True story, August 2018 I attended a clinic @ Green Valley Country Club near Philadelphia. Ben was one of the pros teaching at the clinic and during observed play, I hit a beautiful backhand roll from below net level (and not realizing Ben was watching) and Ben ran on the court and yelled “Give me some!” and gave me a big high five. I’ll never forget it! Benny Boy is goat👍
Going to clinic 😂 bro RUclips is free
It's amazing that I learned this shot.
This is one of the best pickleball tutorials I've ever seen
0:00 Introduction Ben Johns
0:50 The Set-up 1) Ball is always out of the air 2) You can attack below the level of the net 3) Placement is important
1:45 Backhand Slices - The more back spin you get, the more top spin you can apply out of the air
2:00 Technique
Thank you!
Thanks for such great content and training Simone. Your terms of endearment are as warm as your genuine smile.
This is such a great shot! When playing in the Hawaii Open Pro-Am 2020 event with my Pro, Adam Stone against Ben Johns, he got me on that shot all the time!!! I just kept telling him he was a "meanie" LOL What a great shot to learn. I will definitely work on this one. Thanks Ben and Simone. :)
When, why and how! Perfectly explained and demonstrated. Now I have something to work on. Thanks Ben and Simone. You guys are the best.
Truly this is like an old school table tennis backhand loop, interesting stuff this pickleball
Ben plays a lot of table tennis while honing his pickleball skills. 😉
This guy really knows his stuff. Perfect coaching!
Just watched Ben yesterday at the Monterey Bay Pro Am and now this shot is a two hander! He’s a great guy!
I believe it is the element of surprise. You may hit a winner, the opponent my hit it bad, or if they do get it back, it's usually smash city.
Thank's Simone and Benny ! 😁
You guys are awesome, enjoy your tips. Would like to take my vacation to Florida to one of your pickleball camps.
What a great shot .
Watch the shot in slow motion. There is definitely a lot of wrist motion, but the motion is not forward, it's down, then up like a hand of a clock. That's how to generate topspin. Great video!
Instruction is clear as far as the mechanics go... there are many variables that a player reacts to.. so it's really about practice practice practice and the big one LUCK.
I like Simone's "Virginia Tech" skort!! Wish I had one! Good video - Thanks!
Great video. Thanks Ben!
Soooo cool. Thx Simone and Ben. Really nice explanation and instruction... As always. Gracias!
makes it look so easy.. thanks guys
Helpful slo-mo at the end!
Awesome technique info for our next drills, thanks Ben and Simone 🤙
Ben Johns my hero!
Thanks Benny!
would have been amazing if even once they showed where the ball lands on the court(without a player). From just this tut it looks like it'd either go long or if a very short attack that can easily be countered
Best male player in the world. Believe me, it’s landing in the court. 😂
This seems to be very related to the name of ping pong shots. often when returning short backspin serves, players will do an over the table back hand flick just like this. Tons of topspin and is pretty hard to guess where it will be placed.
Ben plays a lot of table tennis with his brother Collin. So he transferred the skill to pickleball.
Am still learning this sport after 2 years here on Leander Texas
Great instructions. What type of grip to use for this shot? Thanks
Sweet! Thanks!
Thanks Benny
I think Ben only lets one person in the world get away with calling him Benny Boy.
It looks like he hit the bottom edge of the paddle, is that part of the technique as well?
Favourite!!!!!!
Amazing tutorial! I
Does he change his grip to a eastern backhand just before rolling it?
No time to change grip at the net
@@contourman6692Some pros are able to change their grip in time. Mari Marburg hits her roll with 3 different grips depending on the height of the ball. Very advanced technique. I’ve heard Ben say in an interview that he uses continental grip for 90% of his shots on the court.
“Benny boy” “cute cheeks” hind sight crazy
Lol. If you’re into older, I bet being a pro or even teaching pro has some decent perks…
Did you guys color coordinate?!
hopefully as a lefty, i can hit the same shot to a righty's backhand using my forehand to hit a forehand roll.
Keep after him, Simone, he'll fall for you sooner or later....
Benny... 😆😆
Explains it perfectly then actually hits it and doesn’t do one thing he explained haha
Called a topspin backhand this guy is a tennis player
Simone is a little flirt
Imagine if an older Ben was pinching a younger female, saying beautiful cheeks
