She is the ultimate Diva.. she has it all... the voice, warmth, drama, flexibility, even the looks... I adore Callas.. she stands alone... but this woman... I would pay to see her any day.
Ms. Zeani .. una forza della natura. Sempre originale, unico e fantactic. Una delizia per la mia anima, il cuore e le orecchie. Grazie per aver condiviso questo meraviglioso nastro video.
I would be stunned if they had NOT been overwhelmed by Virginia Zeani's portrayal of Lucia--what a performance. Thank you, Yvonne, for the history of the reception of the opera in 1957.
Zeani's sublime, ethereal and magical, and yet full-bodied, genuinely and essentially human Lucia is the only one I have heard so far that, in conveying the profound complexity and tragic fragility of the character can be measured to Callas' one! Mesmerizing artistry of Mme Zeani!
Thank you so much for this MAGIC recording and also for such informative video with beautiful pictures. corellithebest, many thanks for sending, delightful indeed ..
I sang this aria 11/12 years ago after having heard Joan Sutherland's performance which had inspired me, but I wish I had heard this first! Thanks Yvonne Sorry took a while to respond, but was in last minute preparation for a recital!
Yes, the history and critiques are interesting and also more significant than many people realise today. If Lucia with Zeani had not been so successful, Covent Garden might have abandoned their planned new production with Joan Sutherland. As it was they postponed it for a whole year. Relieved at Zeani's success Sutherland and her husband were also full of praise. Richard Bonynge later wrote "apart from my wife the voices I most remember are Flagstad, Zeani & Tebaldi" in that order.

Amazing voice, technique, artistry combine for a Lucia with red blood cells... very nicely presented here. THANK YOU, CHARLOTTE! Doug --
