    Thank you for condensing years of careful study on treatment of IBS/IBD into this great advise. Years ago I was able to overcome IBS with the 5:2 diet which increases butyrate producing bacteria by fasting much of 2 days of the week, and by adding inulin and healthy foods. The remission lasted for months while my diet worsened. This advice could have saved me years of trouble and hundreds of dollars worth of supplements that I didn't need.

    There is some complication here not addressed in this video. Metformin works by aiding the gut biome and then the gut biome reduces blood sugar and leaky gut syndrome. Metformin has little direct effect. Metformin mostly works on the gut. However, like how fermented foods help the gut biome, if one has IBS or another issue, they need to start slow. Diving into the deep end causes problems. Taking Metformin isn't a great idea if you have obvious gut issues, but if you have mild gut issues, it may help get rid of your gut issues. Berberine too. Berberine works the same way, aiding the gut biome.
    (Also fermented foods shouldn't be eaten every day, as too much doesn't help anyone's gut biome. Every other day max, if not once every 3 to 5 days.)

      I would argue that there are better safer ways to manage pre diabetes than resorting to medications that lower blood sugar. America has a major problem with diets. Roughly 50% people will develop disbetes by 2040. blood Diabetes hardly existed 50-60 years ago. Also, Metformin can also causing B12, 6 and other deficiencies. Any short term gains or positives of metformin can be better achieved with diet, not to mention that many natural herbs when compared to metformin effectiveness work just as well if not better(no side effects) compared to metformin.

    1) You mentioned histamine intolerance due to poor gut health. Are you suggesting improving gut heath will help reduce histamine reactions?
    2) Do you think repairing the gut by improving diversity could help people regain their ability to digest lactose?
    3) Do you believe improving gut diversity could help with bacterial infections such as H.Pylori?
    Thanks

    I was diagnosed with IBS 3 years ago, I suspect I also have Leaky Gut. After initial diagnosis I went on the Low Fodmap diet which worked well. But I may have gone down with Covid & stress shortly afterwards... after which I became intolerant to gluten dairy and foods I had no previous problem with. I have tried various probiotics with no improvement. I tried a butyrate supplement ..but during the night I experienced bad nausea.. similar to what I experience with IBS. I wonder if I'll ever be normal again .. it impacts on every area of life.. my energy levels are poor. Here in the UK after doctors test you for gut disease coeliac etc etc if all is negative they tell you you have IBS and send you to a nutritionist who put you on Low Fodmap and you are left to get on with it.

    • @DrRichardHagmeyer
      @DrRichardHagmeyer  Год назад +2

      There are many reasons for a bad response to probiotics. In some cases it’s not really a bad response, it’s a change of the microbiome. S.boulardii is a good yeast that crowds out pathogenic yeast, it also raises SIgA and helps combat H.pylori.

    WoULDn't a vinegar water drink immediately bring up scfa in stool?

    • @DrRichardHagmeyer
      @DrRichardHagmeyer  8 месяцев назад

      No. Long term sustainable production of SCFA requires having a balanced micrbiome. SCFA are primarily produced by break down of starches. In order to do this, you need key commensal bacteria to do this. Watch the video first more details

    No one ever talks about the many who have messed up immune systems where they actually have high levels of SCFA that are causing neurotoxicity. When they go on low carb low fiber diets, they get better due to the starving off of "good" bacteria that their immune system is unable to keep under control or is overreacting to and causing auto immunity.

    • @DrRichardHagmeyer
      @DrRichardHagmeyer  10 месяцев назад +3

      Please share some studies on this topic. I’d like to see more and understand the mechanism. Which SCFA in particular and how high are we talking? What kind of autoimmune disease has been associated with this? SCFA impart a list of benefits so long I can’t take time to
      Write them all out.

      What are the symptoms of high SCFA? Probably obese yet low blood sugar people, because SCFA trigger GLP-1 which secretes insulin but are also SCFA are associated with high firmicutes (=obesity)

      @DrRichardHagmeyer  4 года назад +2

      Hi Bee, As you know, Once a person has had a portion of their colon removed, it changes everything. My initial thoughts would be that they would have very limited benefits- the same with probiotics. I have not seen research that shows one way or another.

      @@DrRichardHagmeyer thank you for the swift reply. I was hoping that a supplement would help with inflammation of the small intestines and also systemically... Can't seem to find anything that helps with that. 😔
      But yeah, it's been really tough figuring out my health pre surgery and even moreso post colectomy. There is lactic acid bacteria in small intestine and helps for small intestine problems search vsl 3 and other probiotics , some bacteria can be benefitfull for small intestine also , you still have stool exit so you still have bacteria there also you are fermenting food by digesting it so bacteria still important

      PPA interacts with brain cells via G-protein-coupled SCFA receptors including GPR4129. Since PPA (3 carbons) is the most potent activator of GPR41, and due to the prevalence of Clostridia spp., Bacteriodetes, and Desulfovibrio spp. in ASD microbiome and its association with elevated PPA and gliosis30, we hypothesize that elevated PPA may tamper with neural cell plasticity and differentiation in vitro leading to gliosis, increased inflammatory profile, and disturbed neural connectivity, similar to ASD.

    • @stephenlanham9089
      @stephenlanham9089 3 года назад

      @@DrRichardHagmeyer I'm trying to help a child with ASD and came across PPA the other day and it seems to be very prevalent in people with ASD. Do you think a healthy ketogenic diet would reduce PPA or have you any suggestions on how to reduce it.

    • @DrRichardHagmeyer
      @DrRichardHagmeyer  3 года назад +1

      The concern I have on ketogenic diet would be the impact it would have on the microbiome. Lowering PPA might not be expected or hoped for result on keto. PPA is only one SCFA. This child needs testing before implementing such a restrictive diet. I would Also be concerned about prior nutrition and mineral status. Kids with Autism have many considerations. The study I referenced shows neuro glial inflammation with elevated PPA- but that does not mean this is what is happening with your client- Test! Test! Test! Without testing you are playing the what if game and only treating symptoms. You will want to focus on the dysfunctional physiology.
