@@Freyaaamira you know a vocal performance doesn't have to be flawless everytime right? the vocal choices reflect much more than a goog vocal range or ability. Think of Fiona Apple, Mitski, or Kendrick, who have several songs with "wired" vocals and delivery that still are masterful.
this song is actually inspired by her own life. in the first monologue, she explains why she's been living like this without a home. the song is about her riding through her life and trying not to get into trouble while she's constantly at war in her mind. the ending monologue is about how she's somehow found happiness in this life with her kind of people and that she is free.
i don't really know but she had some problems with her parents so she left them ig. she does say in the beginning that she planned it to turn out this way.
@@terenfrench5258 Growing filthy rich doesn't exclude you from basic human struggles. Mind that she struggled to get a record deal for 7 years prior to Video Games in 2011.
@@lgtg9268 yeah im a lana stan but we have to admit she most likely CHOSE to live there because she wants to be on her own. However she still has the support and money of her parents if she ever doesnt make it as an artist
It's 100% autobiographical. Lana was born into an upper middle class family with an abusive mother. From childhood she struggled with thoughts of death and obsessive thoughts. She's talked about how when she was a child the day she learned that everyone eventually dies was one of the most troubling in her life. She said she would go around thinking "myself and everyone around me will one day be gone - I couldn't get over it." As a result she became a BAD alcoholic at a young age, when she was in high-school she went through rehab and got sent to a boarding school. In college she joined the Atlantic group which is an offshoot of AA. The group has been called a cult - members are required to dress a certain way, and the leader has been accused of sexually exploiting young women. Also important to note for her at this time - the Atlantic also forbids its members to take ANY any anti depressants or anti psychotic medication. Lana wrote a song about her relationship with the leader of her Atlantic called Ultraviolence (which has a video you should check out!) In an interview about it she said it was about someone who would take her apart and dominate /hurt her. After this she left for a summer to go build homes on a reservation in Utah- which is where the desert scenes are filmed. She described this time as the happiest in her life. Before leaving she had been in school majoring in metaphysics (she said she's interested in how humans build bridges to god), and singing in small venues like she shows here. She also said during this time in her life she was very lucky bc she used to just walk around at night and go with different people. She said she never got seriously hurt bc she's able to read people pretty well. She explored these autobiographical themes in her song Carmen off her previous record as well. So yes! Everything in the video is a representation of what she was living at the time.
I had no idea about the boarding school and the cult like group that she was part of. Wow. I've always loved Lana from the beginning, but damn... Reading more about her past and upbringing makes me love her even more.. thanks for sharing!
These comments make my heart proud. We Lana fans are hardcore! And this is why I avoid reaction videos to Lana's work because it should not be judged. This isn't just music, it's a feeling. She curates an emotion. It almost feels unfair to judge and rate it.. which is why I think we're so protective of her because in essence we're protecting our hearts too. She speaks for a lot of us, those who get it, get it
most of lana’s music autobiographical in some way or another. she uses a lot of metaphors and stuff like that but from what i know she writes from her own experiences whether they are about herself or people she’s known. obviously she played around a lot with adding some fictional elements in her earlier music, but it all comes from some form of truth. like she said she dreamed of becoming a poet and i think that definitely shows in her lyrics and just the unique way she tells stories throughout each song.
Ride mv is pure art, I'm getting these lines tattooed: "It takes everything you ever wanted and losing it, to know what true freedom really is" "Been trying hard not to get into trouble but I, I got a war in my mind" "I'm fucking crazy , bug I'm free"
I've lived this way since being abandoned by family at 16 after my older brothers sudden death. I was on my own, moved to LA with a suitcase. I got signed to a modeling agency. I traveled the world and lived in the moment. Sought safety in other people. I'm getting older now and yes, that kind of life is freedom but it also is a lot of loneliness. It's beautiful, immersive and freeing. But, like everything else, there is a downside. It is lonely and you don't have any roots. I can't say it's better, worse or equal to any other path. All I can say is, there is always a downside to whatever path you may choose in life. Be sure you are aware of that.
I’d give the writing 10 cause that’s a given with any Lana song & her story telling. The theme a 9. And the song a 10. This is just one of her best tracks so hard not to
You should definitely react to “Video Games” and “Young and Beautiful” next… and if you can, do an album reaction for Born to Die! 🔥 Then continue on to her Paradise EP era songs and music videos(which this song- “Ride”, is a part of) And then continue on to her Ultraviolence album area (which your last reaction, “Shades of Cool” is a part of) And so on for her other albums…would love to see you react to her music and eras in order so you can really see how her music and different themes/aesthetics evolve over time. I think you’ll be very impressed! 👌💯
Michael Moore said "The purpose of art actually is, in many cases, to make you feel quite uncomfortable" Watching Ride music video for the first time It made me uncomfortable bcs we know The life she is living is not good for her but yet the idea of freedom is not so bad.the She knows this herself as well. We feel sad for her yet we understand her mindset. I LOVEEE THIS MUSIC VIDEO SO MUCH. IT'S TRULY ART.
One of my all time favorite songs and videos. I love watching people experience it for the first time. Usually everyone starts out talking and questioning things… then end up sitting and watching in silence.

To me the imagery is very reminiscent of the film Easy Rider. In that film two guys go on a tour across america on their motorcycles, and at one point one of the guys says something like " Man this is amazing, we made it, we are so free" but the other guy feels the complete opposite because to him this freedom has led to nothing but chaos and crime. It's like how you were saying that some people would be terrified to be that free, but other people crave that. I guess it really depends on your perspective of what freedom is. Anyway, you should watch it and lana is the queen and this song is 10/10
If you like her storytelling and are intrigued by the character she is portraying, you will enjoy Tropico. I say character because I agree with you that it’s an embelished story with bits and pieces of her life. Her newest Blue bannisters album seem a bit more personal.
Been enjoying your Lana Del Rey reactions and your interpretations of her songs and videos, you have to react to Brooklyn Baby, West Coast and Young and Beautiful next!
Definitely suggest you react to “young and beautiful” by Lana Del Rey it’s a song she did for “The Great Gatsby” soundtrack and its a masterpiece on another level!
This song makes me emotional 🥺 I've lived the life she's describing in the song It's not so much about living free as it is about looking for a place where you feel like you're wanted Freedom in excess can feel like a prison Everybody wants to find a place where they feel like they belonh

I don't agree so far with any of the rankings, but this is okay! 😂 Also, start reacting to Justin Timberlake please! If you want, start with Mirrors and Suit and Tie, they are amazing songs!!!
Really enjoyed the intelligence and thoughtfulness of your reactions and analysis. That said...this song IS a 10. I love Lana, but my judgment is independent of that. "Ride" is an American anthem. I'm utterly unlike her, but I totally get her and I too am kind of envious of her. It's not a lifestyle or a mindset you can fake.
Do you mind to do a reaction to Still Life by Bigbang? Just found your channel and I like the way you breakdown the lyrics and talk about the singers voice. Was hoping to see what you think about it.
This song is 100.99 , it's not a song, it's a poem. so c'om, please...8.3??really?? this song is a work of art, like she says, and it's so beautiful there's no words, other than that she say that could explain much more better this sense of loneliness, freedom, and how cold this freedom could you make you feel lost at the same time, but with the freedom you colud find your path and chasing your real inner dreams. that my opinion. but even I'm not agree with your vote, I really like your interpretation, and reaction, so thank you.
I’d give it a 10 because it would be disrespectful to rate a masterpiece any lower
