Mine works pretty good strong suction to the floor brush area and can feel good suction in hose and attachments but attachments won't spin even tho it looked to be in right and could spin easy with hand other than that works great
I have this same vacuum cleaner and ended up having the exact same problem! I don't understand how it even worked to begin with if the part was put on backwards. Thanks for making this video! It really helped me fix mine!!!!
Wow, thanks for letting me know! I knew it had to come from the factory like that and I couldn't imagine this was the only one effected. If this video helped get you on the road it was totally worth it! Cheers!
Thanks for posting this terrific video. I was having a tough time putting it back together after replacing the power cord. Your step by step video made it so simple to get the job done. Thanks
Hi, I have cleaned and taken apart what I can and still and this happened out of the blue, I have suction with the hose but not to pick up anything else! I cleaned everything thoroughly recently I put on a new belt. This is Bessel power lifter swivel pet I’m afraid to get in the motor because, just because lol, thank you Carol
Hey Carol! If you have suction at the hose but not at the nozzle, it could only be a couple of things. Either the length of hose that reaches down to the nozzle is clogged, or the new belt was pinched and burned up after install. Take the bottom plate off again and see if the belt is still intact and then double check the hose which leads to your tools to see if there is a clog there. Hope that helps!
I've had my vacuum exactly a year. I've thought it very strange how all of a sudden it's not picking up anymore, it is not clogged. I will have to take it apart this far.
Hi Matt, Since there was dirt in the unit before you received it, it had to have had been put together correctly at the factory. My take on this is that for whatever reason someone before you had disassembled this vacuum and when they put it back together again reversed the piece that you turned around. Someone else messed it up and the owner brought it to you to undo what someone else did. You have a reputation for being the expert. Great video by the way as always, but after watching this, that is my opinion. No way could it have picked up anything the way it was put together before you received it. John in Ohio
Literally what happened to mine just now... i was vacuuming, completely fine as normal, took off hose to vacuum against wall/in cracks and it felt like the vacuum moved and it immediately did this. I didnt slam on it, didnt yank on it nothing.. weird. Hoping i can fix this via your video.
Wild. I have owned a Bissell for a year almost exactly and no issues until this week a super weak suction in the hose brush will spin but not picking up any dirt. I thought the height adjuster was the issue but after playing with it, it works fine. House of Vacuums, would it make any sense to you if the issue was that exhaust valve flipped and it working flawless for a year and then suddenly got little suction in the hose and no pick up from the floor brush? Thanks for all your help
My vacuum is doing the exact same!!! Its been working and then today i tried to use it and it wont suction. It has suction in the hose, the filter is clean, no holes/cracks in the hose, the tank is set on the unit right and no clogs! It just all of a sudden stopped working.
Wow! Did you purchase it recently? I would be curious to know whether it is old stock or a problem that has continued through production this whole time.
How did you come to the conclusion the suction was working in reverse? I'm having trouble with the attachments not spinning checked the little belt and stuff and would spin easy when i did it by hand both the turboeraser and hair eraser worked for short time and just stopped
Thanks for watching and the comment! Honestly, I just followed the suction pathway from the floor to the motor until I found something that was wrong... in this case, the air pathway at the motor was installed upside-down. On your machine, start with the easiest solution first. If your filters are occluded and need washed it could reduce the airflow enough that your air tools wouldn't work. There could also be a small clog. Use the video to follow the air pathway and make sure everything is working properly. Best of luck!
Wow, the longer this video is out the more people I hear about with this issue. It would be interesting to know whether some of them are still leaving the factory with this defect. In any case, I hope this video helps get you back on the road!
It definitely shouldn't be smoking. Did you pinch the belt between the brushroll and that housing? That could give off some bad smells and smoke. Double check and make sure the brushroll is turning freeing. If it isn't, the belt is pinched.
Hmmm, if it isn't clogged and the air pathway isn't reversed from the factory, the only other easy place to check is to make sure the belt isn't stretched an slipping. Any amount of slippage will drastically effect the cleaning on carpet. Hope that helps!
I have this same machine. My issue is the filter inside the top that I can see is filled with debri. I like to know how I can clean that. It allows me to wash the filter but that cup underneath the filter in the inner side of where I empty the debri from vacuuming.
@@HouseOfVacuums Thank you for responding. I use my hand and wire hanger to get up in there to remove it, just wondered if it could be opened so that I could get it better.
