorporate these things into a large build
34 videos in a row and I'm still loving this channel
Love this! Not someone who subscribed to much, but your videos are great! Not full of awkward crap, straight to the best bits
This has really sparked my creative side, love it!
Hi Miscast, really love your videos. Lots of brilliant ideas. I’m not a war gamer but I’ve adapted a lot of your ideas into my dioramas. I’ve branched into A sci fi /steampunk war theme so your videos are really useful. Keep em’ coming.
John Harrison Hell yeah, that's great. I hope to see what you make sometime
I've been subscribed to your channel for ages, but only just noticed this now.... looks fantastic! I'm gonna make a table of this for my school club. Please make a Part 2!!
Just perfect! Now I know what to use the bubbly foam! Thanks for the inspiration!
It's an underrated material honestly. It's great because you can cut it with a breadknife, and coat it in pva and sand it makes awesome hills, sand dunes, cliffs ect.without the need for a hot wire cutter
Excellent. Nice use of easy to find materials, and thank you for keeping the video so short and simple!
As usual brilliant but simple terrain guides.
oh shit my brudda its you
Beautiful, just beautiful.
I think your paint job really makes this stand out. I'm gonna make a modified version of these for when my players get to some kind of blighted lands! Can't believe you were able to show this in 3 minutes - but your editing was on point, as always. Keep it up, Trent :)

Ryan Franks Awesome idea!
Good to see another Aussie terrain crafter. I got the same Bunnings branded PVA.
Even more uncanny that you look a bit like a old house mate haha

Awesome! As a Tyranid player i love these. Gonna make some myself. Thanks!
This channel is fantastic! Keep up the great work 👍
Cool project
Hopefully i try this out
What an awsome video
Awesome work as always, thank you for the great content.
Awesome... great work
wondering if expanding foam would be less messy.....

I'd love to see more tyranid stuff, I am hoping to build some low budget terrain to get the feel of walking into an infested area
This was an awesome video thanks. Could you please do some imperial city terrain? Thanks
This is incredible
Amazing!! waiting ffor more!!!
Yeah boiiiiiii! WOOOOOOOOOO!

Loved this! Totally gonna go this direction for a purple worm.
Can you make some minecart rails, and maybe some carts too?
Yes! Great idea
Please make a part two. Like a whole, large scene. Maybe some kind of mouth or pit in the middle.
Looks great! Have you tried hot wire products so you don't have a huge mess to clean? Just curious, this is the first video I've seen from you. Keep up the great work!

Video recommendation: I don't think we have seen you do a junglescape, and I'd love to see your take on it.
Can you make some digestion pools and spore towers too?!
Do you have any ideas for urban rubble?

Gnarls!
How about a treant?
That was great, absolutely massive though, do the templates come smaller?
Smaller!? I made them specifically to cast a shadow on the enemy. My spires will block out the sun! Really though when you print the templates you can change your print settings to print them at a smaller scale, say 60% and they should work out great :)
Outfuckingstanding.

Can you make jungle terrain? I'm trying to make one for my Catachan Jungle Fighter army

Whats a tyranid?
howd you get here?
@@Miscast i saw a vid on tested about a wargaming terrain, and i liked it so i searched terrain building and found this
Oh wicked, that's awesome! Tyranids are an alien race in the Warhammer 40k universe. Basically big bugs.
@@Miscast oh, thanks
My one criticism: not phallic enough
how don't you have more subs?
OMG thats messy hahahaha
Make Necron terain
