Love them both! No drama, no crying no slamming rackets and no cursing. Pure enjoyment for the audiences and sportsmanship on court. If this is where the next Gen men's tennis going, I can rest with eyes closed in my grave.
In 50 years of playing and teaching and watching tennis this would rate as top 5 matches. The strokes were magnificent beyond belief. The endurance was other worldly. The suspense amazing. These 2 guys will be at the top for many many years. Their demeanor is great.
When we thought Alcaraz was finished playing epic 5 sets matches he delivered another banger ⭐ Now it's final time whoever wins the match becomes the new nr.1 and if Alcaraz does he will be the youngest in history of the men's tennis. So much on the line for both 🔥
Alcaraz is a freak of nature just like Rafa in terms of physicality! We've all been talking about him since last USO. But the way this guy has fought through a period when the next big thing in tennis awaits has made it even more difficult. Rising like a phoenix!
I remember when people were saying that non-wooden rackets would ruin the game, that it would be all about power. There is SOO much control and touch, in the modern game. I tend to think Alcaraz makes things harder on himself than necessary, but he is a LOT of fun to watch. Tiafoe has a similar skill set, in that it's all-court, ALL the time. These two are awesome.
People loved in nostalgia. Modern athletes r faster stronger and can play touch too. And now whole world plays it. The only one who whine about it are those who wanted only rich countries and specific race to be it all
Modern rackets have ruined the game, and it's all about power now. All that you've seen in this match, as in any other match, is athletes who run a lot and hit the ball as hard as they can. A dropshot here and there doesn't mean there's a lot of control or touch. It's not like if Alcaraz or Tiafoe, or any player other than Roger Federer bases (at least part of) his game on ball placement rather than heavy-hitting. And it's not random chance than the average height of players has raised a foot from what was the norm in the 70's and 80's. The offensive slice has disapeared from the game, even on grass, due to the control and power modern rackets bring to the game and allow to answer it with a heavy topspin shot. Flat forehands and backhands have disapeared also. Now it's all a big serve, and if the ball comes back, heavy topspin shots which bounce miles away from any line until one of the players fail. If that plan fails, just keep doing the same, but even harder.
@@rafarequeni822 drop shot here and there 😂 some of the most beautiful drop shots I’ve ever seen were in this match along with the power and running you mentioned. 🤷🏻♂️
@@smrvy You need to watch more tennis. Both of them make dropshots only when they are two steps inside the court and the ball coming at them is not too fast. This boy has it all except massive serve ( earlier nadal lacked that too). Once he get it he gonna be unstoppable. Speed, nuclear groundstrokes, lobs, drop shots, volleys. Next great in making
I saw a serve recently at 135 mph. That's more than enough. But don't forget, he's not the tallest guy, and so it will be difficult to add much more due to physical limitations, leverage, and racket head speed. It may be possible to add a bit with stiffer rackets and string optimisation, but, players tend to stick with a frame they got used to, and arguably what he has right now has served him well.

Don't write off people so soon; especially the ones who have won 21 and 22 slams. Coming to the top is one thing; staying there, completely a different ball game. I’m so impressed by Tiafoe. His level of play was incredible this tournament, and he showed a ton of growth. Even though this will sting, he should be incredibly proud of himself. He lost to the guy playing the best tennis at the moment, but he stood in there and battled back the entire match.
Tiafoe is a terrific fighter alright. But the only sets he won were in tiebreakers due to his ball-bashing serve. As far as overall game he is not a top-10 player.
I believe every time Carlos plays the crowd will remember these matches vividly, because each match has everything why people want to see and love tennis. He gets the best out of his opponents and then he has to up his game to win it. Alcaraz is the most exciting tennis player to watch. He will have to keep evolving his game because everyone will study how to play against him. Go for it on Sunday!
This must have been the best match from Alcaraz that I've seen. Yes, not as spectacular as the previous with Sinner but he had to win it. I have critisized before Carlos' lack of consistence, his too much ups and downs on a match, his lack of patience at some key points... Today I think he played a chess game, seeing that Tiafoe didn't hold the rallies he chose to hit less close to the lines, risking a bit less, making Francis play. Not every oponent is the same and adapting for each game is a tremendous virtue. I hope Carlos will keep on this track.
That's very true. The last few games you see Alcaraz serving slower, making returns rather than outright winners and keeping the ball in play during rallies. Very smart change of tactics and showing clear thinking at a critical point of the match. That's a side of Alcaraz I have never seen before - signs of growth.
Tiafoe played his heart out and was understandably emotional at the end of it. But honestly Alcaraz could have closed it out in 3 sets. The quality in ground strokes was visibly perceptible in today's match. Tiafoe had no answer to Alcaraz's blistering pace, especially the BH to BH exchange. The Sinner match was more equally matched.
I thought that I had seen it all but that rally at 15sec would have to be one of my favourites ever. The men's game has continued to thrive with a new generation coming through thanks to Rafa, Djokovic and Federer. Bravo.
Tiafoe is a pure fighter. he was outplayed for most of the match and still pushed it to five sets. if he improves his first serve he'll be back soon. Congrats to Carlos, the final should be fun
It was a big battle, because when it seemed that Alcaraz was about to win the match in four sets, Tiafoe came back to this putting a big effort while the crowd cheering him and there was an interesting five set in which anyone of both had many chances for winning. At the end, the winner was one of them, as it always happens, but when there are matches like this, tennis wins definitively.
Alcaraz, he may not have Roger Federer as his idol and legendary, but the skill that he has shown in all his games, I I think he will soon inherit the throne of RF. Brilliant player and makes this sport much more exciting 👏🏻🎾👏🏻🎾👏🏻🎾👏🏻
Actually, you can watch an interview in Spanish when he was 12 years old where he was asked which tennis player he admired the most and his answer was... Roger Federer!
Alcaraz really needs to improve on tie break. Everytime is a tie break he loses it and the same thing happened with Janik , hopefully it won't happen with Casper Rudd lol. Want him to win the Us Open Grandslam.
I remember the first time I watched Tiafoe was in Hopman's cup in Australia when he was in mixed team with Serena against Roger and Belinda. That tournament he was even unable to rally with WTA players and the level he has achieved now is just fantastic . Superb improvement. He needs to increase his ranking now by playing many smaller tournaments

