Damn, even on 100 degree day you have time to take us along and the patience to explain your process of looking for the short. Thanks! I appreciate it.
For future reference:
APIM = Accessory Protocol Interface Module (SYNC/Infotainment Computer)
PAM = Park Assist Module (Backup sensors/cross traffic alert)
SASM = Steering Angle Sensor Module (Part of the Electric power steering system)
OSCM = Occupant Classification System Module (Part of the SRS that determines the weight of the person sitting in a seat)
HCM = Headlamp Control Module
ACM = Audio Control Module (Radio)
FCIM/FCDIM = Front Control [Display] Interface Module (buttons and/or touchscreen in dash for Radio)
DSP = Digital Signal Processing Module (Part of the Sony sound system, has speaker amplifier in it)
LTM = Liftgate Trunk Module (controls power liftgate)
Thanks !
I forgot to mention at the beginning of the video that the vehicle was an intermittent No Crank. Sometimes it would not crank at all and showed a message on the dash that said "Starting System Fault".
well she has a slightly nutty uncle, just hacking up the wiring :), nice vid.
"I don't know what he was on" LOL ...ERIC he was on some extra strong shit LOL
Haha!
Are you a mobile tech? Do you work or know anyone that does the same thing you do in phoenix az?
@@PlumpyWhale look up fixitangel , hes in your area and is a genius
I never understood why customers won't give you the whole story until after it's fixed. Had this happen to me multiple times.
You are a good teacher. Love the way you explain stuff. Great video.
Appreciate you filming this video in spite of the heatwave that you were dealing with ,thanks a lot for the great information
Thanks for sharing Eric👍
I can imagine how difficult it is to fix a vehicle parked outside on such a hot day, & you're filming it at the same time👍
Great content, Stay Safe❤
Great job Eric....It hard enough diagnosing a normal problem without the customer causing unknown issues....
Thank you for the explaining the whole process. This is another diag channel I’ll look up to for diag process.
Thank you Eric. Good job. Have a blessed and safe week to you and your family. Hope the tropical storm has not been too bad for you.
We’ve been lucky to only have rain. We’ve needed some rain lately anyway. I’m getting tired of having to water my lawn every night.
Eric outstanding video and thank you for taking the time to go over the different systems and the wiring diagram. Did not realize it looks like to me that each comm. module has two terminating resistors. Thank for sharing and hope you and family are well Artie ❤️
Your troubleshooting skills never fails to impress me.
If I suspect a particular module may be responsible for a short to power, rather than looking all over the car for it, I will pull the fuses to that module. It should cut the power to the feed wires also. If you pulled the fuse to the ocm, your comm. network probably would have returned to normal. Then you could replace the fuse and unplug the module to determine if the short is in the wiring harness or the module. It doesn't work all of the time, but can be a real time saver. In this business, if you can save time it,s a plus. Especially when it's a hundred degrees and you're working outside.
Patience and the Mind set is a virtue that few possess, especially when it's 100 outside not to mention in the direct sun but YOU my friend excel in both. I would have past out. Excellent job Eric. Glad to hear your about done with the wife's truck. Stay Safe buddy.

Very good explanation thank you very much. The apim is the accessory protocol interface module. That is also known as the sync. It controls your navigation phone communication and goes through the touch button screen. Love your videos keep it up thank you!
Helps me understand CAN BUS more. Thanks for the video.
Outstanding video. Very interesting and informative. Appreciate your efforts, especially in that grueling heat, and taking us along your logic path in fault detection. Take a bow, man ! The applause is for you ! :)
Awesome job, great video.very well explained.thank you for your big effort
100 degrees and you bring us along. Your great. Subbed and liked!
NOW ,YOU HAVE SEEN EVERYTHING ..Great video.
Dang Bro!!! What a run around before the back story. Gotta love the “ooh ya by the way my uncles, friends, dads, brothers, sons, Boyfriend did this before I brought my car in. Great work Brosuff 🙌🍻🤙
Eric is a master detective in auto electronics 👍 I wish I knew a good electronic tech as good as Eric here in Canada 🇨🇦. Stay safe. People that perform this type of damage need to be tracked so they can’t damage anything else LOL
Vancouver 🏝 🇨🇦
Just when you think you've seen everything. 😄
Great one Erick. 👍
Good job in finding that missing module, what a crazy nightmare.
You are a brilliant mechanic Eric great video
i have a 2013 escape that i just replaced the engine in and after 200 miles the dash went nuts , found codes that all lead to hs can lines, sometimes pcm will communicate if i clear codes communication stops. your video tells me i am on the right track thanks...
Much RESPETO( respect) to you and gratitude for you lesson.
Keep up the good work.

