- Happy soon to be New Year everyone!
Toontrack has created an awesome VST with SD3!!! Once again, transforming my Yamaha DTX950k into a better sounding, more dynamic beast! I am loving this software! More to come!
For this video I used my Yamaha DTX950k ekit to trigger the Ayotte Default kit on my 2010 MacBook Pro (SSD and 8GB RAM), with some tom tuning changes and only swapped out the snare and kick:
Snare - 4.5x10" Odery Hard Hoop Aluminum Wood
Kick - 16x20" Pearl Masterworks
Enjoy!!!
Dear jon325: OMGosh! This is Incredibly Awesome! I'm an old drummer (67) and I'm blown away by all the new technology. The sound quality, dynamics, superb drum licks, and a video without a drummer really places this in a unique category. It's actually kind of spooky watching an invisible man playing a drum kit. lol. I only wish it was longer. I believe this is going to set a record for LIKES! Anyone NOT liking this has serious issues. I feel fortunate to be the first person to comment. ~ I'm still playing on a 2004 DTXpress lll. It's pretty cool for a $1 K set (if you can believe that) but it desperately needs some type of software help to enhance the sound. I did add a 12" snare, more cymbals and pads using stereo splitters. Can you tell me how much a program like this would cost me? Thanks bud. God bless you and have a Happy New Year - and please make another video if you wouldn't mind. I can't wait to show this video to our son who's also a drummer.
ogredad55 Hey, thanks for the very kind words! I too am amazed how far electronic drums have evolved. These sounds and dynamics make playing a high-end e-kit very enjoyable and inspiring. At times my brain is fooled into thinking I am in the studio with cans on, playing a finely tuned, perfectly mic’d acoustic kit. This short bit of improv was definitely a teaser of things to come. It’s kinda funny because some people complain about load times when selecting different kits. Just imagine the amount of time it would take to change out kits in the studio... When thought of this way, this saves TONS of time and effort, even if it takes 30 seconds for a full kit to load. This tech definitely makes it super easy to record high end drum tracks right at home. I “crossgraded” from EZdrummer 2, so this was $299, which represents a 25% reduction in price. There will be more vids to come, I promise. :) Happy New Year!!!
Hey Buddy! I've been wondering: Does Superior Drummer have the rimshot capability? Of course, I realize even if it did, it wouldn't work with single-zone drum pads. Thanx and keep up the good work Jon! (Gotta check out some of your other videos)
Thanks my friend - Yes, SD3 definitely has rimshot capability, as well as side stick and position sensing support, etc. With a single zone pad you could configure it so the rimshot articulation triggered only at certain higher velocity levels, so you could kinda make it work for your harder hits, though it's not ideal.
How ya doin' Jon? I much appreciate your kind reply. I'm impressed by your consideration in taking time to explain the SD3's technical aspects in detail. Very interesting! You're one of the rare ones, my friend. Many people simply don't respond to inquiries. Thanx again pal. - Bob
Thats in my opinion the best snare on sd3.odery hardwood sounds sweet.nice demo too👊👌
@@outtayardstudio Oh, yeaaaaaaa! Sweet!
Could you share a preset with this? I can't get mine to sound that good.

What bookstore is that friends
Any similar quality sound of latin percussion ?
Hi Diego - I have the core only sounds which I don't believe contains any latin percussion (other than maybe a cowbell), so I can't speak to that point. Enjoy!
@@jon325 Thank you
Not helpful. How do you get sounds like this from SD3?
Check video description where I mention the kit and pieces used - sound is all coming from Core SD3, that I am triggering from my Yamaha e-kit.
Ideally you use an audio interface connected to your laptop/PC (get rid of latency) and your edrum connected to this audio interface. So you can get any sound out of your edrums.