@@peterhammer4644 Federer is an average player on clay, while Rafa is an all-time top-5 player on hardcourt. Rafa dominated Fed on clay, beat him big time on his favorite surface (i.e., 2008 Wimbledon) and holds an 8-5 H2H record vs Fed on outdoor hardcourt.
So much for Fed's versatility vs. Rafa's.
@@danbotez1307 I was talking about versatility in playing style. And btw your average clay player would have won several titles at RG without Nadal. Second best on clay is average? 😂. Rogers favourite surface was not grass but indoor fast courts. Nadal would have won ZERO Wimbledons if they hadn't done the dumbest change ever in tennis 20 years ago by trying to bring Wimbledon to play as slow as slow hardcourts.
@@peterhammer4644 Fed's performance is not the 2nd best on clay, On the all-time claycourt performance list Rafa is # 1, while Fed is not even in the top 10, The latter is clear, given that Fed won only 1 FO out of 19 FO entered, and only 5 out of 39 red-clay Masters entered (Of those 39 losses at clay Masters only 14 were to Rafa)..
Indoor is nice but an aside, There are no Slams indoors, while wining many Wimbledons has been Fed's pride. Rafa beating Fed at 2008 Wimbledon got him the tennis throne as #1. A bit later at the 2009 AO Rafa's crushing defeat on Fed on hardcourt made Fed cry like a wimp at the awards ceremony, since he realized that Rafa had de facto ended his prime.

@@markcrisp07 The match against Sinner was like the real final though quality wise...
Well they’ve also had to slow down the courts massively for this to work.
Watch Ons Jabeur to see how a dropshot from behind the baseline against a heavy hit down the line are made - and she couldn't hold a candle to Aga Radwanska.
Mad Respect for Tiafoe. It was all over in the fourth set. He dug deeper into his ownself to find a formidable game that I had never seen him play before. Amazing

So much at stake in the final but I do believe he’ll win it. He’s a level above Ruud when playing like this.
Ruud has been playing excellently this US Open. Not to mention he reached RG final. Ruud is no joke.
Agreed. But Ruud is a level above him in terms of maturity. So not so clear.
@@robert111k Are we even talking about the same Alcaraz? This kid is 19, he showed frustrating literally once in the 5th set...... that's it. The ups and down he went through the last 3 matches. I would argue he is one of the most mature players on tour. Even against Sinner when facing match point, he was calm and collected. The kid doesn't flinch in any situations it seems, so talking about his maturity level is not something I would bring up as an argument......
@@rouajohn, he has no tantrums because he is a well raised boy but he lost two sets to Sinner and two more to Tiafoe that should not have if he were the master of his temper, so to say. So, yes. I still think Ruud is superior to him in terms of maturity and that this sort of advantage is what gives him the only opportunity to win because otherwise, in terms of sheer tennis, Alcaraz is way better than Ruud.
@@robert111k I think you are confusing maturity with the ever-present possibility of a tennis player losing a set to anyone under certain circumstances. You certainly won't see any 19 year-old players who are more mature than Alcaraz, and even in comparison to Casper Ruud I would definitely not place Alcaraz a level below him. It's just not the case and this game is a lot more complex than you think.
At this stage literally the only reason that you would doubt Alcaraz' talent (or Tiafoe's) is if you are so obsessed with Nadal, Djokovic or Federer that seeing anyone else play jaw-dropping, entertaining tennis is seen as a threat. How can you hate this? it's electric.
