  • In this video, we ride Japan's Bullet Train Tokaido Shinkansen in First Class (Green Car) from Tokyo Station to Kyoto. We will be travelling on the fastest bullet train on this line, the Nozomi, which reaches a top speed of 300km/h. The journey time between Tokyo Station and Kyoto on the Nozomi Shinkansen is slightly more than 2 hours.
We will take a tour of Tokyo Station, Japan's busiest railway station, before boarding the Green Car of the Nozomi Shinkansen 25 bound for Hakata. After boarding, we will take a detailed tour of the First Class seat and the train amenities.
What a great experience! Please enjoy!

Shinkansen Green Cars have two sides: one where you can ride with your shoes on, and the other where you can put your feet on with your shoes off (no shoes allowed). The side with the same pattern as the floor is used as shoes. Its footrest can be unfolded. The unfolded surface can be used with shoes off.
The Tokaido Shinkansen is the oldest Shinkansen route that was conceived from the days of steam locomotives, and was premised on a speed of 200km/h. So even now that the cars have been improved, the maximum speed is about 280km, which is a little slower than other Shinkansen lines, but the curves are more fun than other lines. From Japan.

I wouldn't consider the Green Car as first class anymore on the Shinkansen.
It's not a part of all the Shinkansen trains, but I'd consider the trains that have the Gran Class car to be more of an equivalent of what many would consider to be a "First Class" seat.
Nice video by the way. 👍

I was hesitating between buying a standard JR Pass or a Green Pass, as the ~80$ difference is not that big, knowing that I'm travelling alone, but even for a 2-3 hours ride I'll always prefer extra leg room and I LOVE QUIET, your video convinced me to take the Green Pass, so thank you very much :) If I may ask, if the seat D allows you to maybe see mount Fuji, does it mean from Kyoto to Tokyo, you'll have to take an A seat ? And at wich point of the ride can you maybe see it ? I know it's not guaranteed, but I'll take all my chances, since I'm not even sure I'll be lucky in my trip to Kawaguchi ^^'

Thanks a lot for watching! Glad the video helped you 😊 I’m sure you will enjoy the quietness of the Green Car!
EDIT: Please choose seats E or D regardless of direction as train does not turn around - it just reverses direction. I had views of Mount Fuji 40 mins after we departed Tokyo Station (Nozomi train). Assuming you are booked on a Nozomi train, you should be able to see it around 40 mins before you get to Tokyo. Please do keep an eye on Google Maps as it’s a good indicator 😊
Hope you can enjoy a wonderful view! Please let me know how it goes.

Hehe, busiest in trains but not passengers, business not 1st, E not F, the last seat has dibs on the space behind it for luggage so is the better choice (when available).
