So he decided to remove Chris and basically combined Mike and Chris into 1 character. He also said that the movie was already tragic enough with so many deaths, adding a fifth death (Chris' death) would be too much tragedy. Kerry not going to the Olympics as a discus thrower because of the American boycott was actually the second time a Von Erich got screwed out of going. Although Kerry wasn't on the team officially, but he was training to make it when the boycott came down. Fritz himself was a champion discus thrower and according to Kevin, Fritz's longest recorded throw would've won a gold medal had he been able to go. The reason he didn't was that he had gotten married, and the AAU refused to pay for his trip to the games.
Fritz did hold the Texas high school state record for the longest discus throw until his son Kerry broke it. When Kerry wrestled in the WWE his finishing move was the "Discus Punch." He would spin into throwing a punch like a discus thrower.

In WCCW as the wrestlers standing in the ring and waiting for their opponent or for the ring announcer to finish their introductions fans could run up to the ring and have the wrestlers sign autographs for them. For laughs sometimes the brothers would take a fan's pen and write a note like "Hi Kev," on the turnbuckle pad for their brother to see when they would have their match. The promotion would reuse the same turnbuckle pads over and over, so those little notes would still be there. Kevin said it would get so hard to see those little "Hi Kev" messages in his brother's handwriting after they passed.

Owen is the younger brother of Bret Hart, and they're part of the Hart family, a famous pro-wrestling family just like the Von Erichs. IIRC, Stu Hart, the patriarch of the Hart family, trained Fritz (Von Erich patriarch) when the latter was pursuing a career in pro-wrestling.

Kevin's kids, Marshall and Ross Adkisson both became pro wrestlers, as Marshall and Ross Von Erich.
Kerry's daughter Lacey Adkisson also wrestled as Lacey Von Erich, though she has since retired from in-ring and is a co-owner of the SWE Fury wrestling promotion.
Marshall and Ross usually appear as a tag team, and have been managed by their dad. There's no pressure on them to please their father, or to become 'World Heavyweight Champion' or to have to live up to a legacy, they do it because they want to, and they do it as brothers.

it was so great to have Chavo Guererro Jr as The Iron Sheik in this and the wrestling choreographer also MJF (from AEW) being one of the executive producers and has a tiny cameo as Lance Von Erich (was not an actual brother or related in anyway just there to replace Mike for the matches) I really enjoyed this movie a lot and knowing the story comin into it was even better, that scene with all the brothers was so sweet and nice and l'm glad you also enjoyed this movie too it was great. As a longtime pro-wrestling fan; to see the story of the Von Erich family played out on the screen was remarkable. Everyone in the cast played their parts really good; especially Zac Efron as Kevin Von Erich and Jeremy Allen White as Kerry Von Erich.
Now, granted, the story took a few liberties with real-life events; like the fact that there was a fifth brother, Chris Von Erich, who also took his own life; and that Kerry has a daughter in Lacey Von Erich, who would also become a wrestler. But despite these liberties, this was a good film. And I’m glad that you reacted to this film.

To anyone who sees this, please let it be known that men can cry and please find outlets to release your feelings. Please don't bottle up, everyone has a limit.

The movie took element of youngest brother Chris, who was omitted because the director believed it was bleak enough as we saw it, and put them into Mike & Kerry. Namely the way Chris tried wrestling, but was already in poor health so his body was destroyed (Mike would end up forced back into wrestling, but behind-the-scenes was struggling with anger & judgment issues found in people with a TBI or in CTE), & that in the real story, it was Chris that Kevin found after his passing. It was a strange move leaving him out, but understandable.
P.S. The wrestler sliding the tray of "powder" early in the movie was the Gino we saw in that early tag team match, and was an interesting & sad foreshadowing. In real life, Gino was involved heavily in both using & selling drugs. in 1986, he was found dead of an overdose. To this day, everyone still speculates about if it was self-induced, if he was murdered, or if in an extreme drug induced paranoia he tried swallowing the evidence.

Kerry went to a lot of trouble to conceal the fact that he was wrestling with a prosthetic foot. He even showered with his boots on at times to hide it. He didn't want anyone outside the family to know, but there were one or two wrestlers outside the family who knew anyway, one of them being Rowdy Roddy Piper. I'm guessing Kerry knew Piper wouldn't blab to anyone, so he trusted him with that secret.