Hi Matt, I have had the same issue. Bought mone from Walmart, only had it 4 months and this start happening. Silverado is incorrect that somebody else had it. I just don't think I should pay and have to take completely apart. Smh
So sorry to hear about that! Maybe call Bissell's phone support and see if they will replace it? I've come across enough of these that they MUST know what's going on... whether or not they will recognize it is another matter, unfortunately.
Ok I have a situation. My vacuum is not clogged, and has no suction when put together. The piece you flipped is correct on my vacuum. When I take the canister of dirt off, the port to the motor HAS suction. I have cleaned my filter. I put it back on and the hose has No suction. Suggestions appreciated!!!
Hi Alexa! Remove the hose from your vacuum at the back where it leads into the cup. If you don't feel strong suction from that port there is something wrong with your dust cup assembly or seals. If you do feel strong suction without the hose on the back, then your stretch hose is likely clogged where you can see it or the hose leading to the floor is. Let me known if you have any other questions, thanks!
I bet this was assembled incorrectly at factory. The bottom of that dirt canister looks very clean as does the connection from the hose to the canister. Every vacuum i have worked on has some leakage and the fine dust fills the nooks and crannies. Unfortunately, many consumers think something is working properly because it is new. Credit to the person who brought it in. Poor design by Bissell to not have that cowl indexed so it can only go on one way.
Hoses are clear, filters are clean, The intake for the motor has good suction . No cracks in hoses . Still very little suction. What could be the problem ?
Hi I am having the same problem. I bought it new have used the vacuum for almost a year and then the suction indicator show red all the other ports have suction, from the brush there is no suction to lift the dirt into the hose to blow into canister. Any thoughts? Thank you
Hi Ron! If this just happened, it is likely clogged. Use the video for instructions on how to disassemble the air pathway to check for the culprit. Hope that helps!
It’s an 8 amp motor. I know since I have the bagged version of it. (Model 2019.) Definitely needs an suction valve it sticks to my hand pretty good pretty hard to pull the tools with the suction on too.
I have the 20872. I just bought it as a refurbished unit. The bypass suction relief valve keeps engaging and I lose suction. The repair place I bought it from won't do anything even though I used it less than one day. Is this an expensive repair, or do I just trash the thing? Bissell customer service was no help at all. They had no idea what I was talking about even though I sent them a photo of the valve plug that kept getting sucked in and stopping suction and explaining what was happening. I'm just really disgusted with this whole experience.
Sorry for the delayed response. However, if the bypass valve is tripping then one of three things is occcuring. Either it is clogged, has dirty filters, or it is being run too low on a carpet pile with zero pile.
There is one thing that is clear, it could not have possibly worked in that condition! It either never worked or someone doing a deep clean switched it!
Sorry about that, Mariel! If you don't want to attempt it, you can always take it to you your local vac shop and refer to the video to let them know what is going on. Best of luck!
I’m having the exact same problem with my vacuum, which is the same model in your video. Problem is the screws on the brush cover appear as if they are stripped so I cannot gain access. Any ideas? Thank you in advance.!

Hello , very interesting video My vacuum Bissell power force helix turbo bag less upright 2190 Filters are clean and stop working. the motor sounds good but the roller looks like doesn’t move . I cleaned it , I have no idea what happen bothers me bcoz is almost new.
Have you check all the air pathways to make sure none of them are clogged? If it isn't a clog, make sure that your belt isn't broken as this will also effect pickup.
Unfortunately, that is normal. It is not a well baffled exhaust and is pretty directional. It will tend to blow stuff when working properly. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Yeah, it's weird. It is a hard piece to get to, so I would have thought there would some marks or signs of customer manipulation. However, there wasn't. It was very strange. Who knows?
Hey bud! The suction relief valve isn't actually for safety in terms of 'too much suction' or dangerous to use that suction - it's actually about the health of the motor. They need airflow to cool, & will not tolerate a 100% blocked off airflow for more than 5 seconds or so, before you will get overheating issues, & quickly, serious overheating issues (which is where thermal cut-out then comes in, on many machines).
Thanks for watching and commenting. I think we are are both right here, the valve really serves both purposes... protecting the motor and the customer. It would certainly self-destruct without it, but 4 or 5 seconds of full suction could also hurt someone. So I think we looked at 2 sides of the same coin! Thanks again!