Nice content 👍
I really appreciate your videos! Great diag work.
ERIC, thank you for an awesome video/information on this system and how to tackle it ur the man bratha. cheeeers
Not only was it displaying a tach reading, it was a reasonable reading that matched the engine idle speed. Definitely a good sign.
Awesome find and fix as always. I'm a subscriber for life!
Thank you
was like a detective mystery of wires :) Hope the customer paid for all this time :)
Brother, take it from someone who works outside in Palm Springs, buy the HF pop up 10 x 10 canopy. Another well done video. Your numbers are going to keep going up so keep on, keepin' on.

Nice one. Always pays to look about the car to see for any deliberate man-made nasties. Thanks for vid.
Great video.
Usually its fixing what inept mechanics do.
This time it's fixing what a lunatic did.
Great job Eric.

Yes it is lol
Good information Eric bro
really well done pal. regards.
Absolutely awesome.....
Thanks 👍
l recently discovered your channel, sure enjoy your stuff, thanks
start with connectors and separate system. The thingy you unplugged from the dlc connector might have been a gps tracker from used car lot... great job......
I haven’t finished watching the whole video yet, but would like to make a suggestion. The use of a regular DMM to confirm the shorted line to either the +12 or to Ground can be further enhanced by using a Milliohm meter to determine where on the bus has a lower Ohm reading and thus lead you closer to the shorted line, whether it be internal to a module or on the bus itself.
Lot of auto educational content,Like your video Eric
I am a fan of your videos, your videos has helped me a lot in understanding some new issue which occurs in a vehicle. Now i am stuck on a vehicle 2004 toyota qualis 2.4 gst, the problem is that there is no voltage coming to the a/c compressor, all the fuses are ok the relay is good, the a/c control switch is good i have even changed to a new one but still unable to remove the fault. If u could guide me i will be thankful.
Great love from you super fan in Kenya...044 birth place!
I love these module videos 👍👍👍👍👍
Great diagnosis ERIC hard to focus when it’s that hot plus sweat in the eyes. May I ask since u scanned what modules where communicating and have a wiring diagram could u have pulled fuses to narrow down which or what modules remove the hi voltage. Good or bad approach?
Awesome video,.thanks
I've got a 2018 Escape 1.5L. It has the same T-harness for the diagnostic connector - it's for the dealer-installed remote start system.
Exactly what I was gonna say . That harness is for the aftermarket to work like factory remote start system. . You hit lock 3 times and the car starts . . . O well not no more .
New sub.. Thanks for the info. Htown boy here too🤙
Awesome video!!! Thank you!!!
Nice job 👍🏻
I have a 2013 Escape, 1.6L SE with 140K miles. One day, out of the blue with no warning, it would not start. It was showing multiple fault warnings, including starting system fault. Two different mechanics couldn't isolate the cause. After watching this video, I was able to determine that the issue was a failed safety restraint module.
I disconnected the wiring harness under the passenger seat and everything went back to normal.
I can’t believe some of the cars these shops save for you! Holy crap.
excellent job
Well done mate
Good fix. No doubt there someone else's hand was involved. But I would be the same you, I would of suspected damage on right side of car. Stay cool !!!!!
I was so certain that it had to have something to do with the accident. Good thing I didn’t let myself focus too much on that.
Excelente video, pregunta...porque en cuestas pronunciadas la temperatura sube hasta hot en la Ford Escape 2013 motor 1.6L, tiene su refrigerante, aceite de caja ok, motor ok
great video Eric thanks way to think
Great video
gracias, saludos desde cancun mexico.
great video im having same trouble on my car no canbus communication had a slight hit on left hope you can give me a lead to it.
Well done eric. Sam
EXCELLENT thanks
Nice video.thanks
Wow nice fix
the best teacher
Great content
Hold my beer type of uncle
Outstanding diag bro 👍
I learned alot👍
Eric, great diagnosis and explanation. I am curious too, how do you bill for these kinds of jobs.
9 ways to Monday
I'm curious that with a CAN line verified being shorted to power, in theory it seems like you could use a wiring diagram to find and disconnect the fuses for each module on rhe line to find the one at fault
Am convinced that I have to subscribe and do
Thanks for making these videos. I just watch a different vid of yours about fixing obd pins. I got up this morning ready to tackle it, and in my car (2015 ford fusion hybrid) there is a "smart data link connector" It has an obd port on one side, and on the other side, the car connects to it via a different harness.
When I search for the part number online FG9T-14F642-AB, I ONLY see used parts, nothing new. I've tried taking the unit apart. The plastic housing comes apart, revealing a circuit board inside, but the circuit board doesn't not readily want to come out, and there's no way I'm gonna use any force on it.
I'm not seeing anything on youtube dealing with these 'data link connector' or 'data link modules'. Do you know anything about them? Can they be repaired? Are they all the same from one model to another (will a FG9T-14F642-AB from another 2015 work on my hybrid)?
We get those obd harnesses with the trackers we install at the dealer.
great video
Great video. I got a P0171 code on my 2010 Toyota Corolla LE (122k miles) and i feel a little hesitation when I step on the gas pedal. Can you give me some advice please?
APIM is a audio module, generally speaking it's the sync module for usb and hands free abilities.
