I love how all of the flatmates represents a different vampire from pop cuture history. Pyter is Nosferatu, the first film vampire. Vladislav is Bram Stokers Dracula whose name was taken from Vld Dracula aka Vlad the impaler. Viago is an Ann Rice style dandy vampire who is just a hopeless romantic. Deacon is more of a composite of vampires from 2 movies that came out the same year, The Lost Boys, and Near Dark. The worms thing is definitely a Lost Boys reference. Nick actually says in character, "I'm Twilight!" Which is hilarious because that makes Stu his "Bella." A human with no personality who all the vampires instantly love for some reason. 😅
Also, even though Taika and Jemaine wrote a full script, they didn’t give it to any of the actors. So they’re the only ones in any given scene that have an idea of what’s in the script, all the other actors are completely improvising based on a general idea of what they need to achieve in the scene. They did it that way to make it seem more natural like a documentary. I don’t think they do that for the show though. Also the guy who plays Stu is actually just an IT guy Taika and Jemaine knew (and that’s his actual name). He had no other acting experience and didn’t even know his character was going to be such a central part of the movie.
not to be an "um..actually" guy but Taika had already directed BOY and been Oscar Nominated for his short film which were all pretty successful in New Zealand

Now here me out: The reason why they didn't get better with their music after centuries is because... You know how vampires heal instantly from a wound? They supernaturally return to the exeact state they were when they were turned. And so does all their neuro connections, ie their memories. So their mental state and memories never advance beyond that moment when they were turned.
