I just used the tip of my soldering iron straight into the band. Worked perfectly. Just a quick poke and leaves a perfect small hole

I just held a small screw driver in the cooking gas to heat it, and just made a hole :) These NATO straps are always too short for grown up men :(
freehand! that is another method I use, but only if I have extra straps in case I mess up