-When I first became a wrestling fan as a kid, World Class was one of the first groups I saw with the weekly show as well as the ESPN Legends of World Class show during the week. So, when this movie was announced, I was really interested in seeing this movie. However, this was the FIRST reason I was interested in this movie.
-It’s funny. When I saw Efron, his physique made me think he was playing Kerry. Meanwhile, Jeremy Allen White’s physique seemed more like Kevin’s.
-Going in, I pretty much knew what was going to happen. So, I found it weird when I saw a mom come in the theater with her two kids. I’m looking at her thinking,”Lady, those kids are gonna be traumatized by the end.l
-You’re right about David. He was the promo of the family. If you want to see some great examples of that, look up his stuff during his feud with “Gorgeous” Jimmy Garvin. David had that confidence about him. Also, this was before promos were scripted. So, everything was pretty much off the cuff, depending on if it was live or a pretape.
-David’s debut in the tag match made up of 3 episodes of VICE’s Dark Side of the Ring with the Von Erichs, Gino Hernandez, and Bruiser Brody.
-My favorite scene probably is Mike playing “Tom Sawyer” by Rush as Kerry’s working out. It was such a perfect scene for me because that was Kerry’s entrance theme also he went by the nickname “The Modern Day Warrior”, which was in the opening line. However, it brings me to the SECOND reason I was interested in this movie and why I said,”FUCK! I AM THERE!” It segued into the feud with the Fabulous Freebirds.
The guy playing Michael Hayes is an indie wrestler named Brady Pierce who did work as the wrestling stand-in for Alexander Ludwig on “Heels” and a brief cameo role on ABC’s Will Trent. He is ALSO someone I know from when I was working as a referee for independent wrestling here in South Carolina. I met him when he was just starting out doing shows at a national guard armory in Orangeburg, SC and got to watch him progress as he developed his in-ring skills. To see him on the big screen was a huge thrill for me.
    - The tag match scene with Kevin looking like he stopped caring was funny because of the story with his tag partner in the match. After Mike’s death, Fritz brought in “Lance Von Erich” as their cousin, which he wasn’t. To say that it didn’t go well is an understatement.
-The less said about the guy who played Ric Flair, the better. The filmmakers did a good job with the casting. This wasn’t.
-Because I already knew the story, I didn’t cry that much. However, when it came to the scene were Kerry is reunited with Mike and David and met Jack Jr, I was bawling my eyes out like you were. For me, it was sad but, at the same time, they were together again.
-A24 did them wrong by not campaigning the movie when it came to the Academy Awards. A lot of people were saying that Efron deserved a nomination for his portrayal of Kevin. However, Holt McCallany deserved consideration for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Fritz Von Erich. He did such a great job in the role.

The REAL Von Eric were INCREDIBLY ATHLETIC and they were HUGE😎🙂 Kevin Von Eric was 6 foot 3 and over 260 pounds in the ring, some say 270. Bam Bam Bigelow said Kerry was the best wrestler in the ring and that combined speed power agility better than anyone🙂😎 Kerry was also would have been in the Olympics if yhe boycott had not happened🥸 Kevin was 6 foot 2 and over 220 pounds, I think Kevin was the most acrobatic in the ring🥸 Kevin was a football player and he ALOT of speed but he had multiple knee injuries and he quit football🥸 David was 6 foot eight and notbas bulky as Kerry. David was the best technician in the ring, he was a great technical wrestler. Mike's was good all around. And the brother that wasn't in the movie was named Chris and he was only 5 foot five, had brittle bones and he shot himself at the age of 21.

Prior to me watching this movie, I was sort of familiar with the story of the Von Erichs, since I’m an avid wrestling fan, but I forgot how tragic and emotional it was. This movie actually made me thankful that I still have my brother with me. We both had thoughts about taking our lives. He had thoughts about it when he was a freshman in high school in 2014-15, his grades weren’t exactly good and he had a relationship that didn’t turn out well. He didn’t do it solely because of how he thought I would handle it. I had thoughts about it in college during the pandemic (I’m a visual learner and learn best in person, but I was stuck learning virtually). And the work load of assignments was too much for me to handle since I was diagnosed with autism at 4 years old. I was so depressed I never told anyone about it, especially my brother, because of how he would feel. So when the movie was over, we both hugged each other really tight, and we both felt so grateful that we’re both still here and that we’ll be there for each other. ❤️

Those of us who follow pro wrestling know this story, but it hits harder when you see it “live”, as it were. The timeline is loose here, but mostly accurate. David’s death, Kerry’s accident, Mikes suicide (Mike was pretty much forced into wrestling), Chris’s suicide (not in movie, literally the “runt of the litter” who never had the physical tools and couldn’t live up to Fritz’s expectations), and Kerry’s suicide. David Von Erich has said this is overblown but every other pro wrestler has said that Fritz was too hard on his boys. And the line that Kevin says about not being a brother anymore was taken directly from one of the many documentaries about the Von Erich’s.
