I personally think that the problem with snatch game is that the queens cast are way younger on average than they used to be. With that comes newer references and celebrities being impersonated that Ru literally doesn't know shit about and is also refusing to indulge
In theory I could get that, but usually the issue is because they just aren’t funny. There have been plenty of characters that were unfamiliar to me, the viewer, but I found successful because they were actually funny.
Dawn's opinions feel so fresh and i couldn't agree more, ESPECIALLY the snatch game one! It just feels like a snatch game drag challenge doesn't test most of the queens of their talent since its very specific to a queen's career choice
I think allí challenges do that, a comedy queen doesn't need to know how to sew, she can buy her dresses all the time and just be funny. A looks queen doesn't need to know how to dance and perform. A dancer queen doesn't need to be funny. Ideally the winner of drag race should be someone who does most things well enough, nor someone that only follows her own career and does nothing else
Seeing you make it as far as you had. You should seriously be proud of what you accomplished on that season, and there were challenges where I seriously think you deserved a win.
I will never forgive ru for eliminating you before the makeover challenge. It was all I was looking forward to because I just KNEW you would have turned it out in an iconic crystal methyd level kinda way.

Between auditioning with 3 celebrities and the understanding that Snatch Game happens every year and gets so analyzed, queens come with their jokes and gags prepped, it's a lot less spontaneous. On the other hand, the producers know who the queens have prepared, who does impressions regularly, and who feels confident. It's easy for them to write questions for and lob softballs at the queens who are stronger in that field and to set others up for failure.
Kudos to her editor, I really think the whole reason Trixie and Katya blew up was the editing of uuunhhh and Trixie even took a few of those editors to her channel. Dawn has the formula down- they know their herstory for sure
I think you're right about the whole impersonations bit as far as how few queens do impersonations, but I would argue that the core of Snatch Game is less focused on impersonation and more on the improv and ability to act on selling a character. Snatch Game rewards absurdity, wit,. comedy, and being a larger caricature than the character you're impersonating. True impersonation is about selling realness on a character, like how Chad Michaels does Cher (literally got surgery to look more like her) and Derrick Barry does Britney.
Tbh when i started a drag watching journey, i first watched season 16 and dawn was the very first queen that caught my eye i just loved her drag, up until today i still love and appreciate dawn so love ya!❤️🎀

I think the snatch game converstation is so interesting - the winners of season 1-10 basically all either won or were high in snatch game. And now the last winner of a regular US season to be high in snatch game was Aquaria. (correct me if I'm wrong here - maybe Symone was high). The point is - it is not only less important in the culture of drag, it is less important on the show than in the past.
This video made me realize that there is a positive correlation between how well Dawn did in a challenge and how enjoyable and creative the challenge was
I understand the sentiment about the Snatch game but I think there's some problems here. Contestants of RPDR are a self-selected group of people. Producers don't truly go out and find people, they select from a pool of those that applied. Snatch game is one of those iconic challenges that is highly anticipated and is known will happen every season. It's something that could easily be prepared for especially since we now have many years of examples to look back on and see how it's done....or not done. With how important Snatch game is, it's a good investment to prepare heavily for especially given how memorable it is for us viewers of the show. Times certainly have changed but I don't think that means we should completely axe a challenge so crucial to the history and especially given how popular it is amongst viewers.

Also, for snatch game: with improv comedy, if you laugh along with it, people will be more confident and make stronger choices. If the joke or reference is funny but rupaul doesn’t get it and stone faces it then it will be much much harder to keep being funny. Good energy is so important.

I really liked your explanation of why Snatch Game has been at best mid for the past few seasons. It makes a lot of sense! Also, I've heard from a lot of queens who've participated on the show that the goal of Snatch Game is to make RuPaul laugh and some queens these past few seasons may be using younger people to impersonate/different references and also a different style of humor ("Gen Z humor" 🤪) that doesn't make RuPaul laugh but also maybe doesn't translate well on reality tv, or at least how the show is edited anyway.
