Irgendwann Mitte der 80er, saß ich kleiner DDR Bürger (ca. 14/15 Jahre alt) am Sonntagvormittag vor der Glotze und schaute Westfernsehen. Ich erinnere mich, dass es eine Musiksendung gab, nach der Programmvorschau für die ganze kommende Woche. Da kam schräge, faszinierende Musik. Das kannte ich nicht. EN zogen mich sofort in ihren Bann. Diese Musik , dieser Klangteppich hat sich in mir eingebrannt. Meine Schwester (ABBA Fan) schüttelte nur den Kopf und verließ fluchtartig das Zimmer. Gott, ist das lange her. Ich erinnere mich immer noch an das Staunen, ob des Neuen. Das ist bis Heute geblieben! ✌

Best ever!!!!! Love this band and Blixa Bargeld is a real genius and a beautiful creature. He has everything. I ran with some people back in the 80s that were friends with Blixa and Nick Cave though I never got to know them sadly!! Now I am retracing my steps and have rediscovered Eiensturzende!!!!! Love them even more second time round. XOXOXOXOXO

I think this was the first Einstürzende Neubauten song my mum showed me.
Edit: I said this on the Autobahn Extended video, too, but I'm pretty sure it was this video instead. I remember thinking they were construction workers who decided to have fun & make music with their tools while on site.

Yeah, a good start; that's the film from which this video has been taken.
Also, check the band's live show at Rockpalast, Düsseldorf from 1990. The whole thing can be found in one piece on RUclips.
Both films are outstanding examples from this era in the band's history.
I’d sample each of the phases of the band and see what appeals to you. There are many musical incarnations of EN - but with something uniquely consistent in all of them. For me personally, I’d recommend jumping in at Haus der Lüge and Tabula Rasa, two records where the old noise/insustrial meets with a more earthy, mystic approach.
