      I live outside Boston. Storrow Dr is notorious for it's 9 or 10ft low bridges. I was coming out of Boston one day and there was a box truck (12ft at least) behind me getting onto Storrow Dr., I stopped my car in the middle of the road blocking they way . I went to the window and told the guy he can't go on Storrow and to back up. State Trooper saw what was going on and I left him to clean it all up.

      A lot of new drivers go to flat bed, to avoid loading docks, which require more skill. I did my share of flat bed, but I am now, too old to throw straps and chains. It is hard work. As a new flatbedder, when I had the chance, I'd practice backing. It's a lot harder than people think. When I spot a rookie having trouble, I do my best to help them out. I pass along tips, and even tell them to watch RUclips video's. Hope you do the same. Pay it forward.

      I've never backed a spread axle, but I've noticed that it is not easy. I did once, back a set of pups. I am not good at that. I seen an owner operator that could choose weather to lift the front axle or rear axle when he was parking. I've seen some great custom trailers, like ag trailers with remote control belly dump and tarp cover. The one I want most, was an air powered set of landing gear. I've seen them new chain ratchets that you can tighten or loosen with a 3/4 inch impact motor. Wish they'd had that stuff years ago. Seen one guy that had an air charged bazooka. He'd fire a heavy rubber ball, with a line, over his loads, then pull over his straps. It was made from PVC tubes. Lots of good idea's out there. Except for battery powered Tesla Trucks. Shat a joke. @@simeunovicm

    I think Johnny Mack missed the fact that truck has 2 baseplates; 1 from Texas, the other from Mexico. That driver is legal (or do it seems) to cross the border and keep on trucking south. A lot of times they pretend not to comprende so they don’t have to mess with you. Of course they have to know some English but if it’s your second language they might not be fluent so rather to avoid some bs from a gringo they just might play dumb. Seen it.

    I've been noticing on a lot of these videos where some drivers are being picked on for parking in messed up places. Then some of ur field reporters send video clips in of these guys to bonehead truckers. What I haven't heard from you or the guys filming is..... What did that truckstop look like when they arrived most likely in the middle of the night. The trucks top was probably packed. And they looked for the best of the worst situation. We all know that parking is still a problem. Sometimes there are no places to park. These guys came into the truck stop in the middle of the night found a crappy spot to wedge there truck into hoping they were out of the way as much as possible. Then the next day after most of the other trucks have left.... somebody takes videos of them parking in a strange place. Sends them into bonehead truckers. They wake up to plenty of parking places. And they are looking goofy the next day. In a truckstop that's now got plenty of spaces. But when that trucker showed up in the middle of the night.. it was packed. The driver probably only had so much time to park SOMEWHERE before he was in violation. So please remember what it's like Sometimes to find parking! If you see truckers parking in messed up places they may not have any other options.
    We've all seen truck stops so full that trucks were having to park at the far end of the fuel island. Now if you see when that driver appears and see them not using available parking. Then yeah then they are most definitely a bonehead lol

    • @MikeBrown-ii3pt
      @MikeBrown-ii3pt 4 месяца назад +1

      The parking situation is nothing new, especially in bad weather. It has gotten much worse since I started 30+ years ago though. It's also one reason that I did most of my driving at night and tried to have my pickup and delivery appointments scheduled for early morning. That way, when it was time for my break, there was plenty of available parking. Even then, I always parked in the corner farthest away from the building to get a little exercise as well as keep the hood ON my tractor.

      I officially retired this past New Years Eve after 30 years OTR. In that time, the only things I didn't pull were tanks and doubles/triples. The easiest ones for me were the escorted "super loads" but, they're a whole different situation. I never had any trouble backing "normal" trailers, spread axle or not, and I credit that mostly to the fact that I came up on a small farm and started backing hay and gravity wagons when I was 8 or 9 years old. Of course, having to pull 2 or 3 of those slowly down a narrow country road probably also had something to do with why I never wanted to pull "wiggle wagons" down the interstate lol!

      It's different in just the slightest bit. All it does is change the pivot point of the trailer. It's not that special or "big" of a change, especially if you back trailers regularly. Currently I handle a spread axle trailer but have backed everything from short to long, box, dry van, and regular flat.

    In Defense of the Flat Bedders, I drove them for a while and they are on another level of difficulty to back up. I have been in yards and set up the exact same way (in the same tire tracks) as a previous trip and everytime the angle of the trailer is going to be different. The split axles change everything when backing. Plus, most of the time Flat bedders are not backing into deliveries, they pull up and are unloaded from the sides.

    I live outside Las Vegas, Nevada, and the company I work for has a few CDL drivers I used to be one we hire people without CDL's train them to do the job where I work and then send them after they get their permit do a testing facility in Vegas every person I've talked to that been to this place has told stories of people that don't speak English. They just get there with their permit and then they test out and go over the road. This is happening in just one major city, so they're everywhere, and after watching bonehead, you see more and more of the foreign drivers and the problems that arise from it the lack of respect for other drivers is one reason why I'm glad I'm not doing it anymore. Any of you drivers still out there dealing with all this my hats off to you, good luck be safe.

    This poor guy dude. Why do people think it’s okay to harass us for being Latino? It could be an international truck. I know someone that has one. And no the DMV doesn’t pass someone if they cannot speak English to a measurable commutative degree. Have you ever been, for example, in Mexico and driven on their roads? A red stop sign will read “alto” and it’s pretty much identical to ours except it’s in español, because duh. I’m so sick of this targeted ignorance.

    So at the end, when that trucker was broke down, and he said no English.
    It’s possible he really does understand English but he’s saying that because he does not want to explain himself I guess .
    It’s a common tactic that a lot of people who have English is or second language like to revert back to .
    You walk up and say something to them or try to ask them a question and they either think they’re in trouble or they don’t want to answer so they go no English.
    It’s been my experience that they understand more than you think they do. It’s also been my experience. If you call them a name, they understand..
