    WOW! My first foray into German cars was the VW Passat. A 2001 with the 6cyl and 5spd. I leased it new. Gave it back in 2004 and leased a 2005 Cadillac STS. I didn't care for that car. I wound up giving it to my Father and bought another Passat. A 2003, different color, but everything else was the same. I did change the head unit and put an AVIC all in one in and that really transformed the car.
    A few years later I needed a "family" car and wound up with the 2008 Mercedes-Benz E350. Very similar in style as the Wizard has on the lift in his video. That was my first Benz. I did a chrome wheel swap for those stock wheels and man those wheels look awesome and chrome. The Mercedes always felt like a bigger version of the VW. That's a huge compliment to VW. The car was so solid. So comfortable and rode so great. I received so many compliments on how well the car rode. Two great cars!

Truly an amazing car, tuned it to 250hp which is close to 100 more than stock. Timing belts actually do last a lot longer with VW as well. I had a VW van (caddy) with the 1.9di engine and VW says that the timing belt should be changed after 80.000km and here we got 160.000km and the belt is still like new (I will change it though). Fuel pump over a Grand. Add in new tires brakes tune up and you're at a couple grand. Have the ball joints wear out another grand, thats without anything huge like a head gasket , drive shift , transmission, transfer case etc that all cost several thousand.

    Downsizing engines has been very common over here for at least 10-15 years now. They even have 1.0L 3-cylinder engines that put out 120hp! But basically the exhaust they produce is much more harmful to the environment, *and* they also use lots of fuel once you actually request that kind of power (because they're always turbo charged). So I like the "SkyActive" approach of Mazda, keep the bigger 2.0L engines, but optimize them so that they are clean, powerful and efficient.

    • @americansmark
      @americansmark 3 года назад +2

      The little 1.4 Turbo4 in my Trax puts out a relatively impressive 144hp and 153lbft (108hp at the wheels). Its still slower than an amish buggy, but that's what some naturally aspirated 2.4L engines were making not even a decade ago. It'd be fine in something the size of a spark or sonic, but in my AWD crossover, it's an absolute boat anchor.
      I ended up using Trifecta Performance tuning and got it up to 155whp/176lbft with 93 octane and 171whp/204lbft on corn fuel. Combined with the transmission tuning and better exhaust, it's far more lively and drives like a V6.
